Had an emergency when our bathroom drain stopped up late in the day... the brackish water stuck in the sink was very unpleasant. Our Home Warranty people said they couldn't make it out until the next day and the thought of going through the night with g-d knows WHAT in my sink gave me the heebie-jeebies! We thought we had an issue with our tankless water heater. Most places charged a fee to come and check (tho it will go towards the total cost). These guys came for free. A different company came first and said $350 for diagnostics, and even then may not be able to fix it. Ultimately recommended we get a whole new heater! (Ours is only 5yrs old). These guys came in, actually opened up the water heater to run diagnostics, and even called Rinnai (the maker) to confirm a few things are ok. Ultimately they charged us for the service but they were way more helpful, cheaper, and went the extra mile to call Rinnai and make sure they did the work right instead of guessing. They get the job done but if you're not careful and don't do your research they'll gouge the price up on the labor. I had a bad leak in the backyard and it was flooding a bit into my garage... My usual guy couldn't come because he got into a bad car accident so I called these guys over for an estimate. When they came they were on their hands and knees digging through mud trying to find the source of the leak. I was convinced by their dedication so I hired on the spot - that was probably my first mistake. Because they charged me $700 to repair the leak and kept tagging more little things on the job and charging pretty high prices for them. I'm not sure if the job was even that difficult for them because they finished within a couple of hours. As a first time homeowner, I paid anyways because I wanted the leak gone right away but when I talked to other friends and compared prices online later on.. I was disappointed to discover they overcharged me on labor. ): From what I'm reading from the reviews, they don't give you an estimate on paper before they start the job - I had to hound them for that. I think it makes it easy for them to just keep adding things on the job before giving you the invoice at the end. Anyways.. the leak is fixed so I'm sure they know what they're doing. Poor customer service. I discussed my issue with them and they said they could help, they had an opening for the same day. I asked them to hold it and see if they could come down in price $25.00 to match another quote. They agreed to hold it and would try and price match, saying they would call right back. 15 minutes passed, I called them and they said they booked the appointment with someone else , couldn't price match and the soonest they could help was in a week. We've used A-1 Apex Plumbing as our "go-to" plumber since we bought our "fixer-upper" house 9 years ago. Over the years we've needed to make several improvements and repairs to both water and gas lines including relocating the washing machine and gas dryer, running a gas line into the great room and installing a gas fireplace stove, repairing a break in the main water line from the street, installing and servicing tankless gas water heaters, and more recently, replacing two broken water pipe valves and a broken water pressure regulator. They've always been responsive, professional, skilled and fair with their prices. Finding a quality, affordable plumbing company you can rely on is not easy and we've had disappointing experiences with other plumbers in the past. Plumbing bills are never fun. But working with A-1 Apex plumbing at least makes it a lot less painful than many plumbers we've worked with previously. They're always my first call. read more

Next, you contacted me via another platform and I have reviewed you on that platform as well, no where else. 1) You admit that I was quoted and charged for travel time to get parts, which never happened. The bathroom job was a straight forward stem valve replacement. Your plumber certainly knew that he already had the parts and didn't need to inflate the price to include going out for them. You seem to think that if you can fool clients into agreeing to your price that price gouging is okay. 2) Do the math. The charge and the time spent equal the hourly rate charged. 3) Of course you were nice. You duped us into overpaying you. I contacted you about this issue before reviewing, but you did not to respond me. That's how caring and professional your business is. In addition, just look at the invoice we were given (after we paid). There's no breakdown of parts and labor. How professional is that? 4) I'm glad that you've mentioned that you also tried to charge us a 3.5% credit card fee on top of your inflated price. Original Review: We trusted Michel and his business A-1 Apex Plumbing and got severely over charged. I connected with Michel through the app NextDoor. Michel lives in my general neighborhood. Long story short, they came out for two separate issues; to replace 2 angle stops in the kitchen (charged us $55.00 ea) and to replace 2 stems (leaky shower faucet) in the the bathroom (charged us $175.00 ea.), for a total of $460.00. When I asked the plumber why the bathroom price was so much higher than the kitchen, he told me it was going to take a long time to fix and that he might have to go out for parts. So, I trusted them, because Michel is a neighbor, and I agreed. Turns out it only took him 20 minutes top to replace the 2 stems in the bathroom, and he already had the parts. I looked them up and valve stems cost under $50.00 ea. So, if the parts ran say, $80.00 (that's a generous assumption), the labor charge was $270.00 for 20 minutes of work, or $540.00 an hr.
