Arrived in Fairfield Glade on Sunday evening with a check engine light on. Called A-1 Auto Repair on Monday morning first thing and Judy was able to get me in first thing Wednesday morning. Arrived at shop at the appointment time. Mechanic checked out the problem and had the vehicle ready to go 2-1/2 hours later. Not only that the owner took time to run me back to the resort and pick me up when the repair was complete. Felt like they knew what they were doing for sure. Highly recommend! Thank goodness for people like James at A1 repair! Our daughter was moving and pulling a Uhaul trailer when her car broke down. We are thousands of miles away and helpless. We found James from a good review on Yelp and what a life saver. He gave us a name of a towing company, rental company and promised to get to it first thing Monday morning since this all happened mid afternoon Friday and he was swamped. But instead he took a look at her car when it came in and didn't make her wait until Monday!! He was able to fix it and get her back on the road that same day! My BMW X3 was running rough. I didn't have the time to mess with it, so since A-1 Auto Repair was very close I decided to give them a try. The shop didn't look polished and pristine, however they were very professional and responsive. Car was ready 2 days later with a simple fix, mechanic was highly informative and honest. I would go to them again for a couple reasons. First, they did a fine job, quickly and reasonably. Second, when I checked other shops in Crossville, they didn't know how to work on BMWs. His team of mechanics have their nose down and in grease while they listen to classic and modern rock that lightly rings through the door to their garage. The office is small and warm, coffee, cozy seats and cable T.V, for as long as you need to be there. My car had been having some issues with vibration and a unpleasant noise coming from the front end. I'm not great with cars, and me being me, just assumed there was an issue with maybe a tie rod or a bearing. I brought it into A-1 Auto and described the issue and dropped it off for the day. They called me back within a couple of hours and said that it just needed new tires. I was a bit skeptical at first, but I agreed to have them order the new tires and they said they would be in tomorrow. The next day they called me around 1PM and told me the car was ready. I paid them and took it home, the vibration and noise was completely gone! I thanked them for being honest and only charging me for the tires, another mechanic might have thrown in the bearings or the tie rod to squeeze me for a bit more cash. For the inspection and replacement of the tires they only charged me $40 for the labor, gave me a honest price on the tires and were very courteous and helpful. I would highly recommend them in the future to anyone in Crossville. read more

It is always difficult when moving or traveling to find an auto repair shop that you can trust and can depend on to not milk you out of as much money as possible and provide anything but stellar service. I had found such a place when we lived in Chesapeake, Virginia and they had set a very high standard for any other family owned, non-dealership facility to measure up to. Well, I lucked out and found such a place. A-1 Auto Repair, based on one visit, is a top-notch facility. I called James (owner) as soon as they opened and asked if he could fit me in to take a look at my brakes. The afternoon prior returning home, my "ABS" light came on. I also asked him if he had an early spot since I was trying to get my wife to an eye doctor appointment same day and we are down to one vehicle. He said he could fit me in and to bring it by. A few minutes later, I was speaking with James in the business office. I was a happy to find a friendly mechanic who listened closely as I described what I thought the issue was. He gave me his opinion and said he would get it right in and call with what they found and what the cost would be. About an hour or so later, James called back to let me know what they had found. I was fully expecting a four-wheel break job, turn rotors and replace the ABS sensor just to start with. His first response was that the breaks looked good and he would change them if I wanted him to but his opinion was that there was plenty of life left in them. That was the good news. What they did find though was that I needed a new wheel bearing and a new ABS sensor. He quoted me a price, I gave approval and he said he would call shortly when they were done. An hour later, James called and said I was all set and that he was able to cut the price on the hub by about $50. I arrived to pick up the truck and James met me and showed me the bad parts. I didn't even have to ask to see them which I appreciated. I've experience repair and dealer shops in the past that even when asked to see the bad parts, the response was, "Oh, sorry. We through them away and the trash just ran." I felt very comfortable and was extremely pleased with this shop. In the event that I need future repairs, my first call will be to James at A-1 Auto Repair. read more

While on a 600-mile trip to the area from Maryland, I developed a slow leak in my right front tire. I got the tire checked out at a national chain tire place in Virginia, who found nothing wrong and sent me on my way. Two days later, after losing 10 PSI in the tire, it was very apparent that the tire definitely had a leak! The folks at the Wyndham resort recommended A-1 to me, so I showed up there on a Monday afternoon without even calling, expecting at best to make an appointment for later in the week. Although the shop was really busy, the owner squeezed me into the queue in less than 30 minutes. Within under an hour after arriving, they had located the small piece of metal that had caused the leak, repaired it, and had me on my way again. The price was so reasonable, and the owner and crew were so friendly that I gladly gave them a few dollars more than they asked for. The shop is not fancy, but peace-of -mind when you're more than 600 miles from home is priceless! read more

A-1 went WAY above & beyond to assist us when it was needed most! We just moved from Chicago to Crossville at the end of December. Our VW Jetta had an issue with a cylinder coil, we dropped it off at A-1 and they diagnosed the problem right away. Judy called and kept me apraised of the situation as it developed and when I told her I would take a taxi to get the car (as I no other way to get the car) James came and picked me up. The problem was a bad part from our mechanic up North. Judy & James worked diligently with NAPA an the other mechanic to get this work covered by the other mechanic in Round Lake IL who absolutely would NOT stand behind their work that was faulty. James actually went out of HIS way to reimburse us for the wrk HE did when the other shop walked away from their responsibility. I would HIGHLY recommend A-1 to ANYONE who needs work done. On the first day of travel moving my 80-year-old parents from North Carolina to Montana, I noticed gear oil on the front of the U-Haul trailer we were pulling while stopped at a rest area just East of Crossville, TN. A quick inspection revealed a drip from the truck's differential. I called eight different shops, including A-1 Auto Repair, and all were booked for the afternoon and the next 1-2 days! However, when I called James and Judy back and explained my plight, Judy said "well, bring it in tomorrow morning right at '8 and we'll see what we can do". The next morning, James took a look at the truck and said that he'd had a cancellation and could get us up and running before noon! (I think he just rearranged his schedule to fit us in, but .. . . . ) Then he proceeded to order the part from NAPA, put the truck up on a hoist, fix the problem and get us on our way a little over an hour later. To say that I'm impressed would be an understatement. Both James and Judy were extremely thoughtful, professional, caring and we made it to Montana without a further problem. I can't recommend A-1 highly enough, not only for the great work they did, but for stepping up and helping us out in a real pinch. Both James and Judy went way out of their way to help us.
