I was driving by and saw the lights on and the door open so I thought I'd make a quick stop. I get halfway through the store when one of the employees looks up from whatever he was doing and says "uh, just so you know, we close soon". I asked when they closed and he said 8:00. It was 8:30 so I didn't know why they still had the doors open. Based on what he said, it sounded like I could look around for a bit until they were done but his facial expression seemed to imply "GTFO". I was about to say that I've been to the Roseville location and that I must have gotten the times mixed up, but before I could finish my sentence he cut me off and said "well THEY close at 10:00, not US". On a comic book hunt in Sacramento, hoping to find some rare issues, I looked up this place on yelp. When I visited I instantly fell in love with it. It's enormous. The selection of comics is absolutely spectacular. The staff was very friendly and helpful in my search for certain issues I've struggled to look for, and they know their stuff. That's absolutely essential to the comic book collector. They also buy back issues that are pretty rare, so it's definitely a great find. I'd definitely drive 2 hours to come visit this spot! read more

So I go into A1 comics with a stack of old comics ,and one of the guys at the counter tells me its going to take him an hour to look through these comics ,so after he looks through the comics ,he offer me a price it seemed a little low so I told him no thanks anyway. He didn't seem too happy . So I was taking my comics home but decided to buy some plastic bags or covers for them and when I brought some up to the register to ask if they would fit ,the same guy rudely said to me that his offer was really generous and that my comics are really not worth that much and it's not worth buying plastic bags for it, just throw them in a box and in the closet, I know my comics were not worth much but the way he said it just sounded like an real ass, anyway never coming back to this place. read more

This comic store is outrageous and horrible! High prices and incredibly rude staff, managers and owner!! We over heard one of the managers gloating about how she was so stoked that she seriously low-balled the price for a customer selling his comic collection and the owners response was "good job, that's how we do it!" Ordered cgc book that was graded but there was a chip in it which is damage. I asked them to do the re-holder and just pay for that. they said that they would open up a claim with the post office but God knows how long that will take. This place is comics nirvana. They have all kinds of things that you just won't find in your typical neighborhood comics shop - lots of fun collectibles, tons of comics and poster, games etc. The place is giant - the building looks like it used to be a bank - and it still has a large vault inside where they keep the "GOOD STUFF" cool! If you are a comics fan and you are cruising through Sac. on 80 - I recommend stopping by - totally worth the short off-road jaunt. read more

I have lived in Sacramento for about 14 years, and after originally shopping around, I am still getting my books here. Great sales! Friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful staff. A1 pulls my books monthly and save them for me to pick up at my convenience, and if ever I have missed a book or overlooked it initially, they have always been able to track one down for me. It's been a few months since my first review and I have to say, things have changed at A-1 on Auburn Blvd, and only for the better! Every Friday night is now packed with at least 16-20 players. Just tonight we had 25! There's still a great mix of players, ranging in skill from beginners on up to seasoned "pros" who know the game in and out. Granted that Sacramento does not offer a wealth of comic shops, but A1 is hands down the best shop in Sac County. Every time I visit a new city I go to the comic shops and A1 is even more impressive then anything I have been to in the Bay Area, Los Angeles, and Seattle. This place is friggin' huge. Just looking at the wall of Silver and Golden Age comics is intimidating and awe-inspiring. Prices are decent. A-1 has a crazy amount of comics, books, and figures. Pretty much everything you could think of for your nerd needs. Staff was friendly and didn't try to push merchandise on you. Awesome store. During DC villains month September 2013 (These were hard to find especially 3D covers) A1 was able to get me all the villains comics that I wanted for the week I was in town. I took home over $65 dollars in comics that week, A1 folks were super friendly and accommodating. I will definitely buy from them again when in town. I don't think I've seen many other comic shops with so much variety and also quite a few back issues. The people who work there are nice, which is big for me since a lot of comic store owners act elitist to anyone to who doesn't fit the typical 'mold'. They give great recommendations and also have extensive collectors toys and board game collections. Only small dislike is most other comic shops in the area wrap their books in protective sheets and these so not have that so you have to get your own, but that's no big deal. read more

I have been a customer since they were on Madison and Manzanita and they have always been professional and friendly... I am into Gundam models and they always have a decent selection at a good price. My daughter is really into comics and they usually have what she wants and are willing to go the extra mile to get whatever she needs, either by ordering it or from their other store. i absolutely love this comic book shop! not only do they carry an enormous collection of current comics, they have a huge back issue collection, trades, wall books, discounted books, large toy/statue collection, pops, games, card collectibles and loads of accessories. i'm forever impressed with their customer attentiveness and ever grateful to their employee, aly, for her constant aid in suggesting comics of our interest, helping us obtain the pops we're searching for and ordering special items that might be sold out. incredibly impressed and beyond thrilled to call this comic book shop my home. read more

I quit going to A1-Comics back in 2005 when they still had their store on Madison Ave, due mostly to the general staff being somewhat unhelpful and at times openly rude. As I was near their location yesterday (on Auburn blvd) I decided to stop by and see the new shop. As a huge Bronze & Silver age comic book collector A1 is really the only place to shop in Sacramento. The general layout of the shop is fairly nice and they have an amazing selection of trades, action figures, statues and assorted comic related merchandise. After entering the store not one of the employees working (between 12:30 - 1PM) even lifted their head to greet me (from what they happened to be doing the time) the entire time I was in the store. I did happen however to overhear them discussing a game of MTG and the expression "GG" actually means "Get Good". Its sad to think my entire purpose of going to their store was to fill a hole in my Neal Adams X-Men collection and yet none of the employees felt that good customer service is important. I guess from now on I'll have to continue to shop somewhere other then A1 for my Bronze & Silver age comic book needs. I hope the owner reads this review and takes it seriously as it cost him several hundreds of dollars yesterday in lost sales. read more

That one star is just for their great selection. They have have a lot of cool stuff, but their customer service.. is just awful, I WILL NOT BE returning here any time. So I recently paid these guys a visit with my boyfriend, while shopping around, we were not greeted by any employees, which is whatever, okay you guys are busy. I made eye contact with an employee or two and smiled, but didn't get a smile in return, haha. We stood at their Pokemon/Yugioh card section for about 10 minutes, we wanted to buy some single cards, but no one was there to offer help. So we went to walk around and see their toys, grabbed a few cool ones and went to go pay. When we were rung up the lady attending us, didn't even greet neither of us, she looked like she just wanted to go home. (It was like 2 in the afternoon on a Saturday) When she asked me if I wanted a receipt, I simply said, "In the bag, please?" to which she scoffed at me and handed my bag. I said thank you, she didn't respond and I just left. SO, as I'm leaving, the people behind me get their turn to be rung up. She greets them loudly and says "Hi! How may I help you gentlemen?" "Do you guys have a rewards card with us?" She couldn't greet us like this? She couldn't offer us a "rewards" card? But it's okay, cause I am definitely not returning to this store. If ya'll want some GOOD customer service, go to Comic Command Center on Truxel. The owner is so nice, though store has only been open for like 6 months, so it's not that big! So I like this comic book store. I really do. Its got a ton of stuff, a nice layout yadda yadda yadda. There was a few things about the store I didn't love. 1. Don't give me that "are you lost?" look when I walk in the door. Yes I happen to be a girl and yes I may dress well, and not wear spiderman tee's, but that doesn't mean you should automatically judge me. NO I'm not here for a gift for my little brother. It's for me. Thank-you-very-much. 2. When someone finally does approach me to help me, I tell them what issue I'm looking for and we proceed to take a full tour of the store, they have NO IDEA where it is...I'm finally the one who spots it. 3. OK, I get it you have alot of issues to scramble through, but I mean come on it came out YESTERDAY, don't you have a new releases section or something? One nice thing was I only brought my credit card and the cashier totally let me use it even though he wasn't supposed to. Thank you random tall dude. This is the best comicbook store I have ever been to in California. You can tell this location used to be a bank and they keep the most valuable items in the vault. They are at least double the size of a regular comic book store and have a ton of back issues, games, figurines, graphic novels, action figures, comics and so much more! They do hold card tournaments here on the weekends. Check out their website for more details. When I first started going there they had a life-size Yoda mannequin and last time I was in they had a life sized Spiderman, both are on display at this location! This is also a good place to pick up classic toys and action figures. They have a huge wall of new comics, and this is where I picked up most of my Preacher and Sandman graphic novels. They also hold some awesome sales so be sure to sign up for their in store mailer. This comic book store is awesome be sure to check it out if you can! They have a vast selection of action figures in this store and some of the classic ones too so if you are a collector or just a comicbook fan I can't recommend this store enough! This is the comicbook mothership you have been waiting for. Love this store! Picked up the complete Alan Moore Future Shocks which is a Sweet UK import.
