My favorite Game store in Sacramento. It contains a large catalog of card, board, strategy and miniature games that will appeal to a casual laymen, a beginner, or the serious die hard enthusiast. There are 2 parts to this large store, the showroom area with all the games, miniatures for your perusing and purchasing pleasure. The staff are all friendly, knowledgeable and helpful in recommending a game you may like, or answering inquiries into availability or ordering a game they may not have in stock. The 2d part is large game room that is stocked with games you can test out, or just come in with your friends, or meet new friends and try them out. They publish a monthly schedule of tournaments, contests, or just open game playing. On this occaision, I came to one of the Semi Annual flea market bazaars, where anyone could sign up, for a small fee , get a space to sell their older games , or maybe crafts. There is No fee to be a shopper st the bazaar, so you can find some good deals on games, miniatures, cards, books, terrain, storage or dice. I scored a Zombicide game that was unpunched at a great price for my son & I to play. All in all, just a great store for any game enthusiast of every age from beginners to the hard core gamer. read more

Listen... I'm new to Sac, from Los Angeles, which is a pretty big hub for all the quirky nerd stuff. Truthfully, I really don't think we have anything down there that compares to the size, selection, and value at Great Escape. This place was awesome! There's just so much to look at! Friendly customer service, great choice selection of games and tools, and if you sign up for their rewards at the register you get $2 off. I'm a new 40k enthusiast and really enjoyed hanging around here. The staff are very friendly and knowledgable. Their prices are reasonable and if you're someone who's interested in painting miniatures and all- definitely give this place a shot. They have everything you need here... you've got plenty of options. It's a pretty big establishment, the only weird thing is that it's hidden tucked away on the backside of the building. I went on a Saturday afternoon and really enjoyed it! I'm looking forward to exploring more of Sac's gaming scene. read more

The partner recently got back into collecting Pokémon cards and had heard about this place from a tennis partner. We showed up and got lost at first as the business is located around the back of a shopping complex, but once we found the business we were right as rain! The staff was super friendly and eager to show us the packs they sell, they have basic packs and ones that come with foils. They have individual cards as well with the more rare ones in a glass case. They sell the sleeves and collector books that one will need as they start building out their collection. Additionally they have plenty of board games, figurines for board games and the paint for them. They host a bunch of events & contests for people to play card games, paint miniatures and more. One of the best tabletop and board gaming stores regionally. They have an excellent selection including rarer crowdfunded special editions of games. Their prices are generally msrp but given the amount of play space they have and how friendly everyone is more than happy to support this FLGS. Staff is very knowledgeable specifically about CCGs and war gaming. Highly recommend if you are looking for something g specific or just want to browse an excellent selection of games, cards and rpg source books. The service provides was bad and I as I stated. It happens a lot. Your computer system was not the issue. It was their lack of listening and paying attention to detail. I can just as easily claim your employee is racist based on the number of times I had this problem with them, but I won't and you should not either. Two things can be true at the same time, they have good feedback from others and still offer bad service to some. I purchased a druid figure and paint and brushes under the guidance of a friendly and knowledgeable service person who approached me after I stood staring motionless and clueless in front of the well-organized figures section for maybe too long. Great Escape Games is the largest gaming room in the Sacramento area with many selections of board games, figurines, paints, dice, landscape / structures, and books. There's many tables in the left area for Magic, Pokémon, Dungeons & Dragons (D&D), Warhammer, etc. For the size of the establishment, Great Escape still feels like a hole in the wall because it's at the back of a shopping area and just when you think you're lost, you've found the shop. The prices are within reason and the mark up is minimal. The staff is open for discussions, have lots of knowledge from their gaming experience, and very chill. We come here to browse new items, replace our paints, buy new figures, and window shop. read more

This is my absolute favorite card store in the area. I come primarily for Magic and this is my go-to spot. I really appreciate Phil and Gabe and how helpful and friendly they always are. Its always a pleasure to stop in and talk not only cards but sports and anime too. This store has an amazing selection of cards, booster packs, bundles, and even singles in binders. I love to come here and build a full deck, I can easily spend hours here with scouring through their bulk boxes, they really know how to make the experience of building a deck FUN! I came here with my girlfriend and as we are both relatively new players, Gabe took the time to chat with us about our play style and how we want our deck to play out. I appreciate them giving us newbies the time of day. I almost never walk out of here empty and never leave unsatisfied/unhappy. If I buy a single, the employees (specifically Phil) take the time to look up the card and make sure it is priced exactly right or explain the pricing to me. I come here every Sunday for their Pokemon TCG league. Their space is the best spot in town just to kick it with friends and play a few games. Their restrooms feel clean (can't say that about every game store) and their whole space's vibe in general feels open and breathable. Staff is nice as well. Updates added per new developments: On Thursday 6/5/2025 at the store I asked to buy MtG Final Fantasy commander decks. They told me to come back "next Friday (6/13/2025), specifically saying "come next week, you can buy them all next Friday." On the next Thursday 6/12/2025 I dropped buy to ask about them and they already sold out. The guy there said he remembers me asking for them last Thursday and me being told "next week, next Friday" but he said "well, it actually came out last week. We're sold out. There's nothing we can do about it." I had been a customer for many years and was saddened by the misinformation. Manager Gary promptly replied to my review here on Yelp saying that they're actually not out of stock, and he's not sure why his staff would say that, and I should email him about it. I emailed Gary. Gary replied that the store is indeed out of stock, however, he runs another GeG store in another city that he can transfer stock from, and will have the items transferred and ready for me. Gary included in his email a list of prices he will honor for each item, including one that he'll charge less than today's market price due to their prior error. I thanked him. I am happy that Gary is serious about fixing things. 6/14/2025: Phil and Anthony from the store emailed me, acknowledging the error and Gary's instructions. 6/17/2025: I went to the store to buy the items. Gabriel at the register was polite as always and was ready for me. Phil was also there and we chatted about cards for a bit. As I left, I glanced at my receipt and saw that Gabriel charged me more for one of the items than Gary's quoted price. I went back in to point it out. Gabriel said he wasn't aware Gary offered me that price on that item, but thanked me for showing him Gary's email and said he'll correct it. He said I'll eventually see on my credit card statement that it's corrected. Gabriel also pointed out that they saved another two items for me just in case I wanted to buy them for a full set. Their policy is to not remove no show players from events, instead of filling the spots. their policy is problematic when dealing with people receiving high demand product without participating in the event. The selection is bare for any type of pokemon product and employees stated that pokemon will likely not be stocked due to limited allocation and people buying before it can be put out. It has been quite some time since I have visited this store. Life happens. But, with that being said, the staff and store continue to be absolutely amazing. Bruno helped us out tonight, along with another gentleman (short brown hair and a bandit mask, 'I am terribly sorry I forgot your name, but you helped me and my girlfriend out a couple of weeks ago with 40k questions'). The staff is incredibly knowledgeable, courteous, and not pushy in any sense of the matter. Every team member made sure to introduce themselves, ask us if we had any specific questions about products in the store, and gave us space to explore on our own time. Great Escapes Games has been around for a longgg time, and this newer location is monstrous in size! Easily one of the best game stores in Sacramento to stop and play whatever game you'd like! The owner Gary is a super nice guy, and all his staff are super friendly and knowledgeable about almost every game or item in the store! Prices are great, and there's a ton of magic cards to look through! I love stopping here with the kids and picking a game off the wall of free board games you can play! They even let you borrow them! I see people playing D&D in private rooms that you can rent as well. Haven't been to many other games stores since the kids always want to go here. read more

They have the largest selection of tabletop games, very knowledgable employees, and many events happening in the store with later hours than most of their competitors. One drawback though: the employees ask if you need help every 5 minutes. I mean no offens as they are friendly and helpful, but when I say I'm browsing, I'm just browsing. What a great and huge place for games. Half the place is a sales shop with board games, cards, miniatures, and handbooks, the other half is dedicated to groups of people playing the games. The staff are super friendly and the shop is fully stocked with all different varieties and assortment. While Great Escape Games doesn't have the biggest comic collection in town (see A-1 for that distinction) it does have a great role-game selection and one of the biggest tournament play schedules - Magic, D&D, Warhammer, Flames of War, Heroclix , WarMachine, World of Warcraft, etc. The store is kinda like the Tardis from Doctor Who, the store is in a corner, so from the outside it looks small, but inside it is three large rooms. In the game room there's several tables, usually with several groups of guys and some gals staging campaigns to dominate the universe. So, if you have a bored 15 year old who needs something to do, or you want to let the bored 15 year old inside of you out - then give Great Escape a try. read more

I'm bran new to it and have been tasked by my friends to be DM and although she knew I was in for it she walked me through the basics, got me set up with what I needed an was very friendly and didn't make me feel like a newb with no judgement. I moved away from Sacramento a couple of years ago, and I hated leaving Great Escape Games behind. Great Escape Games is still the best gaming store I've ever been to! My husband and I stopped in while we were in the area for the Thanksgiving holiday. They had a great Black Friday deal going - buy one item, get one 50% off. Very nice! There was a particular game we'd been eyeing that was available as a "demo" game (meaning we could try it before buying it). Not all gaming stores have demo games on offer; any gaming establishment that does gets immediate bonus points! We ended up purchasing the game we'd been eyeing after playing a few rounds as well as another game for 50% off (and some dice sets because of course). Great Escape Games had expanded since we last shopped there; their amazing selection got even more expansive, and they added more gaming tables for events and open play. I highly recommend this store if you have a hankering to get your nerd on. read more
