My laptop quit charging. I had bent the charger plug and the port area where it goes. I took it in to A-1 and they ordered a new charger first before anything since they said that was the most affordable option they wanted to try first. It worked! I chose to bring my laptop here because my family has had computers repaired here before with no problems. Brought my computer in to get the hinges fixed. They charged $70 for the diagnosis and then with labor and parts I paid a little more than $179 total. I paid it, even though I thought it was bit overpriced, but I don't know much about the computer repair business, and I really needed my laptop fixed for work reasons so I paid it. Their protocol was to see exactly what was needed to be repaired, and then call me to ask my permission to go ahead and purchase those parts which would then be added to my bill. That was fine with me, but my problem is that they FORGOT to call me to ask about the parts (which they didn't find out until I called them to check in about it), which set the repair back about a week because they had to order the parts needed, and then took them about another week and a half to do the actual repair. I can understand a week, but almost three and a half weeks with my laptop is pretty unacceptable. I gave them two stars because their staff was pretty nice; they did catch that my AC/DC jack was broken as well, but I decided on not getting that fixed because it would have costed me another $100-150 to fix, and since it still charged I chose to wait on it. My laptop was returned in good condition, everything that I asked to be fixed/replaced was done so. Other than that, I don't think I would do business with them again, just because I feel I paid too much for the amount of time they had to fix my laptop when it could have been a lot quicker. read more

Took my desktop in because it would not start, after they hooking up a new power supply, it started. They then tried to tell me I had bent pins on my cpu socket and wanted to replace the motherboard and cpu. Told them to put it back together and picked it up. I installed a new power supply and the computer fired right up and is working great. Judge for yourself if they were trying to rip me off for parts I did not need. Will NOT be using them again. I will be getting my computer needs at Newegg. read more

My laptop was caught in a start up loop and try as we might, we couldn't get it to stop. *sigh* Time for another trip to Best Buy and weeks and weeks of waiting, not to mention the serious $ it was going to cost to get it repaired. Fortunately, I posted about it on Facebook and was told about this amazing little computer repair place, A-1 Computers. I figured I'd give them a try, it couldn't be worse than Best Buy, right? Oh, SO right! The diagnosis fee I was told about upon dropping it off seemed very inexpensive, just $59.95. They'd call me when they figured out what was wrong and let me know if it was going to cost more. Turns out, it did, a grand total of $99.95 to repair, reinstall Windows 10, as well as three different browsers and word processing program to keep me going until I could reinstall Office. All this in just a week, far faster than I'd dared hope for. This is definitely going to be my go-to place for all things computer repair in the future. Oh, and everyone I came into contact with there was friendly and professional. Great job, guys! read more

These folks had my laptop for a simple diagnosis of a graphics card replacement. The nvidia card had stopped working and the ASUS ROG 750 was operating from the motherboard integrated systems. They broke the motherboard and refused to acknowledge it was them that caused the damage. After 3 months I demanded the machine back. What I got back was a paperweight. I took the machine to another shop, that wants to remain anonymous, and the told me that the screws were re-installed in the wrong sequence. Long screws where short screws should have gone and vice versa and screws missing. The graphics card clips where broken by whomever tried to remove it, the ribbon to the monitor was damaged, and there were so many screws missing. The unnamed shop called me into the back to show me all of this. I have used A-1 for over 8 years. I don't know what happened, but I am not using them again. So BEWARE folks. read more

These are the folks you are looking for. Serious, honest, professional and unpretentious. They are in business to repair computers and not sell a lot of excess you likely don't need. I brought them an older, recently failed Toshiba laptop to see if they could help. I was a first-time customer. Discussed the issues about whether to repair or replace. I went with repair and am now typing on a perfectly functioning repaired laptop. The price was totally reasonable. This is just what you want. They are not into trying to up-sell you and they certainly understood that customers aren't made of money and may want to keep an old machine running a little longer. I could not recommend them more. My son, with all good intentions, "cleaned" our laptop with Purell. What we then got was a blank screen and a laptop that wouldn't even boot up or charge. I thought this laptop was unsalvageable with chemical and water damage. Most people would have just thrown it out. But Dave, Wes, Bob, and Sean said they could maybe restore it if they could keep it for a few weeks. At first I thought this was a long time to wait. But then I came to understand their methods. They worked on my laptop over and over again as the days went by, until miraculously it was restored. They did not give up on it, and neither did I. If you give these guys some time, they can keep working on it until it's fixed, unlike someone like Geek Squad or Office Max who will just hand it back to you broken after two days. The total price of the restoration was a flat fee of $129 for the many hours I'm sure they spent. This shop is full of experienced people who think outside the box, and are allowed to do so because they are a small shop. This company is a rare breed in this day and age.
