Sometimes I really am curious and baffled by the audacity of people and the quality of their product and the pricing. Walking in a part of me wanted to say "wow this is old and dinghy like an old house boat" then I snap out of it and realize this place is selling food for human consumption. Cash only... of course, frozen seafood that looks like it's been in these freezers since 2009. The people there seemed very nice and old school but I walked out without buying anything. I went to acme and literally got a huge and beautiful lobster tail for half the price of theirs. My fantasy of getting "better" seafood because it's a mom and pop shop is gone. I think I will stick with the supermarkets. I am not trying to bash anyone either but I call it like I see it and this place probably will be closed in the near future unless they lower their prices or up the quality. Good luck

What a cool little place. I must have passed it hundreds of times on the road to Seaside or to a place to eat on Fisher, and not realized just what type of seafood they had other then craps (in my mind), I kept going. To be honest, the outside didn't impress me and since the building is set back from the road, it's easy to pass it plus you have Gregory's (what's with the attitude when you walk in Gregory's?) and Pisces which up to this point was my favorite place to get seafood in Toms River for takeout. Well, I stopped in and loved the fact that the majority of clams, crabs, and sea scallops were harvested for the most part from local waters and so would be fresh for the day. They also import some fish, fresh oysters, crab legs (monsters they were), and other sea food for the freezer. The day I went, they had snails. I've never eaten them before but after seeing the huge amount of snails, I might go back and try and talk the wife into cooking them for me. (I'll burn the house down, trust me with my cooking abilities). I mentioned the outside. It needs a makeover which is probably why I passed it so much but I'm starting to eat more and more seafood(allergic for 4 decades and it seems to have dropped off) as a way of eating healthy so I walked in. I could always walk out but I found myself talking to the owner (over 30 years now) and a friend that works there and both were knowledgable about their offerings and where they came from and different ways to prepare the seafood. They offered samples to try out and I felt welcome to this local business. I'm sure I talked their ears off and they listened patiently to my ramblings about my lack of understanding about seafood. This is an old school seafood place, take out only. I can imagine that it hasn't changed much in 30 years. While I was there, more locals kept coming in and out and considering the counter space is limited, I can imagine the A1 Seafood Service selling out of product easily on a good day. They close after the 1st of Jan for 3 months but I'll be back before then for the Sea Scallops and might try the crabs (which would be my first time eating crabs that were fresh when I cooked them). Give them a try and tell them Scott the printer repair guy told you about them. Maybe you'll get a sample of crap cakes they make themselves.

Highly recommend Great people work there…read more They serve really good fresh as gets dishes. We go several times a year and is probably our favorite place for a simple meal. Imo just too hard to beat point lobster for their consistency and quality, the best

Happy Valentine's Day !! Came around 12 on Valentine's Day! When we left there was a wait to sit…read more Waitresses were very kind and attentive. There is a to go area, bathroom, and then indoor seating area. They have merchandise behind the register. Started with the tuna nachos and crab rangoon mozzarella sticks. Tuna was good quality and had a good coating of sesame seeds. My perfect bite was tuna, orange sauce, seaweed, tomato, & onion. The chips were perfectly crispy. The crab rangoon was surprisingly good. This appetizer is what made me pick this place. Such a good combination. Didn't need the marinera sauce. Next up soups. Lobster bisque was ok. I guess I was expecting it to be a little more rich. But it was good, it tasted exactly like lobster and I got good chunks in the soup too. Now the shrimp and corn chowder was super flavorful. Favorite dish of the meal. For mains, cold lobster roll and two tails w butter and side salad. Side salad was well dressed and I appreciate the ribbons of Parmesan. The lobster was mostly cooked right. There was one that was a bit chewy. Added salt and butter but felt like something was missing still. I couldn't find a good combo of toppings to go with the lobster. The cold lobster roll was alright. The potato bread added a good sweet flavor that complimented the lobster. Overall a decent meal.

WOW, I'll apologize for failing to take substantial pics…read more The place is small, no seating inside, it's plain, nothing too fancy with a Snapple cooler on the right and a small ice cream cooler on the left. We ordered 2 lobster rolls and a turkey sub. I ordered a Maine lobster - lobster meat and mayo. My daughter got the LBI roll - lobster meat, avocado, tomato and mayo. My wife ordered the west coast turkey - turkey, Swiss, avocado and citrus mayo All sandwiches were loaded w meat. They were fresh and tasty. The amount of meat in the turkey sandwich was ridiculous. Service was quick and friendly. If I have any suggestion, there needs to be a side with the lobster rolls aside from cole slaw. A bag of chips or a side of fries would be nice. Overall we enjoyed the food and I'm a bit concerned that this place is walking distance from my house.

This is probably the 5th or 6th time my husband & I went to Mystic. Initially it was a 5 star…read morereview-- otherwise we wouldn't have gone back. It's pricey for sure, but it was worth the occasional splurge.... Then they changed their menu-- which at first was great. We had liked their subs, but when we saw the change earlier this summer, the guy working the counter said the change was to focus more on lobster creations. That was pretty much their social media tag line. The first time with the new menu it was pretty great & I enjoyed their tacos. My go-to roll was the Deep South. I'm sure you're wondering-- wait, she said it was great so why the 1 star? Well, we went back this afternoon, after not being back since the day after their menu change. So it's been a few weeks. And omg they have gone downhill fast. I ordered a Deep South roll; my husband got the Beach Haven and we figured we were in for the long haul, so we got an order of Costal Tacos to share, along with an order of what were supposed to be the brined yukon gold potatoes. All of these we've ordered before. None of them were the same as when we got them a few weeks ago. The potatoes weren't brined-- or weren't brined to the same level as they were before. When the menu was changed, the potatoes were addictive & really like nothing we've had before. Now? They were a few flaccid potatoes swimming in some oily muck. Before, they were tossed in a seasoning (bay or rosemary herb). Now? The Bay seasoning was clumped to the bottom of the container & there was the aforementioned pool of muck. Yuck. My husband had no complaints about his roll. It looked appetizing. Mine? Which I've had more than a few times-- was overpowering with a mayo that tasted more like Bay seasoning than chipotle. It was NOT what I had before, which was spicy, but not swimming in mayo. You could see and taste the lobster, which came in large chunks-- so good tail & claw meat. Not the shredded garbage that I had today, which was swimming in this bay flavored mayo. And NO CANDIED JALAPENOS!-- which are the maker of this roll. At $20.99 the roll should have been perfect. Not this garbage roll. The final insult-- the Costal Taco. Brown avocado. No Key Lime Jelly. Overwhelming with coarsely chopped red onion-- which I can still taste 6 hours later. Very light on the lobster. Very heavy on the greens, which were wilted. And several pieces of shell. I thought this was my go-to Lobster place. No longer. Changing their menu sounded like a good idea IF they were going to focus on producing the best lobster roll around. Now, with the increased prices what we were served today was just insulting. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY.
