Ahearns was always our tried and true place to get fresh seafood for decades. Sadly, not anymore. it all started with the Manhattan clam chowder. The intense fishy smell as I heated it should have clued me in. One bite and it went into the garbage. The usually fresh, firm and delicious wild caught cleaned shrimp were mushy after cooking and a bit stinky as well. They were "edible" but we couldn't face the leftovers. The snow crab legs were frozen and when cooked, turned out to be thin and with very little meat...$150+ later, Ahearns is a thing of the past for us. read more

Ahearn's was always excellent in the past. I bought scallops there today. The price was written as 22.99 a pound. I was charged 29.99 a pound. Whatever... They didn't smell like the sea when I opened the container. I patted them dry to grill. They had a weird sheen on them. Upon putting them in a cast iron pan on the grill, they expelled a lot of water, did not caramelize and shrank a lot. Seems like they soak them in water to jack up the price. Looks like this fish market has down downhill. I was also over charged for the cod I bought today. Too bad. I didn't buy flounder. It was cod and the display price was 13.99 read more

I was a longtime customer until I got food poisoning 3 different times with 4 purchases. I also ordered 3, 1 3/4 #, three lobster tails and three snowcrab cluster and then the counterman proceeded to throw them in a brown paper bag...disgusting, no wrap. Owners are absentee at most. You people need to hire competent help, the owners show a lack of interest in what they present to their customers. This is a dangerous business to obviously pay no attention to it!! Seriously, before you get someone really sick, sell it and buy a 7-11. Myself and a large portion of my neighborhood will no longer shop at your store!!! When I opened bag to cook the clams, realized I received chowder clams ( very large)! So I paid $49.99 for the wrong clams, that should of cost me $35.00! What else can be said? Fresh local and other fish. The grouper we purchased and cooked straight away was among the very best, sweetest, succulent fish I have ever eaten. Oysters were great -- they shucked the oysters for us and most of the juice was lost, and a whole lotta styrofoam (really, Florida??). Went there today new owners. I ordered two dozen clams, and gave me shells and put the clams in a container have to put them together myself. The old Ahearns put them on a nice aluminum tray and wrap them in cellophane! I ordered two dozen oysters they shoved them in a container on top of one another. The old a Hearns put them on a nice aluminum tray with cellophane! The juice dripped all over my stuffed mushrooms with crab meat, which were turned upside down. Everything was shoved in one bag. Totally saved us money and a headache on Father's Day - thank you Ahearn's for cleaning and deconstructing 7 lobsters in less than 10 minutes for us! We made amazing lobster rolls that were so fresh and a huge hit. The clarified butter always comes in handy too. Will be back as many times as we can this summer. read more

Had to give this place a try because of my fellow Yelpers liked it so much! Well they pointed me in the right direction! I was craving some fresh fish and I didn't want to go into long Beach Blvd and pay to much! This place was amazing! COVID 19 precautions.. you can call ahead and they will put your order in your car, also only 2 customers at a time in seafood market, must wear mask, they are wearing masks. Now onto the seafood.. perfect ! They have local fresh fish and other options. I got some flounder, cod and shrimp. So far everything I cooked tasted fresh. They also sell lemons and garlic. They sell seafood ingredients. It's a small little place but it's perfect! I will be back! This is my go to place from now on! read more

So I was a little skeptical because the surroundings of the outside of the store was extremely unkept. They really need to do some serious outside housekeeping! But because I read the great reviews and the parking lot was packed, I gave it a try. So glad I did! The seafood was of the highest quality. My husband really enjoyed the shrimp and scallops and thinks it may even beat Gregory's in Toms River. That says a lot because that was our go to place but not since they sold! . The organic salmon was mushy ( yes, I know how to cook salmon ) the oysters small, and the young lady behind the counter really should learn that service with a smile goes a long way toward up selling and return patronage.
