We called A-1 Chimney Sweep and scheduled an appointment they were set up to be at our house between 9/11am, the day of I called them at 12pm and asked were are your men, they said that they called in sick. That they will have to reschedule to Dec 11th that was 3 weeks from now, I had to say OK, but I decided to call another company, and they came the next day, THEY WERE GREAT, Lee Services So I called A-1 to tell them to cancel our scheduled date and gave them a piece of my mine, of course it was a vice male. And on December 11 I get a call to say there guy is on his way, I told them I had canceled it with them 3 weeks ago, all they could say was OK. read more

In addition, the online Manager, Mike Hopkins, is VERY rude and accepts no accountability and offers no help to get resolution. Found this company online and they responded to my request quickly. Staff was friendly and scheduled for a time that was convenient for us. They gave me a day and time and said they would confirm a few days before, and requested my info for the appointment. Unfortunately I goofed and forgot to send the address. The morning of the appointment I reached out, having realized what happened and anticipating the need to reschedule. Fortunately, despite my mistake, they were able to fit me in. Frank showed up when they said he would, was friendly and thorough. He took his time to explain the system and didn't try and upsell anything, indicating that based on our anticipated usage we probably didn't need to schedule for a while. We had a stove installed by A1 last winter. We got an Amazing price on a floor model. I will say that we did have a few issues getting it to work properly at first, but they Absolutely bent over backwards to make it right for us. They trouble shot the problem and fixed it without issue. They even offered to upgrade us (even though it was a floor model) in the future if we weren't satisfied down the road. My wood stove let smoke into the room every time the stove's door opened. A1 came and cleaned the flue and told me the flue was too small in diameter. They gave me a quote to replace with a larger one. The estimator was very friendly and professional. We had them do the work a couple years later when we could afford it. The two-man installation team was appropriately and professionally dressed as well as in actions. In less than 3 hours the flue was fully replaced and the paint touched up. I started a fire by 1 pm to burn away the gasses from the newly painted surfaces. It was a warm day, so I could leave windows open to let the smell out. To my glee, the fire was able to be lit easily. And each time I opened the stove door, no smoke came into the room. It's now been three days and we've had a fire each day with absolutely no problems! We are ecstatic at the transformation of my stove. Needless to say I am very pleased and satisfied with A1's service. I heartily recommend them. read more

There are probably not enough kind words or gratitude that I could give this company! We chose A-1 Stoves for a new wood burning stove and complete installation. We knew NOTHING about wood stoves or the install process. Their entire staff was friendly and knowledgeable. From the honest opinion on what kind of stove we needed, to the walk through and the install, they did not disappoint. We have a three story house and the overall install of the chimney was not easy. They made us feel safe and secure in the hands of professionals! They even offered in house financing; this was a life saver for us! We got to have the benefits of the wood stove and use the money that would have gone to purchase propane to pay off the stove and install, in one winter the stove had paid for itself. We have used A-1 Stoves and Chimney for many years for the annual end-of-season cleaning of our wood burning stove. They are prompt, reliable, thorough and clean. They are also very polite and provide us with useful information on using and caring for our wood stove between their annual visits. They are willing to go up on our roof, when needed, no small feat as it is 3-stories up and made of steel. Just had Frank out to service my older Whitfield pellet stove. I had previously purchased a new auger motor for it, and he had that installed in no time. He took out the inner shrouds and cleaned out parts of the stove I didn't even know needed cleaning. He paid a lot of attention to making sure the blower motor was cleaned and functioning properly, and he swept the flue. My stove now runs much quieter than it ever has, and I'm looking forward to firing her up on these fast approaching cold nights. Very poor customer service from the owner Frank. This will get reported to the BBB. This company provided two service calls to reset my tenant's gas stove which shut down in a safety lockout mode. Reset instructions were verbally communicated differently for each visit and in both cases did not reset the stove when attempting this procedure ourself. The owner Frank who provided the 2nd service call was also extremely rude to my tenants who may add their own review of this experience. I contacted A1 to request a written procedure from the last visit to help confirm the steps verbally communicated by Frank. He initially avoided my request by going into technical details of the stove and how A1 provides quality service. After all this side conversation, I was finally able to get Frank to agree on providing my tenants written instructions for the stove reset. A day later an email showed up with a video link to the incorrect procedure. I will use my tenant's reply to this observation --- " Same video I saw over a year ago, before I contacted you, which didn't work. No mention of removing batteries or unplugging any components? A lazy generic attempt at customer service. ". Further details can be found later if you decide to review BBB posts. I give them a two star rating instead of a one star only due to A1 later providing a full refund of the last service call. I do want to mention there are others in the company who I feel were very professional, kind and helpful. I hope this feedback will help A1 become a better company. read more

A1 is awesome! They scheduled a cleaning within 4 days - they were great about either picking up the phone or returning calls quickly. Jim came out and cleaned my wood stove, got up on the roof and cleared the chimney cap and made some adjustments to help it not clog as easily, checked and then re-caulked the pipe seam. He was on time (even a bit early!), super nice, knowledgeable and efficient. Gave me a general review of how my burning pattern was working and some tips. I had a little extra problem with the stove that day and Jim actually stopped by on his way home to help correct it, which I greatly appreciated. So pleased to have found this company. A-1 Stoves and Chimneys came out to one of my properties to do a chimney cleaning. The tenant was indiposed when they got there. The technician left so quickly that by the time she got to the door he was gone and left a card in the door. We called to reschedule and when I got the bill they charged a $20 trip charge. I am very disappointed in the charge considering the owners that hired them are long time clients and this was clearly an issue of miscommunication. I will never use their services again. I don't like companies that nickel and dime long term customers. read more

I needed both a stove/chimney cleaning and an inspection report to provide to our home owners insurance company and he was able to send it the same day via email. I had an issue with my wood stove (my primary source of heat) right before the Thanksgiving weekend. Although they were very busy, they made every effort to come out and help me right away!! Nels, a young employee showed up after business hours. He recognized the problem immediately and found a cost efficient and instantaneous fix while recommending a more permanent solution that also fit my budget. Very competent and friendly!! Very good choice of stoves, fireplaces, etc. The propane fireplace they installed during last winter's house construction was excellently done. However, the fireplace wasn't used until the following fall and the 91 year old relative who lives in the house needed instructions regarding the remote control unit. Hello, I went with A-1 stoves almost four years ago in purchasing a new wood stove insert for my home. The stove has worked great until this last year. I was given a no-interest payment plan for paying off the stove over the course of two and a half years. Every year I have A-1 clean and sweep the chimney and stove. I have been overall impressed with there service until after this last October's cleaning when after the cleaning was done the stove appeared to smoke more than usual. I rarely used the stove has we have had a light winter thus far, but as I went ahead to use it, it smoked up the whole house with the door closed and I ended up having to call the fire department to put it out. The fire department was shocked to see how it was smoking as bad as it was after just been cleaned not event three months ago. It was apparent that something was not operating correctly with the stove itself or the chimney clearly wasn't cleaned thoroughly enough. So I immediately gave a call to Hubert at A-1 stoves to let them know about the event as it may have been that the cleaning that had occurred three months ago may have not been done good enough. The service technician who did come out to clean it three months ago stated that he hadn't cleaned this particular stove before and was also only there for 15 minutes. I didn't happen to pay the bill for three months, which is my fault, but when this event occurred I refused to pay the bill period. I was told that no one would come out to the home unless I paid for the bill, and then if more cleaning was to be done I would then be charged again. I agreed to pay for the past service but refused to ever go with this company again. I have been a plumber for years and know that if my work isn't done right and is at all creating a hazard, I will make sure that the problem is resolved and at no extra charge. Although this company worked with my financial situation in the beginning, I wouldn't recommend them for their service. read more
