The staff was knowledgeable, friendly, and genuinely excited to help. My son loved showing them pictures of his catches and sharing his fishing stories--they made him feel like the coolest fisherman around. They had all the bait and accessories we needed, along with plenty of fishing knowledge and stories of their own. They even shared a few local hotspots and the best times to go (though they might not tell you all their secrets unless you bring a kid along!). On this visit, it was to look for a youth softball mitt that I will be gifting to one of the grand-darlings. The last time I was in a DICK's, it was to buy a White Sox cap and it was a couple years back when they were doing a wee bit better than they are this year! The pricing here does generally seem a bit elevated but that comes with the brick-and mortar business and the privilege of inspecting what you're buying. Who remembers Sportsmart, or Sports Authority, or further back Herman's? They're all gone now, and I think DICK's is it these days for sporting goods. I'm glad they are still at it for us.

Yesterday I stopped in looking for a free-standing pull-up bar, on a whim that they might have it, and lo and behold they had a Power Tower that was exactly what I needed. Mike was very can-do and cleared out a space for me to try it out, adjusting the height so it would work for me (I'm 6'7", hence the need for a pull-up higher than a door frame bar), and gave me plenty of space and no pressure to try it out. I bought it on the spot. I knew it probably wouldn't fit in my car and was only there for groceries at the Valli's supermarket in the same shopping center, and asked if I could could pick it up tomorrow (today) and Mike worked out when he'd have it disassembled by in time for me, and then offered to drop it off at my place at the end of the day for free (given I live relatively close in South Evanston), which was amazing and I took him up on it. This morning I woke up and couldn't get the idea of doing pull-ups at home out of my head, and stopped by at 10:30 am just after they opened, and Mike was not at all surprised to see me, was very ready to disassemble the item and try to load it into my car, and sure enough my car was too small. He then, unbelievably, offered to drive it over to my place on the spot. I was incredulous that he'd give me that kind of time during the business day. Besides this exceptional customer service experience (I hope I don't get Mike in trouble with customers asking for home delivery! ), they also have great selection and I've gotten a used skateboard there for my daughter and water bottles. I love that they make custom orthotics like the ones you get at the orthopedic drs office. But the price is way cheaper especially if you have the road runner VIP membership. Alex was the person that helped me with my orthotic shoe inserts which to be quite honest an easy breezy technique. First you chose the type of insoles you wanted depending on arch and cushion support then Alex slipped the pair into a machine to heat them up for 3 minutes then the insoles were transferred to a machine where you had to step on top of them for a minute with your weight! The results were your new custom impressions on your insoles!!! Stop in and have yours made for any shoe. Your joints will thank you!!

We started with one salesman who needed to leave and then turned over to another, so since we were first online and had to wait because there were 6 people and only 2 salesmen. One salesman spent time with a young girl and sat with her for a while while we were handed boxes. The service was awful, and I noticed two people left because they had no assistance. We have purchased from here numerous times and would have left if I didn't have my cash points. We will no longer shop at this store. Service is now here--try it on and put the shoes you don't want nicely back in the box. Add but pay $$. You really need to bring your customer service back.
