We started with one salesman who needed to leave and then turned over to another, so since we were first online and had to wait because there were 6 people and only 2 salesmen. One salesman spent time with a young girl and sat with her for a while while we were handed boxes. The service was awful, and I noticed two people left because they had no assistance. We have purchased from here numerous times and would have left if I didn't have my cash points. We will no longer shop at this store. Service is now here--try it on and put the shoes you don't want nicely back in the box. Add but pay $$. You really need to bring your customer service back. read more

A great place to find your perfect running shoe or any other type of fitness sport that needs proper athletic shoes. I love that they make custom orthotics like the ones you get at the orthopedic drs office. But the price is way cheaper especially if you have the road runner VIP membership. Alex was the person that helped me with my orthotic shoe inserts which to be quite honest an easy breezy technique. First you chose the type of insoles you wanted depending on arch and cushion support then Alex slipped the pair into a machine to heat them up for 3 minutes then the insoles were transferred to a machine where you had to step on top of them for a minute with your weight! The rep didn't make any effort to hear me out or my issues. The socks did not even match the shoe size - something I didn't need to be checking since I'm supposedly working with an expert. This review is mostly for the fitting experience. I recently joined a gym (Happy New Year lol) and am trying to get into jogging. I have a history of a severe achilles issue and every time I've jogged in the past, even if I'm only doing a half mile at a time, I end up in a lot of pain after a few weeks. I've never had proper running shoes, so I figured I should try some to see if that helps protect my bum heel. I haven't ever had a shoe fitting for anything but pointe shoes, so I didn't know what to expect. Faisal worked with me and was very helpful. After analyzing my weight distribution on their scanner thing and a quick video analysis on the treadmill, he brought out some recommended shoes. I tried several to try to figure out what I liked, and was able to test a few out on the treadmill to see how they felt. They also do custom insoles, but that is overkill for what I need right now since I'm literally only jogging for 5-10 minutes at a time right now. I ended up finding a pair that seemed like a great option, but they didn't have my size/color preference in store. He said they could order them and they'd be delivered in about 7 days. If I joined their membership program then I would get 10% off (I think ) and free shipping along with a 90 day return policy. I believe he said the membership is $19.99. Without the membership, he said the return policy is more strict/the shoes can't have any sign of wear and there's a shipping fee. I decided to check online to see if the shoes I wanted were in stock or on sale anywhere else. They weren't at any other locations or other running stores, so I ended up ordering directly from the manufacturer (Brooks). They shipped super quickly and I ended up having them in hand within 36 hours, and they have a 90 day return policy, so it seems like the better option. But I appreciate the in-store fitting experience at Road Runner and probably would have purchased them if they had had them in-stock. read more

I live over 2.5 hours away and cannot return in-store. The supervisor suggested I purchase again and return the defected pair and then I can receive a refund. On July 22, 2025, my wife and I visited the Road Runners Sports Store in Downers Grove, IL with the intention of making a purchase. The purchase of athletic shoes is more than a simple transaction since comfort, performance, and cost must all be factored into the purchase. In this review, I will provide an account of our recent experience. Following some internet research on Road Runners Sports and the brand name shoes they carry, my wife and I proceeded to the store. We were immediately greeted by Lisa, a staff member who assured us that she would be able to help us as soon as she was finished with her present customer. While waiting, we browsed the products displayed. The store was clean, bright, and was large enough to shop comfortably. When Lisa concluded her experience with the previous customer, she approached us and offered assistance. After explaining our shoe needs, Lisa measured our foot pressure to assist in making accurate purchases. She provided several choices as well as the possible need for compression socks. Her expertise was obvious and appreciated. Additionally, she was friendly and willingly answered our questions. We definitely recommend Road Runners Sports. read more

I went to Road Runner Sports knowing the brand of shoes I wanted, and the size. I was waiting on by Craig and Rita. They had difficulty mastering the computer system for ordering the shoes. There were no shoes in the store in the brand and size I wanted. They offered a confusing combination of various special deals, memberships with automatic renewals, and prices with and without sales tax. I wonder how Illinois feels about a customer not having to pay sales tax on shoes bought in IL and delivered in IL. That is illegal. There was a $ 10 delivery fee, and the shoes could NOT be delivered to the store to eliminate the fee. The shoes arrived at my home as promised and are fine. The experience in buying shoes for under $ 200 seemed more complicated than buying a $ 50,000 car. Try another store which sells running shoes which is easier to deal with. read more

My orthopedist read me the riot act- start wearing the appropriate shoes or enjoy being a cripple. He recommended Road Runner Sports. He told me they were the best. i doubted him but went there anyway. NEVER have I ever had such a wonderful shopping experience. My Sales Person, Demitrice Clay, knew more about shoe than I ever imagined existed. He was 100% knowledgable about which shoes fit my needs. A woman's size 12 is a big shoe. I am tall- I don't need soles so high to make me look even taller. Demitrice scanned my feet and discovered how to ease my foot pain by selecting the perfect shoe with the perfect look I wanted. went there on a Saturday afternoon at 3. there is a waiting line to get onto the wait list. I waited 15 minutes in line and no one came and no one acknowledged that we were standing in the line. the store was busy, but at least acknowledge that I am there. i called the store to find out how long I would have to wait before I got in the wait list. the number does not go direct to the store. they asked me to hold. after5 minutes they came back to me to say no one picked up at the store, they must be busy. I walked out and went to Dicks where I had to wait a little but was helped by a knowledgeable sales person and bought my gym shoes! I get that they are busy, but have a sign or something that lets the customers know that you will have to wait an hour or so to get waited on. where is the customer service! used to love the store, I will not be going back. read more

Why the downgrade in rating? Was charged for a renewal on the VIP membership 2 weeks early. I wasn't notified. Found out when I saw the charge on my credit card statement. You can't cancel your membership online. You have to call the 800 number. Terrible customer service by the VIP corporate 800 line. I was on hold for 20 min then the rep who answered the phone provided incorrect information. I was frustrated because he kept trying to do the hard-sell and I didn't want to hear it. I got upset then he hung up on me. 0 stars for 800 line customer service. The only reason I am giving 3 stars is because Rita, a manager took care of my refund for the early charge and the cancellation of my membership for me. Since my membership was still good for another week, she made sure I was able to use my rewards. Purchased another pair of insoles for my daughter. 5 stars for Rita and the Wilmette location. I will never sign up for their membership ever again! Unfortunately, will probably only come back for the insoles and purchase shoes elsewhere. read more

They invited us for a shoe fitting for my fiancé as she was preparing for the marathon and let me tell you... they know absolutely what they are doing! The technology and people that are working there know their stuff. We had the pleasure of being helped by Autumn. Her knowledge of their wide variety of shoes and running provided the best options for my fiancé. They did such a great job of finding the perfect shoe for her that her feet were not even hurting after the marathon! Best customer service I've ever had, from Kevin at Road Runner in Wilmette. Went in to buy a pair of running shoes for my 12 yr old who's trying cross country for the first time. Admittedly, I don't know anything about running shoes, but I heard they were very knowledgeable here so I was hopeful we'd get a good pair. Kevin immediately approached us and when we told him what we needed he suggested getting the full foot evaluation. He did warn us that the store was closing in half an hour, but he was confident we would walk out with a great pair of shoes. Throughout the process, Kevin was kind, helpful, and crazy smart. At one point, my son turned to me and said "this is really cool, how does he know this much about feet?" It was impressive. He never made us feel rushed, even though we were the last customers in the store. He said don't worry, he was dedicated to us finding the perfect pair. He helped us with custom insoles, socks, and signing up for the membership. A lot of times these days, retail shops are a lackluster experience. If you can even find someone to help you, often times it feels like they don't really care about the customer. This review is based on their VIP program and how the push it at point-of-sale, often for free or a very low fee. You are then auto-enrolled and they charge your credit card annually. Just discovered that they charged me $49.99 for an annual membership in 2023. CRAZY! I didn't sign up to be auto-enrolled and be charged a ridiculous fee. Looked at previous credit card statements, and sure enough, charged me $39.99 last year. Unenrolling was beyond inconvenient. You have to call a toll free number, sit on hold, and then talk to a rep. They removed the 2023 charge, but would not remove the 2022 charge. Read the various yelp reviews for Road Runner . . . this VIP scam is a common theme. Save yourself some time and headache and shop elsewhere. read more

This company has awful customer service and I would recommend shopping elsewhere. If you want a small discount they will charge you a membership fee of $70/yr or they have one at $50. A lot of money. Not worth it at all. They will automatically renew it each year. If you have rewards, you will lose them if you don't renew. If you order online they will charge return shipping. And all is good unless you question them or complain in which case they will stand firm and do absolutely nothing for you. Nada. Honestly, go to a running store that actually values you. I went to Road Runner to purchase shoes and was asked if I wanted to have a VIP account. I said "no" and that I'd like to give the points from my purchase to my son, who did have an account. They said fine, all was well. A year passed. Then my son cancelled his VIP account because the store we shopped at closed and there was no store close to us. When he cancelled, they charged his membership to my credit card. I fought with them for 2 days about the charge and was told several times that I was wrong. Finally, after 2 days and speaking to 5 different people, I found an honest girl who said "yes indeed they charged my card for my son's account". Such a bad deal, I didn't even know why they had my credit card information on his account. Anyway, I'd steer clear. read more

During today's visit, I learned that my left foot is almost flat but my right foot has a high arch; which explains why running is so painful. Kyle measured my feet for custom insoles and the best fitting running shoe for me. Then their waiting - and waiting... texting notice to let you know how much longer you have to continue waiting is ignored so you have. I idea where you are in line.
