I purchased this can of Spam on Friday (7/10). When I opened it, I immediately noticed that the product had gone bad. The color was much darker than normal. I buy Spam regularly, so I know what it is supposed to look like--it should be a light pink color, not dark. I brought it back to AR Supermarket, not just because I wanted a refund, but because I wanted to let the store know there might be a problem with this batch. They should check the other cans, and if they have the same issue, they should remove them from the shelves to protect customers. Unfortunately, the manager--an older Korean gentleman with glasses whose name I don't know--had a very poor attitude. He insisted that the dark color was normal. I showed him the Spam and pointed out that the top half was dark while the bottom half was pink. I asked him, "If this is normal, why are there two different colors in the same can?" After seeing that, he had nothing more to say. As a regular AR customer, this is the second time I have experienced spoiled food from this store. While purchasing two items in the store, I paid $5.00 for a total of $3.76. However, the cashier provided me with $1.20 in change instead of the correct amount of $1.24. When I inquired about the discrepancy, the cashier explained that they do not have pennies unless I provide one cent, after which they can return me with one dollar and a quarter. This policy seems unreasonable, as I do not have a penny and am required to give one to receive the correct change. This market is one of the places I visit when I need I want some marinated meats. They have a large variety of meats including bulgogi, and short rib. I like it that they pack it when you order it. They are the only market in the OC that sells marinated squid and pork belly. They are a typical Asian market, not spotless clean like HMart. They have lots of vegetables and fruits. They sell a wide variety of noodles. I've never left empty handed. It's a good market where I can get what I want. read more

The cashier stood there playing with her gloves and explaining why the customer should bag their own groceries instead of her. She stood there waiting for me. My favorite market down this street! It's the absolute best for veggies, marinaded meats, and side dishes. The parking can sometimes be tricky but it's definitely worth it. They have a little food court where you can sit and enjoy some yummy food! Probably the only thing I don't recommend is buying packaged noodles here, as they never seem to be on sale. read more

We are very happy that they fixed the AC and now it is always in full blast. The meat and produces stay fresh all day. The freezers are also better now. We always come here for BBQ short ribs, kimchi and snacks. Special thanks to all the food sample staffs, they are always nice. The store reorganized the meat and seafood sections to make it more convenient for customers to pick out their items. They put many good snacks and sweets at the checkouts that my kids always get at least 2-3 items there. Check out the phone, the plant shop and clothing stores too. Went to get some supplies for tonight dinner. Still a great and valuable with decent prices place to shop. With friendly cashiers and staff. Their stuffs are fresh & nicely packed. They do have already cooked, fresh, and frozen for meats, seafoods and veggies. Parking is great, there is front and back of the building, and easy to park (small spaces are small). The market is clean and well organized. They also have food stalls section, and other shops at the entrance. Their bathroom is clean and well kept. At this time, they are given out complimentary calendar for shoppers with purchased. Very nice big calendar. read more

Great Korean supermarket! Perfect for buying Korean ingredients that you can't find at other Asian supermarkets in the area. The meat section is perfect for buying your favorite cut and cooking Korean BBQ at home. They have great produce and fresh vegetables to choose from. Compared to American grocery stores, the prices here are a lot cheaper and they always seem to have new items in season. However, certain sections of the store are lacking and could use a better selection. There are also some items that we were looking for like boba pearls and they didn't seem to have them which was disappointing. The place overall is pretty small, but they have a lot of other small shops and a small food court inside as well. You can tell that it's an authentic Asian supermarket because it's not super clean. ^_^ It's located in a large plaza with other shops and a popular coffee shop so there are plenty of parking spots. This is one of my favorite Korean markets in SoCal. They always have such a wide selection of produce at affordable prices. The parking is usually always packed and it's good to go in the morning. Lately, there's been a shortage of carts so it's good to spot people who are returning those. I really like the selection of fruits and there's a great variety. This review is for my favorite marinated short-ribs #2 as shown in these pictures. They used to cost $9.99 and I thought it was expensive! But now it is $13.99! Yikes! I guess I have to marinate my own now. We used to have to get in line to get these meats! I did not see anybody when I was there. These short-ribs are well marinated and very tender. They are ready to grill and eat at home. I don't really purchase anything else here. Parking: it used to be a nightmare finding parkings. Suprisingly when I dropped by this past weekend, it was wide open! Maybe I got lucky. It is in a big shopping plaza so there should be plenty of parkings. My friend lives in Garden Grove and she told me that actually A.R. Supermarket is her favorite for getting Korean food and products. That's interesting because I was often shopping Korean food in H Mart nearby but never noticed this A.R. Supermarket so I went to check it out. It offers a wide variety of products at prices significantly lower than the H Mart's!! Vegetables, fruits, and mushrooms are very fresh, with organic brands too. For example, Harim's frozen ginseng chicken soup was $7.7 (dated 5/2024) on sale while it was priced at $9.9 on Weee even after a discount. The store layout is okay, but the lighting isn't as bright as H Mart's, so it might seem not so modern, however, I don't mind as long as it provides good products with great price. There are a few shops aside in supermarket including shoes shop, Korean cosmetic chain store, women clothing stores and hair accessory shop. Located in the Korea Plaza within Garden Grove, CA, A R Supermarket is a good place to pick up Korean groceries. It is in the heart of K-Town, and has large parking lots similar to other Western grocery stores. The prices seem better than the close-by H-Mart, with many items being on significant sale. In this way, it reminded me of the Galleria Northridge that I used to go to: not too crowded, significant sales, and needing to pay attention so you don't buy something that has either expired or is close to expiring. Another unusual thing is that there were ladies handing out free samples of food throughout the store. One of the things we bought there was marinated raw crab. They only had the spicy variety (Yangnyeom Gejang for $5.99 per pound), not the soy sauce variety (Ganjang Gejang) which I prefer. It was well prepared, with all the outer limbs and guts being removed. My daughter and I tried it when we got home, and it was very good....no roe, but the meat was very sweet, a great balance to the spiciness of the sauce. Just be aware how messy it is to eat. Besides the grocery store inside, there are a variety of shops and eateries inside the building as well. There is also a small food court with seating, where you can grab a Korean meal if so desired. A R Supermarket is located right next to the A R Galleria, indoor mall. The mall has very few occupants, being similar to other indoor malls in LA's K-town. None of these malls have really recovered from Covid, I think. The one good thing is that because this mall is empty, people can use these parking spots in front to shop at the supermarket...thus parking was easy and stress-free on our visit. read more

The customer service and quality of this establishment has gone down over the years. Very old interior and not kept clean. How do they keep up with other competitors? The security guard absolutley abuses his power and is severely rude to customers. Super power tripping and getting into my moms face. The 2 korean males that are "managers" do not know how to handle their staff and do not know how to diffuse the situation. They are extremely rude as well. He was telling my mom to stop yelling, when they were yelling and all up in her face. Thats not how you treat customers. My brother also told the security guard to get out of my mom's face and he told him to f*** off. The managers did nothing to discipline or apologize for the security guards behavior. I normally dont post reviews here, but take your business elsewhere. This place has gone down the shit hole, just like whats happening to ktown Garden Grove in general, just old angry folks without any dreams. A R Supermarket is a Korean market located in the Korean District in Garden Grove. My husband and I stopped by this market last Tuesday since we were in the general area. This market did surprise me. I shop at H Mart regularly and found that this market sold the majority of same items and also at similar prices and some items cheaper than H Mart. The meat section had plenty of thinly sliced meat for your hot pot needs and Korean barbecue needs. There is also a small option of banchan that you can pick up, although I will say that H Mart does have more in terms of variety. This market also has a food court and restrooms by the produce section. There are also some small stores that sell clothing, beauty products, etc by the entrance of the store, towards the produce section. The food court also has a bakery. There are some tables and chairs in the food court. But again as mentioned, the restroom is by the produce section, which is on the opposite side of the food court. I don't live by this area but I would definitely come back here again if in the area and also would visit the food court again. read more

There was a food demonstration in the store (dumplings). The lady was cooking dumplings and placed three kinds on the tray. I asked her what flavors they were. She looked up and responded "here" in an unfriendly manner. I explained that I wanted to know what type of dumplings they were before trying them, but she again replied in an unfriendly tone, saying they were "vegetables, pork, ...." At that point, I gave up and walked away. Manager of AR Market, please provide better training for the food demonstration staff to clearly inform customers about the ingredients. This is important to help prevent allergic reactions. Also, please remind staff to treat customers with kindness and respect, as customers are not "food beggars." read more

This place was recommended to me for shabu / Bo 7 bon style and the guests all raved about it. The dinner was pricey and I know inflation had a lot to do with it. Some of the meats had freezer burn so be careful. I spent over $250 in meats for this dinner bash so I had to make sure everything was on point. I suggest digging deeper into the cooler and inspecting the meats, especially if you're paying these higher prices. Parking lot is spacious but can get busy on weekends. I didn't think their produce was that fresh. I would recommend going a few streets west to Green Farm off Magnolia. read more

The good: This is a Korean super market with a lot of beauty and clothing shops inside as well as a medium sized food court. The food court had coffee that was priced at $2-4! What a steal. Crab prices were around $7-8/pound which was great (it was $28/pound at Redondo Beach Pier at a Korean owned seafood store). The store is well organized and prices were great for dried persimmon. They had a great seafood section that wasn't too smelly. The bad: My mom wanted to buy a jacket at one of the clothing stands but it was $95. We were surprised by the really high prices for a nylon jacket. I was looking for disposable metal buffet chafing dishes and sternos but they didn't have any. The interesting: There seemed to be a separate parking area behind the food court space. read more

I went to AR Korean supermarket and got a racism treatment from the guy that work at the mead department. I ordered 2 bls of marinated beef, 2 bls of pork's and there was another Korean woman interrupting taking to that employee in Korean. He stops me from making the 3rd order and wait after he'd help her. I have talked to the manager of that supermarket about what has happened. He took me back to see the guy. They exchanged words and stories in Korean. That guy even said in English for me to hear it happens all the time. The manager apologized to me and asked me if I need to get that 3rd order? I was kindly rejected and have expressed how other race would view this whole situation. I hope no one would go through this experience and feel less like I did. read more

Arirang has a lot of produce, some not always fresh, in an old but clean enough space. The store is organized with enough room for carts to easily pass each other. Their produce, fish and game prices are cheaper than Ralphs or Vons. One male employee behind the fish counter never wears his mask correctly. I like how there are smaller stores within, like a flea market or swap meet, selling women's clothes, accessories, phone cases, cosmetics and jewelry. This is the fake designer mask epicenter. Despite my very good experience with the grocery store, I'm not having any luck with my online order. I placed an order back on May 17, 2020 and I understood that things were busy. They charged my account right away. Around two weeks later, they said that they would ship that week and update the information. That was about 4 weeks ago. I don't believe that they're trying to cheat people but I also find it difficult to believe than anyone is so incompetent. Shipping is extra expensive at $35.00 but I really wanted my food. I really like this market. It has an expanded selection of korean foods compared to H-Mart nearby and it seems more of a local hotspot vs chain. Their meat selections are great and I would say go here instead of h-mart for your kalbi or other marinated meats. The fruits and snack selections are good too. I have an HMart just down the street and while I can pretty much get anything there, they're not so great with specialty stuff. Just the array of banchan alone (at Arirang) is freaking impressive. Of course I also love the fact that you can get as much or as little as you want. Naturally, I went a little crazy selecting 6 different banchan, as well as a kimchi in a bag. The kimchi tasted so fresh and not overly salty at all. Definitely a plus! I also picked up other grocery items but surprisingly, I like the tofu selection a little better at HMart. Marinated meats section Marinated ribeye: -soft and good price. This type of bulgogi meat is the best I've had anywhere. I don't like bulgogi because most places its really chewy meat. The marinated ribeye here is the business. Soft and tender, marinated with their sweet soy marinade. It doesn't feel overly sweet or too savory. I pan fry it and it comes out really good. Spicy marinated chicken: -love the flavor. Somewhat tender cuts of chicken in their spicy soy bean paste ? That's what the marinade seems like, go chu chang (probably spelled it wrong. I pan fry this with a little oil too. I cut it into smaller pieces and comes out perfect. The supermarket looks ragged inside. When produce is on the fresher side, I get veggies too. They don't clean the carts like H mart and aren't as organized as H mart. Calpico is the cheapest here at $2.99 per one of those long large bottles. read more

On April 8, 2025, while shopping at Arirang Market in Garden Grove, I purchased a product called "patjuk" (red bean porridge). When I opened it the next day to eat, I found that it was spoiled. I returned to the market on April 10 to report the issue, and although I received a refund, this is not the first time I have encountered spoiled food from this market. This place sells the best tasting and quality Korean marinated beef short ribs! Zion market and Hmart does not compare in terms of the taste of their marinade and meat to fat ratio in their marinated short ribs. Everytime I grill up these marinated beef short ribs, people ask me where I get it from because the marinade is the perfect sweet and savory and the beef is juicy due to the fat content. They also sell it at a pretty fair price at $9.99/lb, but if you watch and scavenge like I do, you can sometimes buy it for less when there's a sale. Do come and buy some marinated beef ribs, they freeze and defrost well! In addition, this place has everything Korean food related and more because there are shops inside this market with cosmetics, clothes, bakery, food court, etc.. Arrirang @ Garden Grove Blvd. Is one of my favorite places to shop. It just depends on which day. Their produce is very inexpensive. The freshness is questionable depending upon which day (after shopping here for 10 years, I'm still trying to figure out which is the best day...). Their unique variety of vegetables, ban chan station, kim bap (only in the morning), and the widest variety of regional foods makes it worth a daily adventure.
