The Meat Company is a butcher in Los Alamitos that's next door to Original Fish Company and Polly's Pies. They have high-quality cuts of meats and a small, but nicely curated shop with delicious snacks and pantry staples. I like to come here for their picanha, priced at $19.99 a lb. Usually $20 allows me to walk out the door with two modestly sized steaks that become spectacular when they're finished on my stainless-steel pan at home. I also like their frozen meatballs in their freezer, which adds some really nice savory flavors to my spaghetti and meatballs. They have really high end cuts of meat like wagyu and Japanese A5 meats here; however, that's not really what I come looking for. Their pantry is nicely stocked with quality ingredients. It's hard to not pass up their delicious pork rinds (from 4505 or Southern Recipe) or Mutti marinaras. And if I don't feel like cooking, I can come for lunch in order to walk away with a sandwich that they can make for me. I can honestly say I've never been disappointed. One of our favorite purchases was a prime rib we pre-ordered for Christmas dinner. It was mouthwatering and perfectly seasoned, and it came beautifully wrapped and ready to go. All I had to do was pop it in the oven, which made hosting so much easier. Hot Pastrami on marbled Rye and a Spicy Italian. The Pastrami was very lean amd had a nice kick to it. Definitely the best one I have locally. Generous portion of meat and easily shareable! Sandwiches are $15-17, average price, but portions and quality Definitely a great price! You can add a side for $2, and again, very generous and shareable portion. I added Chipolte Mac Salad. I took only a bite, it was very good, as the sandwich filled me to the brim! We will be BBQing the Asada (Flap) tomorrow for dinner. Excited to try it out! 5 stars all the way for The Meat Company in Los Alamitos! I recently picked up some ribeye steaks from here and they turned out to be some of the best ribeyes I've ever cooked. The quality of the meat was outstanding; perfectly marbled, incredibly tender, and packed with flavor. It's definitely not the cheapest place around, but you absolutely get what you pay for when it comes to quality. I've also tried their tri tip sandwich and highly recommend it. Walked in here on a Wednesday about 1:30. No lines, just a tritip sandwich ready to be eaten. I was greeted happily by their employees. He recommended the tri tip sandwich as their best seller. I'll be honest, 3/5 for it. Lacked a little bit of flavor and was just ok for me. Whopping price of $18 either way tax, I wouldn't order again. I would come back to try their different sandwiches. Was my first time at this establishment, I try tri-tip sandwiches here in SoCal but none compare to the best in the state which is in Bakersfield at a place called the Firestone Grill. However, I have to say that the Meat Co version of the tri-tip sandwich here in my pics is among the best in the area. I was pleasantly surprised by the flavor and sauce added. Service was good, has a deli feel to the place. Please try this sandwich you can taste the quality meat in it, gonna say at least USDA choice beef was used. My review consists of only the tri tip sandwich. I haven't purchased their butcher shop meat. I ordered their tri tip sandwich, with a side of chipotle macaroni salad. The sandwich was on a brioche bun, however, it tasted more like a sourdough French roll. Regardless, it was excellent. It wasn't too chewy to the point where you're left with more bread than meat. The mayo and and red cabbage made the sandwich both flavorful and crunchy. The tri tip was cooked to a medium/medium well and seasoned very well. I really liked the sandwich. It would've been excellent with some pickles. Overall I really liked the sandwich. Some extra points: their rewards system is pretty cool. You get a free sandwich on your birthday with a few days to redeem it. You also got $25 off for ever 500 points. They sell a lot of ready to make items to go with your butcher cut meats like brussel sprouts, carrots, macaroni salad, and a lot more. They sell chips, water bottles, cans of soda to go with your sandwiches. Overall I really like this spot and I'm ready to try the rest of their sandwiches. :) read more

I'm sorry, but The Meat Company just did not live up to reviews I read snd to what I was hoping for. I went with their most popular sandwich The Tri Tip sandwich. A bit of a disappointment. The sandwich is small, the price was too high, and the Tri Tip sandwich was not as tender as I was hoping. As I bit into the sandwich, meat fell out because I couldn't cleanly bite a piece of meat off. Service was good. The guys at the counter were super nice and friendly. The other disappointing thing was they offer drinks, but they did not have regular sodas whether it was can or soda machine. As a butcher shop, it looks like they carry quality meats, but some cuts were $36-over $50 per pound. I'm glad I tried The Meat Company, but I honestly and respectfully do not think I will come back. read more

Lunch time on a Wednesday around 11:30am ... wanted to try the Meat co. Called in an order for two sandwiches. The woman told me 20 mins. I arrived 30+ mins later and strolled in to a store empty of customers. The woman behind the back counter told me she was still working on my order. Another 10 mins goes by and finally my order is ready. While waiting I wandered the store. They have an impressive butcher counter filled with fresh cuts of meat. They also have lots of chips, flavored seeds, cheeses, beef jerky, frozen desserts (cakes and pies, ice cream). They also have packaged veggies ready to cook/grill. Service here in an empty store was surprisingly non-existent. There was no effort whatsoever to acknowledge me other than taking my name for my to go order and then checking out at the end. The guy behind the butcher counter didn't even acknowledge my presence. This is a very small store so everyone sees everyone. I enjoy browsing without interruption most places. But an empty store, quiet, I'm waiting a super long time for my order (over twice as long as promised), I felt like an unwanted trespasser - frankly it was odd. I don't need entertainment or a song and dance but the vibe was weird. My hubby who eats anything said the wagyu hot dog was not great - he said it definitely did not taste like premium Wagyu and definitely not worth the amount of money. The short rib grilled cheese was delicious. It was packed with good quality meat and very filling. Good sandwich to share. The chocolate chip cookies bought at the counter were really tasty. $4 each. Recommend calling in your order for sandwiches before coming. And assuming extra wait time than what is told. If you have a tight timeframe for lunch then skip this place. read more

First time here! I should not have waited so long! :) I came in to see what the place is about and to grab a few sandwiches to try. It's essentially a meat market with everything from ground beef to A5 wagyu. It's also a deli and shop filled with tasty looking cheeses, pies, chartreutere fixings, along with other sundries. I'll be back to pick some of this up next time. It's a nice ambiance - a perfect mix of modern and classic. The sandwiches were top shelf for sure! I picked up a tri-tip as well as a pastrami to share with my daughter. The tri-tip was great! I was a bit worried at first glance as I'm not always a fan of slaw on my sandwich (I know, I'm weird), but the flavor of the slaw was a good mix a sweet and tang, and the spicy mayo rounded it out perfectly. While searching for our annual holiday Prime Rib, I stumbled across The Meat Company. Located next to The Fish Company, which has been one of my favorite restaurants for over 40 years, I was surprised that I hadn't noticed it previously. Upon entering and inspecting the display of meats, I could immediately see the quality of cuts. Of course quality comes at a price. The hand trimmed, bone in 9 lb prime rib was just shy of $350. I have made Christmas Prime Rib for almost 40 years, and without question this was the most flavorful and tender ever. The service was excellent. They cut and tied the roast, and did a fantastic job of trimming the excess fat prior to weighing. The staff was friendly. The shop is clean and well merchandised. I returned a few weeks later to get a porterhouse to celebrate my brother's birthday. Once again maybe the best steak I have had in any restaurant or otherwise. Finally, I joined their club, which entitled me to a free sandwich from their deli on my birthday. I took advantage of this and ordered a hand carved smoke pastrami. Both the Mrs and I agreed it was the best pastrami we had ever had. Heads up, this place is not cheap, but if you have a few extra dollars, you won't regret spending it here. read more

I went in there for the 1st time and just got a couple of grass fed hamburger patties. The service was good but I did feel like it could have been a little faster as there were only a couple people inside. But as soon as the lady was done ringing up a customer, she did come right over and ask if I had been helped. We made the burgers at home and literally there was no fat .... I was shocked. I really like lean meat so I was thrilled. The flavor was ok as I tried it first without adding any seasoning. I did add some seasoning after and it was much better. So this place popped up for me when I opened yelp today and they had my curiosity when I saw the pastrami and that it was house cured. So I called them up and ordered and was told it would be ready in 15 minutes (pretty standard when ordering a sandwich from most places). I got there and the sandwich was ready, the staff welcomed me in and recommended their chipotle pasta salad as a side. They also had a good selection of quality sodas (read made with real sugar and decent ingredients) So I took my nice hot sandwich and headed back home. The menu said the sandwich was on a toasted roll but even better it came on some lightly toasted marble rye (pastrami belongs on rye). While different than other pastrami sandwiches I have had this one was delicious and stands on its own. The poblano mustard and pickle offer a great tartness to the somewhat sweet and salty pastrami and the melted cheddar was icing on the cake. The slices were thick which meant more of a bite/chew compared to most places where the pastrami is razor thin but that is to be expected with thicker cuts. The chipotle pasta salad had a bit of a kick but was super creamy and good. Now I need to try their other sandwiches! As for ambience, it's a meat market and the selection of meats along with having their own dry freezer will lead me to come back when I am looking to grill up some quality beef as well. I know others had bad experiences but mine was really good, the food was tasty and I want to try some of their other sandwiches as well! 10/10 recommended. read more

Small cute little meat market located in Los Alamitos but they happened to serve sandwiches too. Whilst on the search for a special sandwich, my wife and I landed on this spot. We tried to phone our order but because of popularity we got there before we were able to make contact via telephone. We landed on the pastrami sandwich and the meatball sandwich. Both were pleasantly delectable. The pastrami was juicy and seasoned perfectly without because salty. The meatball was moist and had good structure.
