A&J was recommended by Mike D. Mike owns several rental properties and had used them before. The laundry drain was blocked. The drain runs through a trap in the floor. The tech started by running his camera in just a few inches before he encountered the blockage. He then said he would have to cable the drain. (no kidding) He tried a couple times and could not keep the cable from circling back through the trap. The laundry drain pipe does make it hard to enter the clean out so I suggested I would remove it for him. I did and he still could not keep his cable from circling. He then proceeded to tell me he needed more space to work in so he could force his cable in the right direction. So, he charged me $100.00 and said to call when I made more space. I then borrowed an electric powered cable from Mike D. and proceeded to clean the drain myself. It took a little finesse and about 1 minute extra, but I was able to cable the drain myself. I admit the space is tight, but I was able to get it to work with a little effort not shown by the professional. He was in a hurry. I called the office and let them know about the experience. They did apologize but, no restitution was offered. I cannot recommend them based on my experience. read more

These guys are awesome! They fixed a major clog in my kitchen sink drain. They were on time, friendly, affordable and very eager to answer our questions and point us in the right direction with future steps. I can't recommend them enough, they were wonderful! The worker they sent to clear my drain was rude, condescending, and walked off the unfinished job. This company was subcontracted by my regular plumber to do the drain work. The tech spent much of the time questioning and criticizing the contractors previous work which was irrelevant to the current problem and also not very smart to bite the hand that feeds them. After barking orders at me to turn this or that on and off then criticizing how fast or slow I was responding, he then threw a little fit stating he was tired of dealing with people like me and we don't need your business. I have never encountered such unprofessional behavior and do not recommend this company. read more

I had them come out to do a service call December 2 paid $110. tenant is having same problem again. 30 day warranty only. It's now January 10 they want to discount the call to $100. I've used A&J two or three times now, all with excellent service. One time, it was a holiday, freezing cold, and dark; they showed up as champs, and were polite and professional under clearly challenging conditions. Recently we had Sean come out to trouble-shoot, and ended up with a video camera DVD of a drain line from the gutter to the street, which pinpointed our troubles. Plus some ideas for low cost fixes; all for a reasonable fee, and in good time. Very professional all the way through, from service to technology to paperwork. Here's your Pro-Tip from Sean: remember to rout out your lines before the holidays, as a matter of routine maintenance. Otherwise, when the house is suddenly full of twenty relatives - whoops! I had a basement sewer drain that was backing up. I called my normal plumber but they could not come for 3 days. My plumber recommended A & J Drain Service. They said that when it was a clogged drain and they couldn't get to it quickly they refereed people to A & J Drain Service. I call A & J Drain Service and they were able have Shawn here in just a few hours. Shawn got right to work, had me turn on a few faucets to see where the clog may be. I feared the worst (roots in the line, collapsed line, etc) but Shawn determined it was a clog of toilet paper and grease. No up sell, no shenanigans. Shawn quickly cleared it for the price I was expecting (very reasonable) and was out the door.If you have a clogged drain I would strongly recommend A & J Drain Service and Shawn! read more

The company was great to deal with. The technician was polite and professional. I had the work done (cable/snake of main sewer line from yard access to the street, where it connected to MSD) pursuant to a stipulation for the sale of my home. The company went above and beyond to make sure I had the documentation for the job that I needed for closing. And the price for the work was unbeatable. I was quoted $130 for the job, but an Angie's List coupon took it down to $110. No one else came close to that price. read more

One of them literally hung up on me and completely down played and disrespected an issue they at least likely played a role in causing. A & J scoped the pipes as part of my home inspection before I moved in, and luckily I had their business card still. After some recent rain, an inch or more of mud was backing up over my outside basement stairwell drain, totally covering the landing area itself. I called RotoRooter and they quoted me $280-$419 to fix the issue. I called Marty, the owner, of A & J and he came out the next day. He was done in less than an hour, pointed out what was likely causing the issue, and gave me instructions as to how I could maintain the issue so it won't be as likely to happen again. A&J Drain Service Review We had used A&J once previously, about 4-5 years ago and were well satisfied. When another drain problem occurred (we live in an older home with lots and lots of trees around...) we immediately thought of A&J again. We called and set an appointment for the following day when we were available-at 9:00 am. The service from the office was great-I lost them on my mobile phone and they called back to make sure all the arrangements were set. Jeremy arrived right on time, quickly assessed the situation, and decided the best course of action (i.e., whether is was better to go through the floor drain in the basement or through the exterior clean out). He was knowledgeable, courteous, and efficient and was respectful of the property (the clean out is right next to a flower bed...). He checked to make sure the drain was clean in both directions and that the service had been effective. We were charged a very fair price for the service and the receipt was in our email inbox in 5 minutes. Based on our experience, A&J is a great local business and we would have to give them an "A+" on service and value. read more

We recently called A & J out for an emergency due to a sewer back up. Not only did they resolve that immediate issue quickly, they also suggested what we could do to find out what was causing the sewer back up in the first place. We highly recommend this company. We used the camera to view the line and then a jet flush to get our lines back in good shape. read more
