Five years ago, my entire basement was flooded in 2 inches deep of water at 2 AM. First, I ventured into the pool in the basement and turned off the main intake valve for the house, then at 2:30 AM I phoned his emergency hotline. A half an hour later, at 3 AM he phoned me back. He instructed me that as long as the water was not turned off, he would send someone at 8 AM. Sure enough, two plumbers arrived at my doorstep at 8 AM, and located and fixed a busted valve. Six months ago, his crew replaced the faucets on two sinks and fixed a leaking drainpipe on one of the sinks. But five months later, the drainpipe began to leak again. This time, Ed himself arrived. As usual, he fully explained to me the problem. I did not hint that maybe the leak had not been properly fixed six months earlier, and was ready to pay for his visit and quick fix. When I reviewed the itemized costs, they broke down the costs as being ~$750 dollars in labor. That $750 is further broken down into two men working 4 hours each, from 10 am- 2 pm. In addition, I paid for a "smoke test" $150, which they had to come and do a the next day. First of all, they arrived well after 10 am the first day, the second guy arrived close to 11 am. They left ~15 minutes before 2 pm, so their costs for labor are off. Additionally they told me the next day that they would come at 10:30 to perform the smoke test (which I had already paid for the day before). At 11:10, I called their office and asked where they were. The wife is the secretary. She asked me who I was, and she made a comment "you are the person who's furnace my husband cleaned yesterday, he was so dirty when he came home." Lady, your husband cleans furnaces for a living and he charged me over $1,000 yesterday, he better have gotten dirty. These guys are crooks, find someone else!

In April they came out and installed the Kohler, I had purchased a new rubber replacement flange, so no wax. I was told to have the installation guarantee they had to use their flange & gasket. This April installation was $397. So, I was surprised in September when water was dripping into my basement. I called them back; they said the flange had cracked. They replaced everything again and instead of fixing the problem they just inserted a rubber connector (see pix). This visit cost $636. So a total of over $1,000 to install my new Kohler toilet that I purchased in my 30-year-old house that should have been done correctly on the first visit for $397.

My pipes froze a couple of years ago and when I called Jim he came over in a flash with heaters to try and get things warmed up. I'm sure he had plenty of people he was helping that day. however he never seemed rushed or acted like I was an inconvenience. he never charged me for his kindness and help. he told me the pipes woudl unfreeze when the temp reached about 36. he was exactly right. he does all the work for us around the complex. every one loves him.
