We recently purchased the vehicle used, so was unaware of the condition on the break pads. I scheduled an appointment with Rainey's automotive and dropped off the vehicle the next day. Promptly, the mechanic personally called me, and told me that my breaks were not bad, they were about 1/2 life left, but the rotors looked like they had surface damage from being too hot. He resurfaced the rotors, and it took care of the problem. The mechanic could have lied, and told me the breaks were bad, and made more money, but was honest. Honesty and integrity go a long way in my book. I will be back! It's great to have a mechanic that you can trust! It's one of the advantages of our small town :). Definitely an asset to Lenoir! Grease Monkey seems to be the area's basic equivalent to Jiffy Lube, Valvoline and the like, that I…read moreused before moving here. They seem to be very professional, courteous and informative when it comes to the basic service I went there for. I'd gone there during the winter to get Nitro in my tires, while I was also planning on getting my usual 3,000-mile oil change. It was the good folks at Grease Monkey who explained that these days, and with the 2003 car I have, oil doesn't really need to be changed more often than 5,000 miles -- I'm old school, and have always used 3,000 as the rule. Point being, they didn't have to tell me what they did -- it showed that they were more interested in good service, over agreeing to a premature oil/filter change, and making money when it wasn't necessary. I passed on the option for synthetics and combos thereof, and went for the basic 30-weight oil. Folks were very friendly like I'd mentioned. Since I don't work, I went and drove by there when it looked as though they weren't taking care of many customers, so I don't think I was there longer than 25 minutes, and got everything done. There were no high pressure sales for unnecessary things either, which I appreciate. I'll be using them from here on out, or will change this review if they're not as good as what I've seen so far.

Two things concerned me 1) that it may come off while driving and create all kinds of havoc 2) that the rental company would blame me. I knew perfectly well that I hadn't driven the car in anyway to cause it. I won't use this rental car company again because it's the 2nd car I've had from them with problems. In any event the team here were very professional, friendly and quick to figure out how to fix it. It took some definite problem solving which I think they enjoyed. Their pricing was extremely fair on top of that. I'll be moving to this area in a few years and hope they maintain all their good qualities. I surely would go back.

I made an appointment to have new tires put on my truck over the phone. I was told over the phone…read morethat my total would be 855 out the door. When someone tells me that to me that means after ALL charges that's the total, but when they told me the total it was 905. When i told them the quote over the phone they said that didn't include mounting balancing and tax. I have had a a lot of tires put in before and all other dealers tell you the installed price. So why would a company try to scam an extra 50 bucks from you just to get a bad review? While I was there they tried to convince an old lady that she needed a brake line fluid flus. Who the hell has ever even heard of that. Then the guy who is putting on my tires just leaves the shop right in the middle of the job on his little e bike and leaves me waiting there while he is off doing who knows what. WTF who does that? They told me my appointment was at 11 and finally after two hours I get to leave. If that's the shady way they do business than that was my last set of tires at Mavis. Do yourself a favor and go to Alray. Every time they tell me a price on tires that's what I pay. I'm pretty sure that's what people expect, you know doing what you say your going to do. Who would have thought that.
