We hired this company to build a patio, front entrance walkway and redo all my plant beds. The total amount was over $20K. We hired them because of all the reviews and, after comparing with other companies we thought it was the contractor to hire. Well, I got to say, they did a good job with the brick patio and walkway. Although less than a year with our having some issues with the slope coming into the house instead of against it. I was extremely clear about that. They also created a fireplace with a semi-circular wall with lights. Well, as for the firepit, they failed to leave areas for the air to come in (which is needed to feed the fire), no protection to the brink inside, really hard to create a nice fire anyway. In the design, we have a sitting wall next to the firepit that we opted to include lights. The transformer and installation cost us an additional $1k. The staff didn't bury the cables properly with protective tubing and just barely buried them about 1 in if not underground - just covered with a lot of mulch. At the moment, we are in the process of hiring another professional to redo this was good but all the cables were not properly buried, didn't use protective tubing - we are now in the process to hire another contractor to redo poorly installed lights which we are expecting to pay around $1K more. So, for the bed plants - they brought soil from (who knows where) and introduced torpedo grass. After bringing this to his attention, he said I already had the problem, not true, because never had this issue for 4 years, it just started to happen after work was done. I asked why he didn't put the industrial-grade landscaping plastic and he felt insulted. I was livid. Because once his staff left the job, it was not completed so it took me quite a few phone calls to reach him. He designed and we trusted his advice on this one - he planted a whole bunch of Sago palms (were about $25+ a piece) - we lost over 10 of those within the first 6 months. They were way too young. He also recommended some ornamental grasses for the front and back of the house, they look absolutely awful once they started to grow and take over everything. Three other landscapers told me afterwards, these type of grasses are great to plant around lakes or ponds and not were they were planted. To fix the problem A&R created, we had to spend another $1500.00 a year later to install - industrial grade plastic, replace over 20 plants (the new landscaper charge me a fraction of the cost for the plants - he even said I was over charge for the type of plants), and re-mulch. 3 months later after work was redone, the bed areas look fabulous and no issues with the torpedo grass taken over the areas. Overall - I will not recommend this company - they maybe good doing brick work, but stay away from his landscaping designs. If he really knew the areas, he would not had recommended all the plants not suited for my gardens. BTW - he promised he was going to be onsite for a specific front design, he never showed up, but, be aware, they are great asking you for the installments during the work. read more

Andy and A&R landscaping did a back yard remodel project for us. When we met for the first time, he made sure to listen to our needs and how we wanted to use the space. He made note of our budget, but was sure to tell us that his goal was to create a vision for the space and then we would work together to meet the budget. Sure enough, he came back with a great vision... a truly revolutionary idea for the space. Yes, it was over our budget, but as he promised, he showed us the possibility and was fully committed to working with us to do what we could do within our budget. We met in a good place and signed the contract. His primary team of workers have all been with him for a long time, it is truly a family type of business. He does use contractors for special needs (electric, etc), but all of those contractors have been with him a long time as well. Each of his team was simply great. They were kind, considerate, addressed our every concern and made simple adjustments on the fly as we looked at the progress. They cleaned the area every day... while it was obviously under construction, they left everything outside the fence incredibly clean and tidy. Even my neighbors noted how pleasant and courteous the team was. Since the original installation, we have had a few problems with faulty irrigation parts. Andy and his team have been quick to respond and fixed to our satisfaction. The end result was a transformed back yard living area. We did not do everything in the vision that Andy provided, but we got the majority of it and always have the infrastructure to do more. We will definitely use A&R for our pending front yard remodel. Simply stated... Andy thrives on creating great living spaces and beautiful landscaping, he understands how to work within the customers means, and his team goes above and beyond to deliver in the way you would want someone working on your home. Andy came out to write and estimate and told me he would have an estimate in a week and a half. He told me if I did not receive it to give his daughter Sabrina a call Have left 2 messages with no return calls and we are at 3 weeks now. this guy only cares about himself and no one else. I waited 3 weeks and now have to start looking for other companies. My project was more complex with multiple circles and a double border. I am guessing the job was too hard or just too much work for him. He talked a big game how he was in business for over 25 plus years. I should have read his reviews about not coming through with estimates he promised. Andy do not bother responding either. Your dishonestly is written all over this post. read more

A&R did an AMAZING job renovating my backyard. I spent 8 months searching for a company to help repair my backyard and install a new fence. There was erosion, a drainage problem, a retaining wall that needed built, and the new fence installation. They were so easy to work with, timely, and extremely professional. As a I had questions throughout the process, the team was so helpful and worked to make sure I was completely happy when the project was finished. The company is full of dedicated and wonderful people to work with! When my project was inspected by the city, the inspector said "This looks perfect!" I think the previous reviewer either had a huge budget or is actually is just a really good friend of the owner to this company. The owner andy came to my house to look over the property and give me a estimate. I waited 2 weeks for this appointment. Once he looked over the property and I told him budget, him me told me he would do a drawing and email me a proposal (never did he tell me my budget was too small. After 2 weeks and no contact I emailed him to ask if he had a chance to write up my proposal. I was answered and was told that he had gotten busy and that he would do it in a couple days. Another week later I was sent a drawing that I could have done my self and was totally underwhelmed by the drawing that took him 3 weeks it was a paver patio and a few hedges and a proposal costing $10,668. As a D.I.Y'r I can totally do the simple patio for less than $5200 and I can plant my own hedges for less than $1000. I told him that I was sorry but I was expecting something a little bit more extravagant. Below is his response: "We can do extravagant, just check out our projects on my web site! However you said your budget was around $5000. That gets you this patio. Since I don't charge for my designs I really didn't want to waste time designing something that won't work in your budget. " My budget was higher however he totally forgot how much it was because he waited 3 weeks to "draw" up the proposal. Andy and his crew are second to none! As a new homeowner I've recently dealt with professionals of all sorts (roofers, plumbers, pest control, etc.) and our experience with A & R was far and away the most positive one. Andy (the owner) listened to what we wanted and then drew up an amazing plan. His crew was prompt, polite, and extremely hard working. The project included two retaining walls 90 feet long, paver patio, wooden deck construction, new fence, complete regrading and sodding of yard, and multiple flower beds. On top of it all, they gave us the best price of all of the estimates we had done. I've never written a Yelp review before, but felt compelled after this experience. I hired these guys to transform my backyard pool area into a tropical paradise. They did not meet my expectations they far and away exceeded them!!!! They were on time and more professional than I could have ever imagined. This isn't a company who is just there to do the minimum for the most money possible. Andy, the owner and the guy who did the design was there working right along side them. Making sure everything was perfect! He went over, in detail, how to take care of things, how to control the weeds, even said "Now when you run in to questions or forget what I told you, take a pic and send me an e-mail. I help you". When they left everything was spotless. The only thing I had to do was get a drink and sit back and admire their incredible job. If I had to say any negative it would be that I got tired of typing the positives so I couldn't keep telling everyone how incredible they are!!!! read more
