My pork store growing up. I've come to love it again. Funny what pork stores mean especially during a pandemic. Before even walking in, you realize you are about to have a good meal. It looks the part and it sure delivers. I ordered the sausage and peppers on a roll which was delicious. All the daily fresh items look awesome and when i go back i would like to try the chicken cutlets with red sauce. They had different choices of bread as well. They had rolls, italian loafs, and some others. There seems to be endless items to choose from so looks like a place that i will be visiting again. Came back a second time and tried a caprese sandwich on a roll. It was DELICIOUS. It is hard to make a simple sandwich stand out but it did. The mozz was milky and creamy, the tomatoes added a touch of acidity, and the bread rounded it all out. Great sandwich. read more

Mom and pops stores are a dying breed, especially in NYC. In neighborhoods untouched by the heavy gentrification, some gems have continued to thrive. This place is one such gem. Working in the area, I had frequently come here to buy awesome fresh cuts of various meats (the ribs and steaks are stellar). This all changed after I saw a piece by ciaooo! Magazine (ig: @ciaooomag) she had interviewed the staff and tried one of their specialty sandwiches called the Julio. When I saw a picture of this sandwich I knew I had to try one. I was greeted by a friendly staff and when I asked about this sandwich I knew it was go time from their excitement. A great combination of cold cuts, cheeses, and fresh vegetables on a roll, the Julio had it all. Now that I know this is a viable lunch spot in the area, I will certainly return to try everything. I would 100% recommend this place for lunch whether you're in the area or even just in NYC. read more

This is probably my new favorite spot. A friend of mine who'd been coming here for 37 years brought me, and despite not having been there for 3 years, the Joes immediately recognized him. When we're talking about neighborhood mom and pop shop- this is it. Amazing, friendly service run by the 77 year old Joe Sr and his son, Joe aka Joe Pork. I think the entire time I was there, every single customer was greeted by name. It's rare to see that type of neighborhood shop these days, and I'm glad they're still here. The food was phenomenal. Customers have been coming for years so I knew the quality was amazing and service was superb. I had the JULIO sandwich - which was a perfectly crusty bread with arugula, fresh mozzarella, Parmesan and some cold cuts (I actually can't even tell u what was in there I'm still reeling from ecstasy lol). Also try the Sicilian teardrop - which is a riceball shaped like a teardrop. And make sure to stop by next door and pick up some bagels from bake city (also the same owners). read more

It's very similar to a lot of the more well known Italian butchers in Brooklyn, but I think their selection is larger - especially when it comes to meal-ready side dishes and mains. Platter after platter of food makes you wish this was an Italian wedding so you could try them all for free... fish, chicken, pasta dishes, vegetable medleys, stuffed mushrooms, etc. I got a heaping bowl of calamari in red sauce for dinner for $9/lb. In the back there's a room full of fellows, cranking out food, bread, cheeses, etc. I'm jealous I don't live nearby, but then again it's probably better as I'd look like Luciano Pavarotti after a few weeks (as in corpulent, not pushing up the daisies). read more

A & S has the best lard bread and it goes so good with their delicious roasted peppers. I love the garlic in the roasted peppers and let's face it, the roasted peppers in the jars in the water are not even close in quality as compared to the pork store made roasted peppers.
