This is an older style restaurant but was fun to visit. The food was very good and a large amount for the money. Two people can share the float and still have some left. read more

Came in for a snack-- Good service at the counter (with a new crew member getting trained), quick food order. The chicken sliders were pretty good (staff suggested ordering one of each type so I could try both the Crispy and the Grilled . I liked crispy best). Fries were excellent, nice and crispy. It doesn't get any more old-school than a an A&W root beer stand. Grabbed a combo with a foot-long hotdog with Coney sauce and onions. Some kind of spicy ranch fries with lots of jalapeños. Not very good for me but I enjoyed it. read more

I ordered two large papa burger meals with onion rings and root beer floats. The prices of everything have went up and I understand that, staffing is a problem and I understand that, but customer service and portions have taken a serious hit at this place. The burger and onion rings were decent, but the large root beer floats with dome lids didn't even get filled up to the top of the cup, in fact the ice cream wasn't even up to the top of the cup itself. Also I asked for the onion ring sauce with them and when I got to the window they made me pay an extra 25 cents for the sauce.... I know it's only 25 cents but it's the culmination of prices going up, service going down, shrinking portions, and then adding the 25 cents for your sauce at the window that just ruined it for me. read more

We have waited 5 mins for food all the way to 45 mins - if you're prepared to wait it's not bad. Their hamburgers are delicious and the toppings always fresh. Out at Caberfae for a few days, and swung West to enjoy an evening. The whole town was shut down. The two business in the entire town open before 2100 were this, and a Shell. They had two employees, neither very friendly or helpful. That's okay. There was food, it was cheap, it tasted alright. My daughter and I stopped here on our way from Indiana to camp Arcadia. We got 2 burgers, 2 Coney dogs, cheese curds, curly fries, and 2 root beers. Our total was less than $20! First of all, everything was piping hot, fresh! The fries and curds were both delicious. My daughter said the burgers were good. My Coney dogs were good, but I wasn't a big fan of the Coney sauce. It was more of a chili, and too runny for hot dogs. Made for messy eating. The root beer was good, but I'm not positive it's made in house like the signs say. It was poured out of the fountain with all the other drinks. The wait was a bit, but our food was hot so I'm ok with that. Overall we would return, it was a good visit with good food. read more

I have only been here twice, and the building is a little bit beat up, but the help are super nice and the place is pretty fast for an A&W I love A&W's in general, but there aren't many left in the Mitten, so I almost feel it is a responsibility to support then or they will go away The cheese curds are the best in the business and it is one of the only places you can get a root beer float to go read more

I LOVE A&W! A&W is so delicious! I recommend the cheese curds, but only the regular size. Maybe it's just me, but if you get the big size it's way too many to finish. I always get my food in a timely manner, (I go here often) it smells good, I feel welcomed, and again, the food is amazing. Hands down the greatest fast food place in Manistee. Nobody else can compete with A&W. read more

Yesturday i went there,there was 2 couple and a single patron already eating one guy in front of me.i ordered 4 burgers @2/4$ and one onion ring order.girl made us wait 14 minutes before taking our order because she was talking to the young man in front of us while his order was being cooked.He wanted some special shake she said the didnt have any more but then decided next time you come in i will make you one.He got his food went sat down,she still didnt take our order.she decided to make the dude his special shake or whatever and walks out and gives it to him.i dont think he paid for it.i paid with a special bank card for gas reimbursement for medical stuff.i can get food but it wont pay a tip.i didnt even notice ,i thaught our bill was a little high.next morning my bank flagged my card purchase.i thaught someone had used my card.i call in.nope turns out the were letting me know that a 20% tip gratuity was tried to be charged.i called the a&w when she opened and she asked me to come show her my phone.The manager argued that they cant do that theres no place to add tip.YET SHE TRIED! the young lady was there working again.i pointed her out.it was a special card so the tip would not go through.if i had used my discover card or master card she would have got away with it.2.31 is the diffrence.Not A Big deal???? Welll.....how many other people is she jacking their cards for money.Thats a pretty lucrative income scam on the side,PLUS she gave away an expensive big ol shake! Best employee my ass! Worst A&W. Dirty, greasy floors. Looks like decor inside is original and never maintained. All beat up. Food horrible. Thin limp fries. Waited extra long for chicken tenders to cook. They were like rubber. My better half had burgers and coney dog. He didn't like his either. I have eaten many A&W restaurants across the country over the years and had astronomically better food. If I owned the A&W brand I would take their franchise away and sell it to someone that cares. read more

Cheese fires with the order then was told I never ordered them cause they weren't on the ordering screen. My try was covered in root beer. Yup. A fast food restaurant and I'm giving it 4 stars. A trip down memory lane for me; I remember having an A&W in my town when I was in high school. This is not one of those newer ones attached to other chain restaurants (LJS), but an old-fashioned looking A&W stand alone. Considering that Manistee has many fast food restaurants to choose from I would suggest working on the customer service. My root beer float over flowed and I used up all of the (small amount) of napkins that I was given, then I proceeded to ask for more napkins then one of the workers came out with a nasty attitude (worse than a teenaged girl on her period that didn't get her way) and a rag. Once she arrived to my table she says (and I quote) that's why you're supposed to keep the float on the tray. I was never told prior to the event that I was supposed to leave it on the tray. Not only that, the teenager that was working the cash register (Cameron I think his name was) you could tell that he was new to the job and the same woman was "helping" him and she was very rude and mean to him and I felt pretty bad for the guy. Went to the Manistee A&W mainly for a root beer float and a foot long hotdog. Order was placed. In the meantime another lady ordered a chicken tender basket. When the order came up it wasn't the basket that she received. The clerk argued with her telling her that she didn't order that. Fortunately another person in line had heard her order and the person was given the chicken basket. All this time we wait. The root beer float is running all over the counter and the tray. I asked for another tray which I got. We got the hot dog and then we waited for the fries all the time listening to one person working there complaining. Finally we get our fries and try to get to a place to sit and eat. The floor was slippery, really slippery. Sitting there we heard someone ask the girl at the register if they had air conditioning. The girl said yes but the owner wouldn't let them turn it on. It was 83 degrees outside so you can imagine how hot it was inside. One gentlemen was wiping his face because of the sweat. Awful service, terrible staff. Maybe the heat had gotten to the staff too and that may be the reason for the attitude, greasy floors, awful service. read more
