Thursday night on my drive home, my check engine light came on. When I got home, I ran the code and saw it was a cylinder 4 misfire. The next morning, I called about four different auto shops, and every one of them told me the earliest they could get me in was by Wednesday, and some were even booked out two weeks. I decided to look for shops that were open on Saturday, hoping I could get in sooner. That's when I came across A+ Automotive and Smog on Google. I gave them a call, and Christian answered. I explained what was going on and asked when they might have an opening. To my surprise, he said to bring it down that same day, and he'd take a look at it. He also recommended having it towed in, which I did. Shortly after, he sent me a text to confirm that my car had arrived at the shop. A couple hours later, Christian called and explained that the issue was a faulty ignition coil. He walked me through how he diagnosed it and gave me two options: replace just the one faulty coil or replace all six. He recommended replacing all six since they were the same age and, in his words, "once one goes bad, the others usually aren't far behind." He was transparent about the pricing. It would be around $700 for just one coil or $950 for all six. He explained that Ford charges significantly more for a single part, and the total difference was only about $200. I decided to replace all six, and just a few hours later, he called to let me know my car was ready. I told him I'd have to wait for my wife to get off work before I could pick it up, and he said that was no problem at all. When I picked it up later that evening, my car was running perfectly smooth again. Between the quick turnaround, honest pricing, and excellent customer service, I can confidently say I've found my new mechanic. I recently needed to replace the catalytic converter on my vehicle and after getting quotes around town, A+ Automotive was the clear winner by a few thousand dollars. The shop manager (and I believe owner), Christian, was incredibly kind, knowledgeable, and great at communicating with me throughout the experience. Christian even stayed late for me to grab my house keys I forgot to take off the keychain when dropping off the car! Such a great expirence from start to finish! Called a few months ago about an issue with one of our vehicles, and was looking for guidance on smog testing and diagnosing an issue that would interfer with it. Christian walked me through every step of the process, explained my issue and ways to problem solve it, and options i had moving forward. I brought my car in, and he quoted me a price that was both reasonable and fair, plus would smog test after the repair. When we decided to bring our vehicle in, they were able to get us in super quickly, and were very accomodating with us and our schedules. 10.21.23: Every once in a while there's this pack of coupon cards that get thrown out onto our driveways in a baggie. I've always remembered there's a smog coupon included and knew my registration would be due soon and had saved it for when I needed it. Well today was the day. I went to A+ and I was there for no more than 15 minutes. The man who helped me and performed the smog was really nice and even asked how my day was going. The value of saving almost 10 bucks is definitely worth it and if I didn't have a coupon, I would come here anyways because of how nice they treat their customers. read more

I bought a used car few months ago. When I heard about Reno A+ Automotive & Smog I already paid $1100 for the front brakes at Tire Plus. I asked Christian for a quote, and it was $350. I couldn't believe it that I paid $1100 when I could have paid much less. recently , my car had an issue when I backed up and barked, the traction control light came on and the steer wheel became hard to move. I had to turn the engine off and on, to get it back to normal. Also, I noticed , the front lights were changing the intensity when I was driving. I dropped my Mazda 3 off there. He took a quick look and said that maybe the steer wheel pump and alternative hah problem, but he emphasized that he wanted to investigate more to ensure he was changing the right part and fixing the issue. I loved his approach. Few hours later, he came back to me with some pictures, showing that the main issue was the battery harness. This demonstrated his expertise in detecting the issue. However, the important part was his morality behavior, which I haven't seen in other repair shops in my more than 18 years of living in Reno. Every repair shop tries to rip off the customer on the parts. He told me he found the harness in Reno for $1500 but he was going to do a little additional search to see if he could find a cheaper price if I have time. Finally, he patiently found the same harness for $500 included shipping from other state. The part came in, he changed the harness instead of the steer wheel pump or the alternative and the issue was fixed. My car was back on the road with $775 including part. This honesty and expertise are invaluable and hard to find both in one person. read more
