I think of the Better Roofing Company as the Best Roofing Company. They always show up as promised. You may think that this skill as a given, but other contractors were a no show for an estimate. State Farm, my brother-in-laws' home insurance company took a photo from a satellite of water ponding on his roof. They threatened to abandone him and force him to find another insurance company. We could only find companies I never heard of for twice the amount. They also had bad reviews. He had 22 days to get the paperwork of a new completed roof to headquarters. The Best Roofing Company worked on Saturday and Sunday because Monday through Friday was taken. They got the County Inspector out a day earlier then the county promised. I'm not sure how Nader did this. They installed a 1/4" tapered, insulated roof, so water would not pond on his flat roof in subsequent years. Without this it could force him to encounter the same situation of a satellite photo of ponding a few years down the road. They fixed a Mickey Mouse electrical fix, done by a past amateur homeowner. They got the electrician out in a day. Liam, the estimator, guided us with what we needed for now and the future. He was early for the appointment, and very clear in his language of what was needed. Marcos, the foreman of the work, answered my concerns on a Sunday. He was willing to come out on a Sunday, but I thought was unnecessary, due to his clearly answering my questions. A lot of things are weather related so they did their best to stick to the agreed upon date. Have been a great company to work with in deciding what to be done. Kept it simple and didn't try to sell me on some proprietary roofing material. 30# felt has been around forever and as evidenced on my roof it still works just fine. I like time tested and simple. The crew arrived on time, ripped the old roof off and redid it in a day. They took precautions to avoid any damage to my yard and windows. Crawled up on the roof yesterday to check the work and it appears stellar. The chimney flashing is spot on. Very happy with their work and their clean up. Only found a few nails which is to be expected. Nice crew. Would recommend this company to anyone and will continue to give them praises and referrals. read more

Jon brings a lot of experience and integrity. He alerted us to the need to not mix types of exhaust vents on the roof (i.e. powered roof vent with ridge vents and gable vents). In doing more research as a result of that, I learned a lot and was surprised at how little other roofers knew or were willing to discuss. We ended up going with a different roofer when we had our roof replaced, but am regretting the decision. Now during the actual roof replacement, the costs of additional repairs to replace plywood sheating, trim pieces, etc from this other roofer are extremely high. The atmospheric river and bomb cyclone combo that came through the bay area on 10/24/21 manifested leaks in our concrete tile roof. I sent multiple work requests via Yelp for roof repair and almost all replied that they were too busy or at best could schedule a look in about 3 weeks. The exception was A Better Roofing. Orei immediately replied to my Yelp message that Jon would call me hopefully this week when he was in the area. The first call came a couple days later but I was at work. He called again on Saturday afternoon and my family was able to meet him at my home. I was not at home, but we spoke by phone and he texted me multiple before and after photos of broken tiles and flashings that he repaired, so it was as if I was there. We had a water leak from a valley which was clogged with some debris. Jon, the owner, acknowledged our Yelp inquiry, came out to assess and estimate within a couple days, and we scheduled an appointment for the next day. We had three different roofs to contend with on our 92 year old home. We called multiple companies who refused to either come out or tell us they didn't want to do it. Jon came over, inspected everything and gave us a reasonably priced estimate. He explained what roofing products he uses and then gutter/downspout products, as well. Wow, what a great company. After the last big rain fall, I noticed water pouring down the side of our house and overshooting the gutter. I called several roofing companies. Most never called me back. One other company showed up and told me I needed $4000 worth of repairs. A better Roofing company showed up a couple of days later and brought me on the roof and showed me the issue. It was simply a valley on my roof that was clugged up with dirt and leaves. We walk around my roof and they gave me maintenance tips. We cleaned the area and when I tried to pay them for their time they told me don't worry about it. What can I say, an honest company that spent their valuable time with me for FREE. We got several bids, which is what you should do, of course. Jon from A Better Roofing stood out with plain talk and a fair price. There's three things you need in a roof: the highest quality work, good materials and a warranty. And this is what you get. Oh, right, and it needs to be waterproof. Jon was the first person to arrive, the last person to leave, and he inspected every inch of the roof. He worked right along with the crew, putting in the long hours personally. We have dealt with a lot of contractors and this was absolutely first rate. Get on the waiting list before it gets too long. We had a rather complicated roof with some funny angles and also a flat roof. Everything was carefully thought out, installed expertly and everything fits. We had GAF brand shingles put on the pitched roof and TPO (a synthetic, durable and waterproof material) on the flat part, which replaced the tar-and-gravel. The newer shingles on the pitched roof are a bit thinner than what I was used to, but supposedly that is because they are laminated. They come with a very long warranty. For a bit more, you can get thicker shingles, but my feeling is that it is the *installation* that makes the difference in how long the roof lasts. The TPO (thermoplastic polyolefin) reflects most of the light back, so if you have a flat roof in the sun it is a good choice. It's noticeably cooler in this room with the newer roof. TPO is a combination of several materials: rubber, some sort of plastic, and a binder to hold it all together which could be fiberglass or even carbon fiber. TPO goes on in big sheets and it's tough enough to walk on. The white is super bright, so consider the grey if you have a neighbor right up a hill from you. The GAF roof is a complete system: different membranes, a vent, different types of shingles for the edges and the caps, and so on. Theoretically, the different parts of the system work together, which is why you get a longer warranty. If you are in a very sunny spot, you can also get reflective shingles--keep in mine that if you are cooler in Summer you may also be a touch cooler in Winter, although the sun has less effect in Winter, of course. The roof vent is a long, narrow rectangular opening that runs the length of the house that has a special kind of cap on it that lets the hot air out but is waterproof. It's a very efficient way to let heat out, just like lifting the lid on a pot, as the heat rises to the top of the roof. Depending on a number of variables, including the vents underneath the roof, this should mean that the attic stays cooler in full sun. Lastly, the final bill was the same as the estimate. That's a first. The workers cleaned up at the end of each day. Roof looks great. You can have him add insulation to your attic, as well. Recommended! read more

I recently purchased a home in Vallejo. The first rain of Fall revealed leaking around my water heater and furnace pipes. I sent a message to A Better Roofing Company on November 14th.
