I had some work done w/ a bathroom exhaust fan in early December where we had to penetrate the roof before the actual roof replacement. George offered to seal the roof at no extra charge - as he was looking out for those of us waiting for us to get our roof replaced, specially with the heavy rains that are incoming! One of George's customer had an emergency and to move their dates later, and he was able to move up my schedule to December! I had a very old roof, and George and team ensured any dry rot was taken care of! He also ensured I had the standard plywood by code (previous plywood on my roof was only 1/8"). I just had my roof redone by George and his crew and I couldn't be happier. I never told George this, but my dad was a meticulous woodworker who trained in Japan, so my bar for vetting a contractor is pretty high. For example, as a kid, I helped frame the house I grew up in and 20+ years later, I helped my dad reroof our house. In any case ... here's what I did during my vetting process. It seems there are two types of roofing companies on yelp. Big companies with multiple work crews and small companies with one or two work crews. I got four quotes, 2 from big companies, 2 from smaller companies including 1 from George. George's quote wasn't the lowest, but it was WAY lower than the quotes I got from the 2 big companies. Here's what the experience was like. Highly-rated big company: An administrative assistant called me back. SOS Roofing: George, the owner of the company, called me back. Highly-rated big company: A rep shows up at my house and tries to fly a drone over my one-story house to take pictures, but can't figure out how to start it. He then takes a ladder out of his truck but has difficulty closing the roll-up bed cover and starts slamming it. When he finally gets up on the roof with his tablet, he precariously leans over the edge to see if there are two layers of shingles after I tell him there are two layers. (I have visions of him sliding head first off my roof.) Afterwards I let him inside to inspect the attic to see if I have two layers of shingles. Apparently he thought he had x-ray vision, but I was amused and wanted to see what he would say. Afterwards, he tried to convince me to get rid of my solar panels. He also tried to convince me that his company could reframe my skylights and I could just reinstall the current skylights and save some money. SOS Roofing: A few days later George showed up and calmly asked about my roof and what I wanted. He expertly climbed his ladder onto my roof with just a pencil, tape measure, and notepad. I told him about the two layers of shingles and he took the time to climb back down, carefully reposition his ladder, and inspect the edge of the shingles from his ladder. He noted our skylights were not to code and told us a reasonable way he could replace them. After we selected SOS Roofing, George continued to communicate with us regularly in a professional and respectful way. His emails, phone calls, and all our conversations were conducted in a way that showed he really cared about the quality of his work. If you want to pay a premium to one of the bigger companies so they can cover their overhead such as hiring an administrative assistant, buying drones and tablets, and sending over reps who don't comport themselves with care, then feel free to do so. But if you want to hire someone who does everything with care, definitely go with SOS roofing. read more

During the crazy round of storms we had I'm so grateful to have found George who provided great and fast service when we had a leak coming into the house. He gave my husband advice on how to help the situation since he couldn't get there that day (totally understandable). We Needed a roof. Okay, that is an understatement. We desperately needed a roof. We called 7 different roofing companies here in Concord, and got estimates. George Padillia of SOS roofing was the most informative, gave us the most choices of roofing options and (miracle of miracles) Gave us the lowest estimate. I had my roof replaced last year by George and his team. He was incredibly professional from start to finish and even came out faster than anyone else I called for quotes. I felt the most confident in his ability to do the job well out of everyone else. I had him replace the roof and add gutters. Him and his team did it in the time quoted, and they fixed up the dry rot without issues too, preserving as much of the original wood as possible. We had had a leaky roof for eight years, ever since we did some home renovations and extended the roofline out in front. The leak was in the garage, so it was not as problematic as if it had gone into the living room, but it was a pain. He used a material called Karnac to get up and seal all of the possible areas that could have been causing our leak. True confession is that the first thing he did was to remove all of my amateur efforts to stop the leaking. The real issue in California is that you only know about leaking roofs when it rains, which is sadly not very often. Six years ago we decided to replace our roof. I asked around and my co-worker told me about SOS Roofing. I gave them a call and worked with George. He took care of everything from helping us pick the roof materials to getting the job done. The crew came in and quickly removed our old roof and installed the new one without any hitches. They even boarded up an opening that we didn't know about and changed out some weathered plywood. Best of all, they cleaned up after themselves. I was very satisfied and have had no problems with the roof since. Fast forward to today when we are planning to sell our home. The skirts beneath a couple of windows and a skylight have pulled up a little. This isn't a functional problem for the roof, but it looks a little strange. Our realtor referred us to another roofer to get a quote to fix this and it came in at over $300! I called George and told him he we were going to sell the home.
