I called Medquest on a Friday evening, and they were at the rehab hospital Sunday afternoon- 10 minutes early. The care,professionalism, and respect they showed my mom were truly outstanding. The vehicle was spotless, the equipment looked brand new, and their electrical stair chair climber got her safely into her home without any stress or discomfort. I would NEVER recommend Cali Van Medical Transportation! I had a scheduled procedure that required…read moreanesthesia, and I would need a driver to get me home. I contacted Cali Van and spoke with Nick. I explained the situation and my needs, as I would need no special equipment. I was informed that this is a common service they provide. This conversation took place on a Monday, and the upcoming Thursday was the day of the procedure. I was also told I just needed to give the company information to the medical staff so they would know who would be picking me up, and they would be able to coordinate the discharge time with their arrival. I used ride share to get to the procedure location. I gave the contact information to the nurse, who told me my transportation would need to be confirmed before the procedure could even begin. I was later informed they were not able to connect with anyone at Cali Van, and the voicemail was full. I then started calling and had the same result; no answer, and the voicemail was full. I'm now starting to panic because I had prepared for the procedure, and I had confirmed with Nick the date and time of my transportation need. Fortunately, I was able to find someone else to pick me up after the procedure. It's been approximately 3 weeks since this happened, and neither Nick nor anyone else from Cali Van has attempted to contact me to acknowledge their failure to be available for my scheduled pickup after a medical procedure. The lack of professionalism from Cali Van was unacceptable, stressful, and inexcusable for a company that is working with people in sensitive medical situations. Who just ignores a confirmed medical transportation appointment pickup? Cali Van Medical Transportation does!

Because of her narrow staircase which has a 90-degree turn to get upstairs to her bedroom, we HAD to have a "stair chair." I called several companies until I found Cali Van. They had the specialized chair and it worked beautifully. The driver sent out, Jasur (sp?), was kind, efficient, considerate, and cared about my mom. Mom (95 yrs old) had a fractured leg and had to be handled very carefully to avoid any unnecessary pain and Jasur treated her with kid gloves. The price was more than reasonable. They were on time (actually early!). With all the stress associated getting Mom home & coordinating all the other services, Cali Van was the ONLY ONE that performed seamlessly and didn't add to my stress level. I'm extremely grateful to have found them and recommend them highly.

A significant, and common, part of her hospice care would entail administering meds, and we inquired about this directly over the phone. We were assured that this was a service that Home Instead provided, and we moved forward with scheduling an in-home assessment. At the appointment, the service professional said that they, in fact, do not administer meds. I would have hoped that an agency that provides care during such vulnerable times would be direct and sensitive in answering questions related to caregiving before moving forward with services. The misleading information presented to us over the phone has resulted in wasted time and further delays in securing care for my grandmother. I sincerely hope that this review is considered and practices are refined to better inform potential clients, holding more respect and awareness of the stress, time, and emotional energy required to secure care at end of life. This could have been avoided had our direct questions over the phone been answered accurately. The unnecessary time spent at the at home assessment would have been better used enjoying the precious moments remaining with my grandmother.

My mom needed to go to the ER. I had called the paramedics, but they explained that although her situation wasn't considered an "emergency," she still needed to see a doctor. My mom is non-mobile, nonverbal, and has dementia, so finding transportation was extremely difficult. I contacted her insurance, but unfortunately, they did not cover non-emergency transportation. Kaiser provided me with a few nonprofit organizations that assist seniors, but unfortunately, none of them were able to help. I started calling private transportation companies, but because it was a Sunday, no one was available. I was desperately searching for someone who could help us. I was completely overwhelmed, stressed, and honestly, I was about to cry from frustration. Then, thankfully, I found Rami Cohen through a private transportation company. Rami listened to my situation and referred me to Delia at Golden Heart. I called Delia and explained what I needed. Without hesitation, she was already on her way to meet me and my mom. She was truly a Godsend. Delia picked us up, took my mom to the ER, and then came back about 4 hours later to pick us up and take us safely home.
