Kristen is a wonderful baker and I have tried her baked goodies for many years and it was so nice to see the array of desserts at this Valentines pop up downtown. The colorful cakes, cookies, layered puddings and candies are just so pretty and tasty. It's hard to not buy it all! I bought the cake pop, do it yourself cookies with edible icing, lilikoi layered pudding cake, Oreo layered pudding cake and mini cheesecake. The desserts are light but rich with flavor. I was lucky because the bakery already had the design I wanted for my daughter's cake. The process to place my order was easy and they got back to me right away for payment. The cake flavor was strawberries and cream, and it was absolutely delicious! Not only was my daughter happy about the design, she enjoyed the flavor of her cake. Unfortunately, our experience was very different from the positive reviews we had read. Kristin was wonderful and provided excellent customer service throughout the process. The cake itself also looked beautiful and exceeded our expectations visually. However, the quality of the cake did not match its appearance or price. We spent approximately $730 on our wedding cake for our daughter, and unfortunately, the cake layers were extremely dense and dry. Not a single guest at our table finished their piece, and many commented on the texture. What should have been a highlight of our celebration ended up being disappointing and somewhat embarrassing. After the event, I contacted A Cake Life to share our experience. While they did apologize, there was no effort to address the issue beyond that, which left us feeling that they do not stand behind their product. For a cake costing $730, I expected something exceptional. Instead, I would rate the cake itself a 2 out of 10. It looked amazing, but the taste and texture were far below expectations. Quite honestly, it felt like I was eating dry, stale bread covered with frosting. Based on our experience, I cannot recommend A Cake Life. read more

Their service is amazing! We booked with Kristin for our wedding and she did not disappoint. Not only is she very prompt with communication but her desserts are very aesthetic and yummy! At first glance, you might be in a bit of sticker shock when you see the prices on the menu. However, the attention to detail and communication from this business is totally worth it. I have dealt with many businesses who are unresponsive or curt with their responses to inquiries, but this one was very quick to text back, very professional, and the appearance of the cake was just beautiful! I got my husband a birthday cake and he was so touched. He helped me pick it out and he loves flowers. His favorite flavor of anything is strawberry, so the strawberry filling was perfect. The roses and gold flecks were so perfectly crafted and the letters were gum paste which he enjoyed eating as well. I also got a sugar cookie which was very pretty and tasted ok. The cake bento was fun and I got to try a bunch of flavors. Top 2 were the devil's food with peanut butter and the red velvet with cream cheese. Pickup was super fast and easy, just text them and they came right out! Great service, great experience. read more

Our wedding cake & cupcakes were done beautifully & were delicious! However, I have to knock down 2 stars due to Kristin Kato's unprofessionalism during the process of ordering it. After carefully picking out the design & flavors of our cake & cupcake, I submitted an order request in October 2022. My then fiancé & I were out of state, & our parents kindly agreed to give her the moneys for the order on our behalf. I stated that the payment should be paid in full by the end of November 2022. Long story short - a slew of personal life events happened, & I was not notified that the payment was not received. My Aunt/Wedding Coordinator followed up in the beginning of January 2023. My cousins were meaning to add some surprises to my order as their wedding gift to us. However, Kristin was unfortunately snide in her replies. I understand that she never got the payment, but there was no form of follow up whatsoever until my Aunt inquired. After convincing Kristin to not increase the delivery fee (per website it's $50), we finally paid the invoice in full. So, "thanks" Kristin for not only being rude and incapable of decent communication, but also ruining the surprise. It's a shame knowing that you were so sweet & easy to work with in the beginning.Oh well, everyone was happy on our wedding day. For those of you reading my experience, I just want to clarify that I still recommend A Cake Life to cater your cake, cupcakes, & other sweets for your special event. However, I would not recommend doing business personally/directly with Kristin Kato. read more

Where do you go for someone special who has tried all the cake shops on the island? Upon the recommendation of a friend we decided to try this tiny shop located across Old Stadium Park opposite from Kozo Sushi. 5 stars for the cake which was a foot high? Nicely decorated enough, the cake itself was just the right texture and density. I'm not usually a huge fan of vanilla cake but the baker does such a good job that I ate it all up and wanted more. But my waistline advised me against it. The frosting was also good and again I'm not usually a fan but this one was smooth and not too sweet, nicely complementing the cake. We didn't order anything fancy, but looking at the website it looks like they do amazing decorations!! Not cheap but you get what you pay for! Quality! I want to minus half a star for lack of convenience but I guess it's owner operated so the hours are limited. I was instructed to pick up my cake at 9:00 sharp before the delivery guy left. Recommend this place if you want something special! Oops! We were rushing and I forgot to take a good photo of the cake ! read more

Kristin and her team did a great job with our daughter's Barbie cake. We're vacationing here in Oahu and wanted a cake to go with the party's theme. Contacting the bakery, choosing flavors (fresh strawberries in the filling is highly recommended), and scheduling delivery were all easy to do. The cake was spotless and tasted SO good. I visited Hawaii for my birthday and brought along 18 guests. I chose to have a small gathering just before the luau and wanted a tasty and pretty cake to celebrate. Cake works had the best reviews as well as the type of cakes that were aesthetically pleasing, so I gave them a chance. I'm SO glad I did!! The delivery was smooth and easy. The cake was well protected and remained in tact while we celebrated and sang. What a beautiful cake! WOW! Best of all, it was DELICIOUS!!! Initially I was only going to provide the dessert that came with our venue package, but I saw A Cake Life had a few different wedding dessert options and that they can deliver to our venue. We worked with Kristin who was so helpful in answering our questions and making sure everything was perfect. I could not be happier with how our dessert table came out and it was a huge hit with our guests! We went with cupcakes, donuts, and rice crispies and they were delicious! I contacted A Cake Life approximately one month before the date of my good friend's wedding to order a custom wedding cake as a surprise. This company was very accommodating and very detailed in their response. I really appreciated that their initial email back anticipated all of my questions and provided links with photo examples of the different cakes provided. We ultimately choose a pre-designed cake but requested white dendrobiums as a flower accent and they were able to adjust the flowers as we requested. Cake itself was absolutely beautiful, just as pictured. The filling was light and true to the strawberry flavor. Remind me a little of the Asian fruitcakes that my friend and I grew up with and love. Our whole party was very satisfied with this cake. We did get the 8-in size and had leftovers for our 16-person group. If I ever needed a custom cake in the future in the Honolulu area, I would definitely reach out to A Cake Life! read more

Getting the customized desert bar was easy and stress-free (which was very helpful for the busy bride!). A Cake Life provided timely responses and a professional experience. Only thing keeping me from giving a 5-star review is that we dropped off a check to pay the down payment to them, but they initially forgot to cash it. Had to go down with a new one since the original had expired. But the staff was apologetic about it and we understand that it is a very busy time for wedding vendors. Wanted a cake for my hub's Yakudoshi. I'm not a dessert person so am probably a pain since I don't understand cake/dessert talk. Kristin and Gina, and everyone else I may have had to deal with, were very patient with me and accommodating. Due to covid, didn't want a cake that was exposed to everyone else, and since we split the families into 2 different parties, couldn't have a half cut cake for the 2nd party. They made me a deer head topper, and then my last minute decision was to add on cake cups. Everyone was really impressed with the topper and loved the cake cups. I had some of chocolate cake one and it wasn't overly sweet, and was soft and I ate much more than anticipated. We have yet to bust into the deer head. Location was really convenient in that little food strip mall like place that has Kozo, Golden Eagle, Sweet Home (I think they are still there) and L&L. At normal times the parking lot gets crowded, but on a Saturday morning, it was very easy to get in and out. Excellent customer service, location, and product...I've found my new go to place for fancy cakes! read more

I think Doc would enjoy this drink. This shop is a working bakery. Many yummy pastries displayed. Menu is posted high up above to choose from. Rather tiny shop with room for customers to stand in line to order and wait for drinks. Clean, busy with a few tables and chairs outside but pretty much in direct sun.

A specialty coffee shop charging a premium for its coffee should be willing to stand behind the drink it serves and make a reasonable effort to correct something a customer is unhappy with. The combination of the poorly made drink and dismissive service made this a particularly disappointing visit.

I really wanted to write this review because as I was trying to read reviews online to select a company to make my wedding cake I was feeling super uneasy. The reviews of almost all companies in the area were very mixed and from extreme satisfaction to complete disappointment. I was flying in for my destination wedding so I knew I wouldn't have a tasting and that I'd just have to hope for the best. The first time I saw the cake was at my reception when it was brought out to be cut. My first impression was that it was perfect! It was exactly what we discussed through email and absolutely met my expectations. It was beautiful. Then once it was cut and served I was again so impressed. The cake was so fresh and delicious! My guests loved it and my one bridesmaid said "thanks for serving the first edible wedding cake I've ever eaten!" The feedback I got over and over was that they were impressed that it wasn't just pretty to look at but was also so delicious to eat. They made everything super easy and were all so sweet and took notes on every aspect that I was looking for in my wedding cake. Jack and I eloped to Hawaii while he was there working and we had all of his crew come to celebrate with us so we needed a cake but wanted island flavors, and they hit it out of the park for me! They always were quick to respond to emails, since there is a 6 hour time difference for us, they always had a smile, were so sweet when dealing with this stressed bride lol. Kristin was great to work with! She did a great job with designing the cake exactly how I envisioned it. Our cake looked amazing but we felt that our cake was not tasteful. During the cutting of our cake, my husband and I had a hard time trying to cut through the fondant so we just had a big piece of fondant. When we finally had a chance to bite into the cake we were pretty disappointed about it being so dry and crumbly. By far the easiest vendor to work with. I came to Kristin with some vague ideas and she quickly turned into the perfect design. When asked about cake toppers, my partner and I said we hadn't really thought about it, but maybe we could work pineapples into the design, since it was a common motif in our wedding? So I asked about it and was given the name of the baker and her company. Since that date, I've ordered cakes from her twice. Both cakes were the Mont Blanc chestnut flavor. Hitomi (Owner and Baker) informs me she has other flavors indicating the local folk in Honolulu like her Mango and Passion Fruit flavors. I will try one of those flavors next time I have an occasion to purchase a special cake. As a side bar I learn Hitomi has a store located in the Marco Polo where other baked items are available for purchase. The store has restricted hours so I've yet to get a schedule to stop in however, it is on my hit list for next time I need special gifts. Her store is located in the Marco Polo condominium on Kapiolani Blvd. A definite must try if you haven't already. The cake runs about $50. But a infamous local pies run about $40. Both good, both in a similar price range but entire different styles of baking and flavor...

Cakes were beautiful and were clean. The hello kitty cake was a Red velvet with cream cheese frosting, this was delish,cake was moist and was a hit. The Mario Bros cake was chocolate with butter cream icing, the cake was a bit dry but and the decos were falling before the party started, so now I know not to go with this type is frosting. But the decoration on this one was so nice my son did not want to cut into it. A few days later by the request of coworkers I ordered another cake for a surprise for my commander, all I told Rowena was make the cake into the rank. Everyone at my work were very impressed, it turned out beatiful. The cake was a vanilla cake which btw was perfect with fresh strawberries inbetween the layers. The frosting sweetness was perfect! This cake was gone in just a few mins because everyone wanted more than seconds.

We tried lilikoi cream, guava cream, Madagascar vanilla, and chocolate hazelnut. Let me say, it was a hard choice to make but we ended up picking chocolate hazelnut and lilikoi cream. Both flavors were a hit at the party. Cristi was just amazing to work with. Being able to make a full sheet with 2 flavors and the most beautiful cake decorations inspired by just the invitation.
