If you've spent any time around International Market Place, you've probably seen the line at Kona Coffee. There's always a line, and with all the hype on IG, we finally decided to give it a try and brave the wait. We ordered the sesame latte, drip coffee, iced coffee, and hibiscus tea. TBH... it was just okayyy. Everything was good, but I'm not sure it was good enough that I'd personally want to wait in that long of a line for it. I got the sesame latte and, honestly, it was a little meh. I was expecting more of that sesame flavor, but I didn't really taste it. Others in our group felt the coffee was a little sour for their liking. That said, it could just be our personal coffee preferences/taste buds. This is a popular breakfast spot, so expect a long line in the mornings. The wait can be a bit much, but once you get your food, it's easy to see why people keep coming back. Being born and raised here I've never once heard this place pop up in any conversation as a "hot spot" or a "must" for coffee or pastries. Came here on a Saturday afternoon with my wife around 1:20PM. We walked right in, ordered a drink, and even grabbed a table to relax from all the craziness of Waikiki. I ended up getting a latte, black sesame kouign amann, and pandan coconut tapioca pudding. My favorite was the pandan coconut tapioca pudding which was delightfully light and not too sweet dessert. Black sesame kouign amann: A twist on the classic kouign amann. A beautiful blend of crunchy and soft. The black sesame filling adds a nice flavor. Pandan coconut tapioca pudding: Pandan pudding, coconut tapioca, topped with coconut macaroon. This seems to be a seasonal/limited item. Their desserts are from b patisserie, and they all looked soo enticing and pretty! It was a bit on the sweeter side so I'd recommend asking for less if you don't like sweet drinks. Good things come to those who wait. I only wish there were more people here specifically waiting for the coffee because it was absolutely delicious! Sadly, it seemed more folks were there for the pastries though. First off, I'm surprised I found such a fabulous cup of coffee in what feels like the epicenter of tourist life on this island. While visiting another island nearly establishment had signage stating they served Kona and/or Hawaiian coffee, but nearly every establishment's coffee was absolutely awful. Seeing the location I fully expected them to phone in the coffee, but it's clear that coffee comes first here, even if many of the guests are trying to get pastries! You'll be shocked by the line, but just know the staff is efficient and it moves fast. They offer a variety of their own locally roasted beans here, with options for batch brew, espresso drinks and even pour overs (impressive considering the volume of customers). The coffees are well described and the baristas have the additional knowledge you may be seeking when you order, and all in all this went as quickly as I could have expected. Truly, the coffee was delightful, and the fact I was drinking a hot drink on an extremely hot day didn't even phase me. I wanted so badly to bring home a bag of each one, but given that everything is more expensive in Hawaii, these were all 4x the price of the specialty coffee I buy on the mainland and I just couldn't make it happen. The plain is delicious, the sesame is chef's kiss ! The nuttiness helps balance the sweetness. We also tried their banana almond croissant which was soo delicious and unique. Got a lil messy but worth it. Very simple and yummy croissant. I would pass on their cookies and Madeline's. We got 3 boxes of all of the pastries, one of each, and all of them are good, flaky and fresh. Kouign tasted good and flaky, just like croissant but in a different shape, like a muffin croissant. People start lining up as early as 6:30 a.m. for the 7:00 a.m. opening, and while they can run out of pastries during the morning rush, the crowd thins out significantly after 10:00 a.m. through closing at 4:00 p.m. I didn't expect to enjoy this place as much as I did, but I ended up going back more than three times during the trip. The black sesame latte was a first for me, and now it's something I'd order again without hesitation. As for the pastries easily the highlight. The Black Sesame Kougin Amman was unforgettable;flaky, buttery, and perfectly sweet. It's the kind of pastry that sets a new standard, and honestly, it'll be hard to top. Came here at 6:40am and coffee shop opens at 7am line was not bad yet,it definitely got busier the later it gets. There are two lines one to order coffee and pastries and there is a second line to pick up coffee beans and merchandise but you can also order your coffee and pastries(this is usually the quickest). I went to just order pastries and coffee took me about 20 mins to order and another 20 mins to pick up your order. There are seating outside if you'd like to sit enjoy your cofffee and pastries. We ordered vanilla iced latte and flat white. Coffee was good nothing special. Pastries however is so good. They are known for their kouign amann. We got strawberry guava,original,chocolate and of course black sesame.Love them all crispy,airy texture. I'd come back for thr pastries forsure. A bit pricey in my opinion $46 for 2 coffee and 4 pasties (not big portions). read more

I love this spot. It's the best coffee I've had in my life and I live in Austin, TX which has incredibly good coffee. 8 days in Hawaii and we went out of our way to get this almost every day. The tartines were also good but the wait for it was 20+ minutes due to only one person making these. Nice to know. - The line is long but it's worth the wait for coffee and pastry snobs. - The pastries are irresistibly good. 2 stars for Kona Coffee. Honestly, I found it overrated. I waited 20 minutes in line only to get burnt shots, and they poured it right in front of me like it was some kind of masterpiece. The hype definitely didn't live up to reality. That said, the pastries are cool, fresh and nicely made--so there's a silver lining. Place don't open til 7 am, I got here at 639 am and there's 7 people ahead of me already. The pastries are really good. I like the banana chocolate croissant a lot. I would go back just for that and I don't live in Hawaii. The coffee is not so good. It tasted watered down and bland. The line moves in a timely fashion. Staff are good. Came here around 9:30am on a Wednesday morning and line was already long but they still had good amount of their pasties. I only got the chocolate banana almond croissant and it was so yummy. It had real bananas in it and wasn't too sweet. My kids loved it too! I also got their honey oatmilk latte and it was OK. maybe a bit water down for me so i'll give that 5/10.
