Over two years of pandemic hair growth - my hair was LONG. I had gotten so annoyed at one point that I pulled out the kitchen scissors and cut it myself. YouTube tutorials saved my sanity. It looked good when I fixed it - four or 5 times a month but the rest of the time - it was up in a ponytail. I needed help. Enter the incredible talents of Carter Lund. I came in with a few inspiration photos that were a DRASTIC change. Carter checked in with me a couple times to be sure - then he pulled my hair back and chopped it right off. He added a few highlights and put me under the hood to process. As I sat and scrolled on my phone, I listened as he interacted with a new client. He truly listened to what she was saying, asked for clarification, explained to her why her hair looked thin as it grew out (her complaint) and the best way to cut her hair to fix that. She was getting color so he finished with her and it was my turn. His shampoo/head/neck massages could be offered as a stand alone service. I could have just melted into the chair. Back to the haircut...I think some people were born with an ability to know how to fix their hair. I am NOT that person - by any stretch of the imagination. Carter showed me the products he used and explained what he was doing. What good is a great haircut if you can't make it look like it's supposed to? Thanks to Carter - I can! I love my new haircut!! It looks like I actually put in effort (rather than just being in a ponytail) and it is SO easy to fix. I highly recommend both Carter and Charlie at this salon. Carter is amazing, I get stopped all the time by people asking who cuts my hair and does my color. I love red in my hair and the coppers and other shades he blends in are always beautiful, the first time I went in Carter took the time to find out what I liked what I didn't like and showed me what worked with my skin tone and features. No one I had been to had done that before. Carter travels around the country teaching other professionals how to cut and color. OK, I feel like a compete moron (no change). They do provide haircuts for MEN. I had my hair cut there yesterday and it started our with a warm towel on my face and a hand massage by a cute young lady. (Mrs.) Charlie cut my hair and she's so gentle that I almost fell asleep. She has a great sense of humor and can talk about anything. She also mentioned that they do WAXING (don't go there) and I had my eyebrows done too. I've been going to a cheap and fast place but I'd forgotten what it's like to be serviced by a real salon professional. Just moved here from Illinois and was dreading finding a new hairdresser. A new acquaintance with great hair referred Carter to me and boy did I hit pay dirt! My hair was dry and just a mess from not being cut or colored in awhile and I was desperate for help. I basically just told Carter do whatever you can and he went to work! So I'm giving this place five stars because of my stylist, Tamara!! She is awesome, I've followed her all over north Austin for years. She is very accessible, prices are reasonable, and she cuts my husband's and son's hair too. My son loves the snacks, and she always has a little goodie for him when he's done. :) As for the salon, it used to be called Katz and many of the stylists have been there for years, some since it opened. Last year, Carter and his wife Charlie bought the place, and I think almost everyone has stayed. They have done a lot of updating so it lost some of it's homey feel, but the modern look works too. Absolutely amazing!!! My hair turned out orange from a hair coloring gone terribly wrong, and Charlie did magic to make it look amazong! I remember finding Yelp almost 10 years ago when I was planning a trip to San Francisco. I have continued to use it, but have never taken the time to write a review. After my time with Carter and his wife, Charlie, I had to break my silence. First, my schedule is difficult but Carter accommodated me. I had the opportunity to meet his team before they left and see happy folks leaving the salon. Carter talked with me about what I wanted. I have had long hair for a while, and was thinking of a change after seeing Carter's Facebook page. He gave me great advice on length and why I shouldn't cut bangs due to my chin shape. He explained that skin tone and hair color matter. After the shampoo and cut, Charlie gave me some new tips on my makeup. They didn't leave the salon until almost 9:00. I left feeling amazing! People love the change. Sexy and sassy are a few of the comments. Most importantly, it's really easy to fix. How many times do you get a haircut and can't duplicate the look at home?? The color didn't wash down my shower drain for weeks like in the past. And ladies, does your hair grow out fast? Finally found the salon I've been looking for since I moved to Austin 12 years ago. I used to go to a salon in PA that only used Framesi. When I moved here I couldn't find a place until recently when I decided to do a Google search. Not only is my color gorgeous but the cut is the best I've ever had. Carter T. pays attention to detail and gives amazing service. If you get a six week color that will give you a root touch up in between for free! His wife, Charlie is just as amazing! Lost my hairdresser of 5+ years. First went to a recommendation and walked out with a shag. Seriously, when I looked in the mirror I thought shag and not layers. I waited for it to grow out and made an appointment with Carter T. Lund. He called me to confirm my appointment and promised that I would walk out more beautiful than when I walked in. I found Carter T Lund salon by referral and I am so glad my friend had the good sense to tell me about them (Charlie and Carter). I had been driving all the way to Gruene Texas to get my hair cut, so needless to say, I must have some hard to manage hair. Charlie is one of the few hairstylist who is excited to give me advice on my hair and goes out of her way to find product and techniques that I can use to tame my curls-- I guess I should say, "embrace" my curls!
