Cat Clinic has helped us for over 12 years. We were fortunate to have a Siamese that lived to be 22 and all of the veterinarians and staff partnered with us every step of the way. Their care and interest is genuine...it's almost as if each cat is theirs. The clinic caught a kidney issue when our cat was 15, and through their intervention, our cat THRIVED until she was 22. There were smaller, natural cat-health issues along the way and each was met with seriousness and a quality of care I only wish humans could get. When our cat approached the end of life, we really felt like our loss was shared by each amazing person at the clinic. They were compassionate, caring and even called independently to check on all of us. When we lost of beloved female matriarch, we even received one of the most heart-felt notes written by Dr Dale and signed by all...we treasure this letter! Since then we now have 3 new Siamese cats and the quality of care is just as strong. During a routine kitten exam, the clinic detected an extremely rare heart condition in one of the cats. Through timely intervention, we were able to coordinate with a feline cardiologist and develop a care plan that has helped this cat live beyond her short life expectancy. She is now 18 months an thriving. Having 3 cats now has shown us also that their care is specific and focused on individual cats...we have never felt like each cat was treated the same. I can't even begin to describe how special the Cat Clinic is to my family. They took care of my sweet boy Rockford for 2 to 3 years before he passed away in December 2019. His health declined dramatically in just one month. I had many worried calls and emails with the Clinic staff each week as something new would happen to him and I found myself unsure of what to do. They were all very understanding, compassionate, and caring towards Rockford. It sometimes seems like their knowledge and determination to help us is endless. All the vets there were ready with one more thing we could try to make our baby more comfortable. They were constantly educating us so we can be better pet parents. I learned a lot about cats I couldn't have found on my own. When the time finally did come when we knew we had to say goodbye they helped us through that as well. They take care of our newer family member Frankie with the same care they've always shown us. I can leave Frankie there for a week in boarding while on vacation without worrying because I know they'll take great care of him. I have been a client here for 10 years (3 cats ago!), even after moving an hour away, and I would give any of the vets and techs here my highest recommendation, for anything from boarding to dental care to surgery to diabetes to urgent freak-outs. They are all smart, sweet, thorough, professional, compassionate, understanding, and accommodating, and the clinic and grounds are beautiful. Almost three years ago my precious baby, my soul mate, my beautiful kitty was diagnosed with renal failure at the age of only 12. She went downhill quickly, her prognosis was grim (6 months) and our family was devastated. Our original vet let us down. I did thorough research and had gone through 5 (!) different vets before I found A Cat Clinic and Dr. Dale Rubenstein. I'm so glad I did! My baby is alive and doing well. She's a shiny, playful, happy kitty. Looking at her nobody would've thought she's sick. Credits for it go to Dr. Dale, bless her. We went through other serious health problems during these years: a tumor, a seizure, a heart condition... Dr. Dale has been on top of everything. She is a great professional. She's also well connected and always ready to refer to a specialist (Internist, Cardiologist, Oncologist) when it's warranted. I can be a pain as a customer when it comes to my children, and it includes my cat. Dr. Dale has been always patient, understanding and gentle, willing to listen to my concerns and consider my opinion. The Clinic is very neat, peaceful and great for nervous kitties. I have to drive 30 mins to get there, but it's well worth it. A word of advice to fellow cat people: vets are not magicians. You are the one who knows your cat best. You are her/his advocate, do your homework and communicate with the vet. You are also the one who will be doing the routine: pills, shots etc. It's a lot of work to keep a sick kitty going and it's not cheap, unfortunately (getting Pet Insurance may be helpful). But your precious kitty's life is worth the efforts. For all devoted Cat Ladies and Cat Gentlemen - I highly recommend Dr. Dale Rubenstein and A Cat Clinic. This clinic is by far the best place to take your cat. My cat gypsy has been sick for over 2 months, I took her to another vet and she did not get better. The vet at a cat clinic was able to figure out what was wrong with her and was super supportive. I never going to use their service again. I was willing to shell out more money for this "cat specialized" clinic thinking they would know better, well, they don't. That Mon I saw Dr. Mustillo, my cat was at the point of straining but still urinating. Few days later he was blocked. I had spend excruciating hours in emergency room on Sun night, so they could extract urine from my kitty, in order to hold him over until I could get him to a regular vet office, as I didn't feel comfortable having his surgery there. I spent sleepless night and the first thing in the morning, called the clinic. Receptionist's answer to my explanation of emergency situation was, "Dr won't come into the office until an hour later..." What I'm angry about the most is that on my last visit, the vet administered potent antibiotic w/o any explanation to me whatsoever. It wasn't until a week later I found out that it's something that stays in cat's system for 2 weeks!!! First of all, I would have never authorized it if I knew it was so potent and therefore carried a huge risk! (btw, my cat's urine culture came back negative so he never needed it anyway - which make me even more upset) Plus if such thing is administered, isn't it a common sense to tell the owner of all the information regarding the shot, including the risk and side effects invovled???Especially if they think there's a possibility of my cat having a surgery and if surgery is done elsewhere? Thankfully the vet at the other office who did the surgery opted not to administer the antibiotic, but if she did, my cat would have had another dose while still being on the other one - all b/c the vet at this office failed to tell me what was absolutely critical and necessary information. I don't trust vets who doesn't care enough to go through such information with owners and are not being transparent about why they are doing what. My trust for this place has been completely broken and I no longer feel comfortable taking my precious kitty here. I did appreciate Dr. Rubenstein taking the time to listen to my complaint and taking the time to provide explanation for other vet's actions, but the fact they have place my cat in danger even once, is not something I would ever forget. read more

I went through many vets before I ended up at A Cat Clinic (ACC). Most were good enough at general care, but I never felt like they connected with us. They were commercial enterprises: check the boxes, move 'em out, who's next? So, as Cat aged and started having problems, I began looking for a vet who I could trust as a more involved caregiver. The first 2 I tried were proficient with cats and adequately treated symptoms (kidney and thyroid). When Cat declined, though, they both (separately, at different times) shrugged and said "She's 18, she's old, that's what happens." My intuition told me otherwise, so I kept looking, and eventually found ACC. Dr. Dale Rubenstein and her team are simply amazing. She was the first vet we met, of several over the years, who I felt really cared about Cat, who took significant time and energy to really look at Cat's history and condition, and to consider from multiple perspectives what was best for her. She also put herself in my shoes and talked about what would be best for me as Cat's caregiver. She put Cat through a thorough round of testing, and immediately put her on fluids and new meds. She also gave me comprehensive write-ups of her findings and recommendations. Cat rebounded so rapidly and well that we were both amazed. Dr. Dale stayed in regular touch over email (judging by the time stamps on email and the office's hours, a 14-hour day seems not terribly unusual for her.) Her practice also kept in touch, and was assertive about getting Cat in for regular check-ups. Everyone in the office really knows how to relate to cats, and their patients are clearly understood, respected and loved. Although Cat was usully a hellion in the (very cozy) office, she was always handled with gentleness, care and competence. Unfortunately, Cat later developed cancer. By the time it was diagnosed, treatment options were limited. The next steps were challenging; I struggled about what to do. But Dr. Dale was an invaluable advisor. She found a balance between giving advice and exploring options, so that in the end, I felt like I made the best choice I could out of a range of options where there was no right answer, and no good outcome. I also felt like I had a strong expert supporter behind me. She was very proactive about dealing with specialists and medications. I never got the sense in any way (like I did with other vets) that she was just shrugging and giving up, or didn't care. At the end, Dr. Rubenstein was returning from travel, so we played phone tag for a few hours . By the time we connected, she had already re-arranged her schedule so that she could come to the house and take care of my girl. So, Cat and I got to share our last moments together at home. Another staff member came along to help. I cannot adequately convey how kind and respectful they both were. A week after Cat crossed the rainbow bridge, I received a card signed by everyone in the practice. And a few days later, I got a thoughtful card from Dr. Dale that clearly took time and care to write, along with a locket of Cat's fur. Before I found ACC, I despaired that veterinary care is rapidly becoming what human medicine has turned in to - a machine of efficiency where diagnostics are the perfunctory engine of a massive system designed to maximize profit by churning through as many bodies as quickly as possible. Of course every vet has a practice to run; they have to balance the needs of all their patients, find a way to cover all their services, and earn a living. Some do it better than others. This one goes far above and beyond. My advocacy of ACC is not blind. Compared to some, this practice might be more expensive (and let's face it, if your cat is geriatric, you're gonna be shelling out bucks regardless.) The location is not exactly central, though it's well worth the cost and the hike. And no office is perfect; I don't know of a single vet practice whose staff hasn't at some point made a mistake that impacted my time or wallet. Which is understandable- as in any medical office, they get the daily joy of dealing with all manner of beasts when they are not necessarily at their best. All said, I am a fan of Dr. Dale's and the ACC staff for life. My cats will always call ACC home. At the end of the day, they truly love cats, and they recognize that (most) owners have deep relationships with their felines. That love and understanding comes through in all their work. I couldn't have hoped for better than how Dr. Dale cared for Cat... nor, at the end, how she and the staff showed up and took care of us both. I would hope other vets go to similar lengths to care for their patients and owners, but so far, I've sadly not heard or experienced that to be true. A Cat Clinic saved my dying kitten! A few weeks ago my neighbor rescued a kitten from underneath a porch, and somehow this little guy found his way into my home. Within hours he wormed his little 6-week old self into our hearts. But just 12 hours after arriving he threw up everything he had eaten, was so weak he couldn't stand up, had a rapid heart-rate and wasn't eating. It really isn't overestimating it to say that he was on death's door. We were panicked and rushed him to the closest place we could find - A Cat Clinic. We didn't have an appointment and we haven't been patients with them for years, but that didn't stop them from helping us. When they saw that our kitten was in distress they welcomed us in and quickly ushered us to an exam room. Dr. Rubenstein examined him - she was honest yet compassionate. She provided us with our options, and told us she would "do the best she could," but the outcome didn't look too positive. We left Flame there knowing he was in good hands, but not very hopeful that he would survive the night. In the morning we were SO THANKFUL to get a call that said our kitten was doing better. Dr. Rubenstein had actually taken him home with her and she had nursed him back to health over night. He is now running around being an adorable, rambunctious kitten and is an amazing part of our family. I couldn't wait to write this review! First, let me say I am a new pet owner of a young kitten named Lilly. I didn't know a thing about caring for a furry feline, or any kind of pet other than a Beta fish. So, I researched the web for all kinds of information on how to care for a cat and came across "A Cat Clinic" for kitten wellness care near Clarksburg, MD. Boy, am I glad I found them and followed through by bringing my kitty here. This place is awesome, clean and the staff are amazing! As a nervous first time mom, they answered all of my questions and helped me feel at ease with Lilly. They handled her with so much care, demonstrated how to cut her nails, and Dr. Rubenstein was able to confirm her actual age - she is 4 months old! Anyways, Lilly is now getting on track with her vaccines and we are prepping for her spay surgery soon. I took my 16-year-old cat to Dr. Rubenstein to get a second opinion on an abnormal ultrasound. She spent a lot of time with me during the appointment and during subsequent phone calls, took a detailed history, and addressed all my concerns. Her practice is exclusively feline (specializing in geriatric cats), and she is one of the few board-certified vets in the area. She is certainly the most knowledgeable vet I've dealt with, and she also referred me to an extremely competent surgeon. The only negative about her practice is the technicians (with whom I only dealt once). Three of them attempted at length to draw blood from my cat, and it was a bit of a circus. If you have a wriggly cat, you might want Dr. Rubenstein to do the labwork herself. read more

Holy cow. I just walked in my door from coming home from the vet's and it was so exceptional I just had to review them right away. Dr. Mustillo is a phenomenal vet, very patient and kind, and the techs are wonderful as well. I have a literal demon for a cat, who has had very bad vet experiences in the past, and they handled her so gently and patiently, and were so full of information. They even gave me a supplement that might help remove some of the "demon" from my girl. They were also great with my new kitten, and very attentive. Seriously, the best vet I've ever had. I'm kicking myself for not finding this clinic soon. Extra plus, the wait room was very nice and cozy, not hospital like, and my demon kitty was the calmest she's ever been in a vet's office. The Cat Clinic is out of the way, but it is definitely set-up for all of the cat folks that fill their rooms! It has a nice, down-home waiting room with good magazines, and four colored vet rooms you can see from the lobby. They have coffee and cookies, but you have to ask someone to work the coffee machine. I have to say that this is the ONLY free thing you will get at the Cat Clinic, since their prices are STEEP! They also do boarding, but those prices are off the charts too. I think Dr. Rubenstein is the gem in their cap, as she is very knowledgable, but it is hard to always justify the costs... read more

My family has used A Cat Clinic about 4 times with our only "major" visit being for a dental cleaning and tooth extraction. First I think it is important to note that this practice is only for cats which makes it far less stressful for the animal while in waiting room. While some offices do an excellent job of separating the cat areas from the dog areas, one does not need to worry about any unnecessary stress from smell, sight, or sounds of dogs might have on their bundle of fur. The younger partner performed the cleaning and tooth extraction. I appreciated that she called about the extraction even though we had signed the paperwork. She determined that the extraction was not an immediate concern but felt that it would ultimately need to come out at some point in the future and wanted to inform us of positives and negatives of doing the extraction now or in the future. Since our kitty was doing well with the anesthesia we figured there would be less potential harm removing the tooth now versus the wait and see approach and additional anesthesia in the future. We will continue using the practice for our cats while continuing to look for a permanent practice for our dogs. I started going here because of my cat's extreme fear of the vet's office and several of her health issues that needed to be balanced. Dr. Mustillo is an amazing clinician and she is so sweet and comfortable with my lady. The techs are all very kind and the environment is quiet and soothing, which is excellent for cats who are skittish and uncomfortable about the vet's office. Prices are pretty good and honestly comparable to offices that do other animals besides cats. But it is extremely comforting to bring her to a place where the *only* animals they work with are felines. read more

We've had Dr. M as my vet for more than a year [since we were brought home from the rescue shelter] and have been treated by caring staff, people who love cats ;-) Even with the trauma we had to go through with ringworm, Dr. M was always there to answer questions, even when our human used the computer. I LOVE A Cat Clinic. My most recent experience was this week when I took our Megan in for a bladder infection. I noticed she was having problems on Sunday night and I called first thing Monday morning. Dr. Mustillo was able to see me that morning and by noon my cat had received fluids, an antibiotic, a urinalysis, and by Tuesday she was feeling MUCH better. Both the vet and the office staff where kind, efficient, and had my full confidence in their diagnosis and treatment. I've been going to A Cat Clinic for years now. We had the excitement of getting our newest kitten his check-up and shots. But we've also had the heartbreaking experience of seeing our older cat go through a fatal illness. I began using this vet last winter when my 15 year old cat began to have some problems. They were and are wonderful! It's clear why they focus on cats, they love them! They were recommended by my pet sitter. They are very accommodating, work hard to find appointments that work for my schedule. my experience with the clinic was not so happy. It was terrible. I had taken my kitten who had an eye problem. The Vet (NOT Dr. Rubenstein, but another young lady) told me that the kitten can not see at all and there is just a hole in the eyes, and the most likely outcome is that the eyes will have to be closed. This was totally contrary to the other Vet we had taken the kitten to (in another country) who said he had an iinverted eye lid which can be corrected. Any way we left in a state of total shock and I was in tears. The rest of the exam was also perfunctory (this was the kitten's first visit to Vet in the US), and over in about ten minutes. We later went to an optholomogist who confirmed that the kitten had vision ( which I knew) and that it was an inverted eyelid problem which can be surgically corrected. Aonther Vet also confirmed that the problem was most likely neurological which was confirmed by a neurologist, while the Vet at Cat Clinic said it was due to a tenden. She did not even mention that it could be neurological. Sent us in totally wrong direction. It is a serious malpractice issue--such terribly wrong diasnogis on both counts. I am posting this review to help and not to damn, so that the Vet can be a little better informed and caring, and for Dr. Rubeinstein to be more carefully in supervising such clearly properly untrained and callous Vets, unleasehd on unsuepecting poor pets.. read more

I'm really happy that we found this place. It's easy to get to, and being in an actual house that has been converted into a veterinary office, it has a cozier, more welcoming feeling than some of the more sterile looking veterinary offices I've been to. Having a cats only practice is genius- it's a quiet, safe environment for the animals, and because they ONLY treat cats, they are 100% knowledgable and up to date on all the latest treatments and ins and outs of feline health. It's a bit expensive, but you get what you pay for a really I don't think it's any pricier than any other vet in the area that I've been to. Caring for your pets properly and being an attentive pet owner does come with a price tag, but my Mr. Weasley and Daisy are worth it. I've always felt that the doctors and techs are thorough and friendly and have a good "bedside" manner with my cats. She keeps up with the latest research and clearly has my cat's best interests at heart. This veterinary clinic is the best I've ever been to. After many attempts for help with eating problems and the cats urinating in the house, i decided to try A Cat Clinic. The dr was gentle, knowledgable, and had an obvious affinity for felines. The entire staff was helpful and friendly. One of my cats messed in the carrier on the way to the clinic and the staff cleaned the carrier and gently cleaned my cats white paws. A place JUST FOR CATS! Our Maisie has never been happier when boarding. The staff are attentive and the accommodations are first-class. We always get a "room with a view" for Maisie so she can keep an eye on the wildlife in the wooded area behind the kennel. I moved to Rockville a year and half ago and I have taken my cat to A Cat Clinic for two annual exams, a teeth cleaning surgery, and two sick visits. I have been pleased with the care and attention my cat has gotten during all of her visits. During her surgery, I received two calls from Dr. Mustillo to inform me of my cat's condition, and what would be done during the tooth extraction and cleaning process. When my cat was sick, my concerns were addressed and my cat was seen as soon as possible. Her treatments were successful and home care was thoroughly explained. In short, A Cat Clinic is a great veterinary service. Highly recommended. About two years ago, we switched from Kentland Veterinary Clinic to A Cat Clinic, and we never looked back. We have three cats, one of them in a very serious condition (chronic kidney failure, and a heart arrhythmia), and we are extremely happy with the care all our pets are receiving at A Cat Clinic. It is a very quiet place, which is big plus, as your cats will be less stressed. All the facilities are an immaculately clean and very pleasant. The staff is superb, very courteous, well-mannered, friendly and helpful. So, right from the start you feel that you are in a place where you and your cats are welcomed. Our veterinarian is Dr. Dale Rubenstein, and she is simply fantastic. First, it is a pleasure to interact with her, she is a very nice person, who is composed and very respectful, and she always makes sure that all of your questions are answered. Most importantly, I am impressed by her attitude toward our pets. You can easily tell that she genuinely cares. She is very gentle, and tries to make our cat(s) as comfortable as possible. I also greatly appreciate is that she remembers facts about our cats, she always keeps us informed on test results in a timely manner (i.e., as soon as the results are ready). What I personally like very much, is that we don't need to contact any specialists to schedule any additional tests or examinations (it was common for our previous veterinary clinic, we had to do most of the work ourselves); Dr. Rubenstein talks with specialists on our behalf, and is taking care of everything.
