To keep it short. This was my second ever broadway show. I loved the show and found it greatly entertaining. I have nothing bad to say about the show itself or the production. I was unfamiliar with the show or movie so wasn't even sure what to expect as we got the tickets same day discounted. For me, the seating was the issue. The space with these seats is absolutamente minimal. Barely enough to move my legs around and keep the circulation going. The person at my right was rubbing knees with me basically and my feet felt stuck under the seat in front of me. This venue needs an update asap.

Chicago is my favorite musical of all time. It was one of the first productions I saw on tour at the Hippodrome Theatre back home in Baltimore and it literally changed my life forever - inspiring me to go on and study theatre for many years (until giving it up to live that corporate 9-5 life). So I write this review as a big fan who was sadly, disappointed with the quality of the production I saw on March 8, 2025. Chicago is the musical of "razzle dazzle" which is why I was surprised to see virtually no set on stage besides the orchestra and a few chairs. The first time we saw a prop wasn't until several numbers in during "All I Care About (Is Love)" where a few feather fans were brought out. We didn't see much else razzle dazzle until the courtroom scenes where the ensemble held cheap looking tinsel pom poms and then the final number where, as another reviewer put it, the Velma and Roxie stood in front of a cheap looking party city-esque backdrop. The costumes, similarly, looked like they were cheap fishnet bodysuits from Spencer's. There were no costume changes, not even at the last number where you'd think Roxie and Velma would make their debut in dazzling flapper costumes. There were very limited visual references to the 20's era in which the musical takes place. Cell Block Tango was probably the most disappointing number of them all, not only for the lack of production value (there was no visual reference to cell blocks or a jail), but for the abysmal acting. One of my favorite parts of this number is that you actually have sympathy for the women in the song even though they're admitting to one of the worst things a person could do - "they used us, and they abused us, how could you tell us that we were wrong?" - and yet, every single actor except Velma and the Hunyak chose to employ a nasal, ditsy, bimbo vocality and physicality. It was clear the actors had no real empathy for their characters and were just playing to the audience for laughs - what a disservice to one of the best numbers of the entire show. In terms of casting, I was surprised to see Roxie played by a much older looking woman than Velma and the fact that she had red hair. Could they not afford to get her a wig for her quintessential blonde finger waves? Lastly, I would advise the theatre to do a better job at not over serving patrons. There was a couple in the front row that was obviously drunk - the man heckled a few times and the woman literally passed out during the entire second act - and yet they were able to buy three cocktails each from the theatre bar. Some people need to be cut off for the safety of themselves and the enjoyment of your other patrons. With tickets being $200 a pop, and this being Broadway for God's sake, you'd think there'd be some higher production value. My advice would be to choose a different production. If you're coming all the way to NYC for a Broadway production and spending that much money per ticket, you will get more bang for your buck elsewhere.

It's always fun to revisit an old, much beloved show like Chicago. It's been so long since seeing this show, I had completely forgotten the story line, and it was like seeing it for the first time. It's an amazing show, and I truly loved it. The dancing was superb, the characters, the participation of the conductor in the story...all fantastic! If you have never seen this show before, or it's been ages since you've seen it last, then do yourself a favor and check out one of the all-time greats. Just a quick note. Some reviewers complain about the theater, the seats, etc...maybe they're from out of town, I don't know, but the theater is an old building, built in the 20's. It's a beloved part of Broadway history, and a true theater landmark. Sure, the seats can be a little small if you're on the larger side. Yes, of course you're going to have to turn your head if you're on the side. What do you expect? And yes the intermission bathroom rush could qualify as an Olympic event. Just deal. I say enjoy the experience of being in a beautiful theater watching the best of the theater world performing in front of your very eyes. Trust me...it's magical!

I had such an amazing time here!!! My husband and I came to see this show and omg we both loved it. The cast was incredible and the seats were awesome and honestly not that expensive. The wine you can buy is superrrr expensive but it can be a fun add on to the experience. Highly recommend

I'd thankfully snagged a complimentary ticket to see Chicago the musical playing at the Ambassador Theater in NYC. This play's setting is based in the Windy City known as Chicago. FYI, Chicago is a city in the USA state called Illinois. It's a 2.5 hour commitment filled with dazzling jazz music, sophisticated singing and dancing. And of course lots of corruption....get ready to use your brain so you can put the pieces together...! Honestly it does not matter where you sit in the theater you'll get a good view of the stage. I was sitting way back in the rear balcony and was able to get an excellent view of the stage.

When you visit NY, there are a few things you need to do, one of them being see a Broadway show! We had planned on trying to see Phantom, but the price was way too high for us. I have seen Chicago before and really enjoyed it so I knew this would be a good alternative. We got our tickets at the Cheap Tix in Times Square. The show, fantastic. Singing, dancing, great music and awesome story. Chicago is a 1975 American musical with music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb, and book by Ebb and Bob Fosse. Set in Chicago in the jazz age, the musical is about female criminals and the crimes that they are accused of. This show has been around for 25 years, and it still makes you do a little shimmy in your seat when they sing "All that Jazz"! The singers and dancers currently on Broadway right now are amazing! There was literally not 1 bad part. I was absolutely into every minute and did not want it to end. I love how they incorporate the live band into the story since the theatre is small. I also love how they sit on the side when they are not on the stage since the majority of the show takes place in "jail". It keeps you remembering that the story takes place in jail and the actors don't just disappear. I honestly cannot say enough about this show. The dancing, Bob Fosse, everyone knows him, and the dancing is fantastic! The music is fantastic, this is really a must see in your lifetime.

An amazing experience seeing Ariana Madix in Chicago The Musical! The Ambassador theater is small but an incredible atmosphere. I hope to attend more shows there in the future!

I saw Chicago decades ago and was blown away. The stage production, score, choreography, and performances were outstanding. As my daughter grew to love live theater, we started going to shows together -- seeing Chicago in NYC a few weeks ago. Ashley Graham was at the end of her four-week run as Roxie Heart. And the lead who typically plays Velma was absent -- with her capable though under-powering understudy on deck. About 10 minutes into the show, I knew we were in for what I can only describe as the equivalent of a really good high school musical. Graham did the best she could for one who is not a trained singer, dancer, or actor. And though I applaud her for trying, why not try community theater? There are amazing talented performers out there who are deserving of the Broadway stage. With those of us paying for tickets deserving to see amazing talent. This show fell short, including the absence of stage production and impact. The brightest spots were the lead who played Mama and the understudy who played Amos, delivering Cellophane Man to perfection. Back at our hotel that night, my 25 yo daughter and I watched Chicago the movie on TV -- which, as she said, "filled in the blanks." There should be no blanks on Broadway. Just hits!

Chicago delivers a stellar performance with a talented cast, a humorous script, and the advantage of a smaller theatre and stage, allowing for an intimate and close-up engagement with the captivating action.

I had previously seen the touring production in West Palm Beach, Florida, but there was something magical about experiencing it in New York. The costumes were spectacular, the acting was divine, and the energy from the audience was absolutely electric. From the moment the curtain went up, I was completely captivated. The theater itself is older, so the seats aren't the most comfortable, but I actually enjoy these historic venues. They have so much character and charm that you just don't find in newer theaters. I'm so glad I had the opportunity to see Moulin Rouge! on Broadway before it closes. It was a memorable and thoroughly enjoyable experience. The bathroom attendance made sure that this 'older' feeling did get cast its shadow on the patrons and for that I am grateful.
