it has been two years since we have paid Peter, and he has made every excuse to come back to our house near Albion to put back my grandfather clock. It had cost my fiancé' more for Peter to "fix" it than it cost to buy the clock. He does not answer my phone calls, and FB messages anymore since we paid him in full. I cannot afford an attorney...we paid him $800 to fix our $700 clock that we bought from the Trading Post in Avon. Joe said it worked and we had nothing but problems so we contacted Peter. He took a $200 deposit when he picked it up and then paid him $600 later, he came on his motorcycle to pick the rest of the money up before he told us he has not worked on it until we gave him the rest of his money. So I have been calling and he said he has over 300 voice mails a day requesting his voicemail. I am sure I was 300 at some time or another. This man should be investigated. I dropped off two antique clocks and an antique Abraham Lincoln Railroad pocket watch for repair in October 2023, paying in advance for repairs to be complete within 6 months. After many phone calls and stopping by his location, Peter did repair my two antique clocks and I got them back in December 2024 (14 months). The pocket watch is nowhere to be found, Peter lost it and won't return phone calls. He told me "it's not lost, it's in a box here somewhere ". This review should be 0 stars!!! I left my moms family cuckoo clock with Peter on the first day of spring of 2020. He said it would take a year because he was so backed up and a full eight hour day to repair, overhaul mom's cuckoo clock. I paid half of his fee upfront and told him I would not bother him until the following first day of spring 2021. The years went by. I called occasionally in 2022, 2023 and in the spring of 2024 I started being more vigilant. Once a week call, twice a week call, I left messages with no return call from him. In June '24. I received a call back with a long song and dance very busy. At this point, I questioned whether he was putting other work ahead of mine. If he had told me it would be this long I would not have left my clock with him. He says, It will be ready soon. Expect another phone call but never happened. In November 24 promised by early December. Never happened. In January 2025 after countless unanswered phone calls he tells me by the end of the month. I called 15 more times until April 14 when he answered the phone and said it would be ready the following day. When I arrived, it was not ready. He wanted me to pick it up the next day, but agreed to have it done in an hour or so. I returned to pick it up and it was hanging on the wall working. It appeared to be operational, but I have serious doubts that he spent a full eight hour day Repairing, overhauling. As the first year passed, my then 90 year old mother said to me "I don't think I'll ever see my clock again." she was right. Mom passed January 2025. Peter's business practices are horrible. Customer relations are horrible. I DO NOT RECOMMEND HAVING PETER FOR CLOCK REPAIRS! Over 5 years later and daily phone messages. I finally have a family clock back. Wow! Peter! Within an hour you were able to read my review and comment on it. Unlike your ability respond to countless phone calls over 5 years. I would not want to walk in your shoes if it means poor customer relations and numerous promises unkept. Again with the excuses. Your customers deserve an honest estimate of time for repairs. I gave this proprietor, Peter Schryver, a $500.00 deposit to repair two antique clocks. As I write this on July 8, 2025, I am sitting in the Small Claims Court in Greece, NY waiting for him to show up for trial -- because, for the past TWO YEARS he has ignored every email, DM, and phone call I have made regarding the status of my clock repair. My EN Welch steeple clock was made in 1868; my Limoges-cased wall clock was made in 1920. They are irreplaceable, and I am heartsick over this loss. I'd sooner eat glass than trust this conman with a single penny ever again, and I can only hope the judge will order him to pay the value of both the clocks and my deposit. Caveat emptor! UPDATE: After his no-show at Small Claims. I called the Greece Police During a 3-way phone call conducted by Officer Parker, Peter was full of both apologies and excuses. He now had a choice -- either return the clocks in working condition by Friday at 11:00 or face arrest for felony larceny. Not a good experience. Owner was paid in full in exchange for a 4 month turnaround on a repair. He was difficult to get to return calls and when he did, he admitted my clock repair had gotten by him and he had been very busy. Gave him a second chance to rectify the situation and same result. Another 3 weeks without my clock being touched and no return phone calls. Found him at his shop and got my unrepaired clock back and a full refund. He said smugly "good luck with that dust collector, (clock) because I am the only guy in the area that fixes these clocks". My answer to him is, "how can I trust you to fix my clock correctly when you can't be true to your word". He is not a man of his word. Stay far away from A-1 clock repair on Ridgeway Ave. in Rochester, NY. He took in my Cuckoo clock for restoration and repair in August 2024. He promised to have the clock repaired and restoration completed and ready for pick up by Christmas 2024 as long as I paid him in full ($540.00) which was indicated on my paid receipt. I paid him in full the day of drop off with good vibes after I met with him at his new shop on Ridgeway Ave. Well a week before Christmas I had not heard from him. I started calling him in regards to my clock. I made several calls and left several messages for him to return my calls. Finally 2 days before Christmas I showed up at his shop since I received no return calls from him . Peter was leaving his shop and told me to come back tommorow (Christmas eve) and my clock will be ready. Tuesday came and I arrived at the shop and he told me to come back in a few hours because the clock is not ready. I left the shop and came back roughly 2 hours later. He boxed the clock and said he was not able to fix 1 of the band members figurines and to bring it back after Christmas otherwise it is all set. I Arrived home and set it up on the wall. It worked ok for 3-4 days and I then noticed the music part was grinding like it was doing before I brought it to him. After a disappointing experience right before Christmas I made an appointment and dropped the clock back off to him to complete the initial repair(Restoration, Music Box, and fix figurine). 2 months went by and I never heard from him that the repair was completed and he once again failed to return my calls, texts, and voice mails. He ignored me so once again I showed up at his shop and left taped notes on his door to reach out to me. He never did. My wife showed up there on March 10 and what I was told by wife that Peter told her to come back the next day and he was very rude and unprofessional by flipping my wife off. My wife was so upset by his actions that she notified the Greece Police who responded. 3 officers went into the shop and after a long delay brought the clock out to her and said that he was not able to paint the figurine but here's your clock back. She came home very upset and I put the clock back on the wall and the music part still was grinding and the figurine came detached from its base. To say the least it was an extremely unfair business practice by Peter and I was out $540.00 with a non working Cuckoo clock. I will never refer anyone to him and will always have no respect or kind words for his business. His claim to fame is that he is overwhelmed with work. My response to that is don't take in work that you cant complete fully in a timely manner or make promises you can't keep and return phone calls from your paid customers. I have a battery operated wall clock that fell off the wall and damaged the workings. I called Peter at 11:30 and made an appointment for 2:00. He was able to replace the damaged part and straightened the hands while I waited. The price was EXTREMELY reasonable. Very knowledgeable about all types of clocks . I left a message for Pete today about my clock, which needed repair. He contacted me back within minutes to tell me that he does not work on my specific clock because the parts are not available to repair services. This was upsetting news because I would not have a way to fix my much loved clock. To my surprise Pete sent me a link with information to try to get my clock working. I followed the link and to my delight my clock is now working!!! Pete was able to repair my clock without ever seeing it. In the future if I need a clock repaired he will be my only call. He went above and beyond and that alone deserves my lifetime support. Helpful people are almost impossible to find. People willing to help without financial gain are ever more rare. Pete is both. I would like to commend Peter for getting my Grandfather Clock to me repaired and restored! He set it up, explained how to operate it and to keep it going and preserved. I upped my rating because of the excellent work he did. Peter is an eccentric "clock artist", he reminds me of the the inventor in "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang". He seems to be super overwhelmed and a one man show. Super slow, does not answer his phone, and you have to pin him down for a date and conversation for a follow up (sorry Peter but it is the truth). In the end however, he did repair my clock and did a good job. I'm happy that I have my clock back where it belongs. read more

Anyone that has given Peter more than 1 star must be a personal friend who doesn't know the true Peter. I took my clock there 6yrs ago to have him repair it. I called him throughout the years to see if it was done yet, but always an excuse, "If you people would stop calling me I could get your clock done", I was in the hospital for awhile and wasn't working", I should have it done within a week....numerous of calls and messages and no response. Finally I had enough...you can only be sympathetic for so long. So I finally got a hold of him and asked for my clock and deposit back. Well he says he dropped the clock and broke the frame (a gashing hole on top of clock). Of course he said this has never happened before with any other clocks he has had. So I made arrangements for my deposit and clock back. I get there and he has my check all made out to me, but refuses to give it to me as he doesn't have enough funds in the bank to cover it. So I grabbed the check off the counter and he assaults' me trying to get it back. He throws me up against a wall, throws me to the floor and puts me in a choke grip to try to get the check back. I left shaking and bruised with torn check in hand. After all that he calls cops complaining I took the check and I bit him and his balls were grabbed. Cops called and I returned the check with yet another unfulfilled promise to have him send me a check within 30 days. BTW I am a 62yr old woman. All this for a clock he has had for over 6yrs and my deposit plus money because he dropped my clock on the floor. This clock was from my dad who has passed. This is our first post to Yelp, we are writing to alert others to proceed with caution. We brought a clock to Peter, who appeared to be very knowledgeable and said he could fix it. The estimate was multiple hundreds of dollars, with half due at the outset, half upon completion. When we asked if it could be completed by a particular date, he explained he was very busy but could expedite it if we paid the full amount upfront. We left our clock with Peter and planned to send a check. Later, he called to ask status of our payment and pressured us to provide the funds right away. We were prompted to read the reviews on Yelp, which furthered our concern. Fortunately, we had found another expert who was able to fix the clock. So we decided to pick up the clock. Unfortunately, when picking up the clock, we found Peter had disassembled it. After taking it home and re-assembling it, we found that parts were missing. We asked Peter for the missing parts and he claimed he did not have them, that they were lost in transit, which was not possible as it was in our empty trunk, there was no chance for any item to be lost. Peter clearly has great passion and knowledge for clocks however we urge you to use caution. read more

Dreadful, unreliable, evasive - took a large deposit, then kept the clock for 17 months. After 12 months (which, to be fair, he had explained would be about the time it would take him to get to it) began a 5 month saga of monthly, then weekly excuses/reasons why he hadn't started on it, then how he'd just started (but see getting the clock back) and he would ring in the next 2 weeks, then next week. Never returned calls. In the end, went in a week early of the last promise to find the clock still untouched so took it home after 17 months, after taking a $30 hit on the refund of the deposit. Asked around and found others had had similar experiences - deeply regret going to him. read more

on sept. 19, 2018 i took my mothers black forest cuckoo clock in to peter. he raved about the fact that it was an 8 day cuckoo with brass parts. which meant it was produced either prior to WWII, or in the early part, because of the brass. i put a substantial deposit down and he told me it would be about a year as he showed me how many clocks he had in his shop at the time. this clock was given to my mom by my father and has great humorous story that goes with it. my mom had passed in april of 2018. i began calling peter in october of 2019, just to get an update and see whether the clock would be ready for a family gathering at christmas. no returned calls! i called 2 times just before thanksgiving. finally he answered. i was reassured that even though he has so many clocks to repair he would certainly try to make this happen. about 10 days prior to christmas i again tried to reach him. to no avail. the thursday before christmas he called me to say that it would be ready to pick up either the following monday or tuesday. he said he would call me to me know when to pick it up. christmas was wednesday. no calls. i reached out to him again on january 25, 2020, and when i reminded him of our conversation, his attitude changed and said there was no need for me to argue with him, that he probably just got overwhelmed and didn't get to the clock. he also asked why i waited a month after christmas to let him know. i suggested that a phone call prior to christmas would have been great he said he was hanging up and that i would have my clock next week one way or the other. think the attorney generals office needs to be contacted. read more

Don't take your clock here!!!!.....was told by owner that he was the only repairman in the area....he was so busy that it would take a year to repair...contacted him at 12 months and was told it would be ready any day...1 month later contacted him again was told would be done in a week....1 month later went to the shop...no one there as usual...and saw the clock laying on the floor in pieces among other dismantled clocks....called and stopped every week after that until finally clock was finished......16 months later......guess you have to wonder when his best review was done by himself....I agree with Bob S.....and for the record there are other repair shops in the area.....do your research first people.... read more
