Very friendly staff. They are the Omega AD in the area and have a good selection. I've visited with a friend who bought a Speedmaster, then again on my own. Each time I told them I was just looking, not buying but they still gave me great service and attention. Last time they had some pre-owned Rolex models. ADs come in varying qualities, and there are some you have to be wary of, whether because of rude staff, poor service, or bad pricing. Cornell's does not meet any of those criteria, as they do an amazing job offering you options from mid-tier to luxury watches. I went in to look at the new 2021 Omega Speedmaster in person since Cornell's Jewelers is the only Authorized Dealer in the area. No prior appointments necessary and we just walked in. You do have to check in at the door, but we were greeted immediately. The showroom was pristine and well-lit. The saleslady was pleasant and took us to the Omega watch display case quickly. The watch looked amazing and we asked about pricing. We weren't expecting much of a discount for a new 2021 model watch. However they offered a $400 discount right off the bat. To be honest, I wasn't expecting Cornell's to be flexible with pricing at all. I ended up buying the watch from an online retailer a friend had good experience with (and also provided an ever bigger discount). However, I were to shop local and needed to see the exact watch in person, I would have gone back to Cornell's Jewelers. read more

We live in Watertown NY. Last year we were visiting Rochester on our 30th anniversary, and we stopped in to get the battery in my Michael Kors watch fixed. While we were there we looked for a new chain for a heart we bought at Tiffany's in New Orleans a few years before. I needed a sturdy chain, and Morgan was lovely and sold us one for about $450.00. In the past few weeks the chain started to turn black, and it also turned my neck black. I went to a local jeweler who said that was the best it would ever be (knowing that a year ago I would not have bought it). We were in Rochester today, and we stopped in to Cornell's. I wasn't dressed to the nines, and neither was my husband, as we had doctor's appointments. Initially, I was treated "okay" while they looked at my husband with glancing eyes. He went back to the car, and the woman who waited on me looked at the chain and said she would put it through the ionizer and she'd be back. When she did, the chain was 'a little better' but not like we bought when we got it, and then she made a mistake.... The clasp broke off, in her words "it was rusted". Now, silver does not rust! So she took it back to the jeweler and they replaced the clasp. I questioned her about 'rusted' and she said, " OH , I meant tarnished!". Then she said I must have well water in Watertown -- we don't -- and maybe I was taking a medication that caused it to tarnish. Maybe - just maybe - it was a defective piece of jewelry??? She made it sound like "I" was at fault. To say I am @#$@5@ off at them is an understatement. If I would have known this would happen I would have NEVER bought it. Then to backtrack and say "no it wasn't rusted, it was severely tarnished".... that doesn't work. I used to have respect for them... not any more. BUYERS -- BEWARE!! Unless you are buying a pair of earrings for $24,000 be prepared to be looked down on. Sad -- guess they won't want my $$ again! read more

I I chose Cornell as it's Family Owned and for the fact that they're a Luminox Dealer. My wife and I were married 17 years ago June 14th 2003. We were headed to Marco Island, Florida this year, but due to Covid-19 we had to cancel our trip. I rented a House Boat somewhat locally instead. Back to Cornell's review... I make things interesting. I texted Cornell's and within a few minutes I received a response. After, chatting for awhile I asked, "Whom am I chatting with?" the response, "Michael" Michael and I chatted for awhile and I made an appointment to come into the store. I was greeted by a young guy named Jamison, and he proceeded to walk me back to where the time pieces are, so I could select my Anniversary gift to myself, I've been wanting a Luminox Watch for many years. Jamison was very knowledgeable of the product and allowed me to try on a few that I liked. I chose one and then headed to the main counter to look for something for my wife. Reluctantly I found something that she doesn't have yet. I've been buying her jewelry for years from Kay Jewelers in the Mall. I have bought several of the Jane Seymour collectables that have something to do with our fur kid Myriyah, she's now 9, and she's a Lab mix. It took me a little while to find something suitable for my wife and I had help from Jamison and Jennifer. Once I had everything they were gift wrapped and put into a very nice bag for me too present them when the time was right. Cornell's is Veteran friendly they offer a Veteran Discount. Today 6/6/2020, I texted Michael again and asked if I could exchange my time piece for one that wasn't there last week, when I made my initial purchase? I did inform Michael that it was still gift wrapped and I hadn't worn it. I upgraded to a Carbon Fiber watch which better suited my use. Everything went Superbly, it's Super Clean in the Store and I was able too meet Michael's Father and let him know I really enjoy his Commercial that air's during the Holidays. Michael, Jamison and Jennifer are always eager to make sure anyone that steps into their store is taken care of 100%, as I was made to feel that I was apart of their Family. My husbands family has gone to Cornells for many years. His grandfather and father recommended going there. From the very beginning I never felt welcomed there. Service was always cold and poor. I continued to go there as that is where my rings were purchased so any cleanings/ dips/ repairs were always done there. The last repair I needed was my band cracked at the bottom where it was previously re-sized. Cornell's said they needed to send it to the manufacturer to repair quote since they couldn't repair it. I had to pay $65 to ship it there and wait 2 weeks for quote. the manufacturer said they no longer make this band and need to put my diamonds into a new setting for $2500! All it needed was a quick Solder and redip. This was a complete money grab on all parts. I requested to come pick up my rings. When I went to pick them up customer service couldnt find them and had none of my information in their system. They then accused me of taking my rings elsewhere and that is why my rings broke. when I asked to have my serial number verified before to me make sure it was my diamond after being shipped back to manufacturer for over a month, I was given an attitude. I couldn't get out of there fast enough and never return. I brought my rings to a local small town jeweler and they fixed it for less than $300 within 2 weeks and it looked far more bright and shiny than it ever did leaving Cornell's. ashamed I ever gave them my business to begin with. read more

I also think Morgan is great, who often helps me when I stop in to have my jewelry checked and cleaned. Super disappointed with my experience here. Initially I came in to see if I could have rings that belonged to my late mother resized to fit me but as I expected the rings were infinity rings so it's impossible to do that. So, our consultant offered to have a custom ring created utilizing the diamonds. I told her I wanted a ring I could wear everyday that was simple but my mom. 3 weeks after picking it up a diamond fell out so I brought it back. The new consultant told me this ring could never be worn everyday because the diamond shape is too delicate for everyday. 4 diamonds in the ring are cracked and I had to pay to get a new one in to replace the one that fell out. I would have never altered my moms original rings if I wasn't going to be able to wear this ring daily. Beware. They did not tell me any of this until after it was a problem. I spent $1800 for something I can barely wear. read more

Both classy and friendly, I've never detected a hint of snobbery from anyone. It doesn't matter what you're wearing or where you're from; you'll feel welcome at Cornell's. They've even got a playroom for kids to hang out while you talk business with a sales associate. While the interior is bright and sparkly and clearly expensive, nothing here feels pretentious. But the jewelry is stunning. There might not be an ugly item in the entire store. The sales associates take the time to understand your needs and somehow always come out with just the right piece. Ok, my watch needed a new battery so I checked Yelp, read a few reviews on this place and thought why not. Now as I have read other reviews I was not sure what to expect. But I brought in my Tiffany and Co. watch yes a Tiffany watch. Now I've had this watch for about sixteen years.. I also have another watch from them and a few others from other places over the years. I've kept this one out of sentiment. Ok so I walk in it's a stunning place. It's bright and light. Their diamonds are by Harts on Fire and they have some really beautiful things. Engagement rings, bands, earrings and all the rest that you would find in a good jewelry store. Now I will say this the most I've ever paid for battery in a watch is $10 and in all honesty that's about all you should pay. While I was there in the month of February it was donation based due to the fact they were collecting for a noble cause. That's fine the only cash I had was $8.00 I thought it was fair.. now Liz helped me out she was lovely and asked me if I wanted water or coffee while I waited. It was a nice experience but I found it odd to ask me if I wanted my 16 year old watch if I wanted it water sealed for $75?! For what?! I don't dive with my watch and hell I think a Rolex is pretty much set for 100 meters down?! That's my only gripe... also I found well.. to be clear I was not a mess but I was dressed casually. I brought out my watch, I have the original boxes and everything and in a way I was slightly being judged? Sad really... but when I asked about getting some of my crystal clocks fixed she told me about a place. She gave me a receipt and asked for my email and said "we have sales" I was like?! Listen I have purchased things at Tiffany's, Fred Leighton and Bulgari I've never been given the side eye or slight. So..will I go back? I don't know, but you cannot judge anyone you never know if someone is balling with $$ or broke as hell. If Tiffany's was close I would have gone in.. if you have a more expensive watch go in, if not there have to be other places. I have only been to this jewelry store once, but my experience was extremely frustrating and I am glad I had the foresight to not give them my business. I own three watches - they aren't anything special. They are SWISS watches that are collectively probably only worth $200 (max) and I might be overestimating. All three batteries died right around the same time and there is no jeweler near my apartment to change the batteries, so I decided to bring them to Cornell's since they are located about half a mile away from where I teach in Pittsford. I don't know whether it was because I wasn't dressed like I owned a mansion in Pittsford, or because I wasn't looking to purchase jewelry, but one of the employees quoted me $75 - yes, $75 - PER watch to replace the battery and water seal. Why I need to have the waterproofing seal reapplied on watches that are only water resistant to 50m, I have no clue, but it struck me as odd. When I presented her the watches, she looked them over and gave me the price quote, to which I responded, "Excuse me? That seems a bit high for these watches. That's more expensive than what I paid for two of those watches. How much is it to change just the battery?" She responded, "$15." $75 for a battery replacement + waterproofing $15 for a battery replacement I'm a little insulted that anybody at any jeweler would quote such inflated prices. A normal watch battery should cost me, at most, $5. The only reason I couldn't change it on my own was because I do not possess the right tools to pry open the back cases. I told her that this was much too expensive and seemed quite a bit inflated - we're talking a watch change, not buying a whole new watch, which is what I might as well do when they quote you $225 of watch battery replacement fees! The bottom line is that my wonderful girlfriend brought the watches to a jeweler on the other side of town where she works. Total cost per watch? $6.14. I want to give them Cornell's the benefit of the doubt that the price was a standard price and not inflated because of my appearance or because I wasn't going to drop several thousand dollars on bling bling for my girlfriend. But I don't know how somebody can look you in the eye and tell you that changing a battery on a watch, with or without water sealing, is going to run you any more than $10 per watch with a straight face. Double check your prices before you go there as I'm not sure how much they inflate the prices on everything else in their store. read more

I have never written a yelp review, but I decided I should after nearly 10 negative experiences with Cornell's. I initially went in to have a claddagh ring resized. It started out as a size 6.25 and took nearly 10 visits back and forth to the store due to some serious quality control issues the store has with their ring sizing process. The ring has now been every size between a 4.75 to size 5.5 due to multiple trials of every ring sizer they have in their store and even their custom ring sizing option. Each time the ring fit differently than the ring sizer did. On two separate occasions they sized it to a 5.5. One time it was so loose it nearly fell off and the final time it actually fit. My finger was not transforming into a different size each time I went to the store and it is unfortunate they do not have better quality control when it comes to ring sizing. Resizing a simple gold band on a normal shaped finger should have been an easy assignment but unfortunately they proved again and again that they were not up to the task. read more

We had the pleasure of working with Morgan and Liz during our engagement and wedding ring shopping. Both were extremely informative and answered all our questions above and beyond what we expected. We ended up getting the engagement ring and a year later went back to look for wedding bands. Even though we did not end up getting the bands there (we used family rings instead) we were treated like family. This worst the worst experience I've ever experienced in getting my Rolex repaired! Scott the watch associate/sales man fast talked me the whole time and gave me a agreed upon price, the when i was promised a 1-2 weeks for it to be done it took almost a month to recieve! So now when it came to paying for their service I was charged $300 over the original agreed price. So when me and Scott were talking about the total price he got very frustrated and walked away from me and ran in the back! Very unprofessional! BEWARE when you deal with Scott to get a watch repair done he will slick talk you and not tell you about any of their hidden fees! I drove in from Chicago (10 hours) to visit family and check out what Cornell's had to offer for engagement rings, not expecting to find something that would work in our price range. My grandparents have been buying from them for years though, so the chance to check out a high end jeweler was too good to pass up. The store itself is out of a magazine, with ample lighting, snacks and refreshments, and plenty of smiling faces waiting to help We were lucky enough to work with Michael, and he blew my fears out of the water. After a thoughtful and easy to understand explanation of diamonds, settings, and different considerations he asked me what I wanted. I showed a photo and we highlighted the characteristics I liked about it. Over the next hour he patiently helped me try on almost every ring in the store, appeasing the styles of everyone involved. Even though we had a lot of opinions, I felt like he understood that I was the one who would be wearing it, and definitely advocated for me. I was today the first time in Cornell's Jewelers. I have to say I wouldn't go again! I came in with a diamond ring, worth of couple thousand dollars. The ring isn't from this store but my husband was a customer there, as he bought me a gift, so he recommended to me, to go there and let my ring sized, because it was to big. Well first of, outside temperature was about 8F freezing, the door was closed and I waited quoit a long time until someone opened. Ok, I understand a store like this need to be locked. I was greeted by someone, no idea who. I told her why I'm there. She told me she wouldn't be qualified to answer my question regarding sizing so she would send someone else to me. I was waiting over 30 min. until a sales professional came to me. She wasn't exactly very friendly and I felt that she is kind of denigrate my ring, maybe because it wasn't from them? I don't know, but I would expect more helpfulness or courtesy with a ring like that. She took it back to ask if they would size it and then she told me the ring couldn't get sized, the person wasn't feeling comfortable doing it. I asked her if they have rings similar to this one, but nothing came near to that. So, all in one, I do not believe that they are a first class store, waiting over 30 min to talk to someone is a NO GO!!!!!!!! read more

This is based on their appraisal service. Cornell's wanted $175 to appraise a vintage watch. I was pressed for time, but still, I shouldn't have agreed. I was told I should get an appraisal based on what a new version of the watch would cost, and that I would have a very complete, professional, in-house appraisal. Turns out he was wrong on all counts. A new version of this watch would cost 3x what a vintage version would cost, and would triple my insurance policy rates. If the watch is stolen, I want its actual value, not the value for a watch I do not own - watches aren't like TVs when it comes to insurance. The appraisal he implied would be done by him was signed by a woman, and had grammatical errors in it. In retrospect, of course he wanted to do a "new replacement" - it meant looking at a catalog for a price instead of doing any research. So, now I know: don't be talked into a "new replacement" value for a vintage item and don't pay Cornell's $175 for what was probably ten minutes of shoddy work. But hey, when you tell them about your new insurance quote for the inflated watch value, they'll be sure to offer you a quote for their in-house insurance! No thanks. read more

I have purchased a many various items from him and also required his assistance in many different watch and jewelry repairs. I have never had a complaint about the service that Scott has provided to me, in fact, if ever there has been a problem with either a purchase or a repair that Scott has facilitated for me, Scott was always right there to work tirelessly until I was satisfied. I must admit I have shopped at many different jewelry stores throughout my travels both domestically and abroad and have never received the quality and dedication of service that Scott Van Dusen has provided me with during these many many years.
