Excellent level of service here. I had them replace a battery for a watch on a Saturday afternoon. The woman explained that the watchmaker was not in that afternoon, but would be tomorrow. Well, no guarantee, she said she would hope that he could get it completed tomorrow, and will call me either way. Just as promised, she called me midday Sunday, letting me know that the watch was done, tested, and ready for pick up. When I went back in on Monday to pick it up, she readily found my watch. We had a nice conversation and charged me appropriately. Wow I do have a couple of watches, I don't think I'll have a need for a watch shop more than 2 to 3 times a year. I've used this watch repair shop multiple times to replace batteries and broken watch bands. Sometimes, I have to leave the watch overnight, but not always. They always have a great selection of watchbands in stock and call promptly when it's ready. The price is fair and the service is great! read more

I rarely post negative reviews. I was raised that if you can't say anything nice.... However, I feel the current Yelp rating way too high. I brought in a metal band watch to get it refitted for me. (And, yes I know I can - and have - done this in the past, but it's a pain). It was a Wednesday afternoon, and the nice lady behind the counter informed me that the watch repair guy wasn't due in til Sunday. Don't go here. The man who used to repair watches is no longer here. Unless he's been replaced (I don't know whether he has) go elsewhere. The elsewhere you should go is Franko's, in the Loop. (Someone started a review of A D Watch Repair with "who goes to the Loops?" Uh... you go a few damn miles away to get good work done, maybe?) When I went to Franko's he found A PIECE OF PAPER that had been put into my watch by someone at this place to, I don't know, keep it going or something. WARNING FOR NEW CUSTOMERS I am not the type of person that enjoys leaving a bad review; only in extraordinary circumstances where the service was bad enough to give heads up to others potential customers. I left a watch for battery replacement and another watch for a repair estimate end of May. After over a month passed, I decided to retrieve the non repaired watches in July. Their explanation was that one week the man that does the job was sick, the other week the shop attendant was sick and I kept texting with her back and forth. When I showed up to get my non-repaired watches back, she said "it is what it is". I am sorry if they got sick on two consecutive full weeks and they were behind but here is my warning if you are planning on trusting your watches to this shop: The man that does the repairs, works ONLY 4 hours a week on Sundays and the assistant can help him doing minor tasks. This is always the case. I cannot understand how 4 hours a week are only dedicated to run this shop. Yes, Mabel is friendly, they had to order the battery that arrived in a week and I did not have the chance to see the final results and give you a review about the repairs but Customer Service and dedication was BAD and a waste of time for me where I could have taken my watches somewhere else and get the job done. So we f you are planning on going there, be aware that you may wait for several weeks. I wish the shop success and good luck regardless my awful experience. read more

I've never been disappointed with the speed and professionalism of A D. The staff is always friendly, no matter who the representative is at the time, and they are very affordable and accommodating. I've only ever had to have watches replaced, but $10 for a replacement is standard and just right. The only "negative" thing I'd have to note is that they don't do on-the-spot replacements of batteries, which other shops in my old neighborhood used to do. read more

Not too much in the way of positive for this group. My better half took one of my watches in for a battery replacement after my usual place closed. When I went to put it on a few days later I noticed the time and hands were off (not unusual after a battery replacement on a chronograph but most reputable places correct that before handing it over) adjusted the time and carried on getting ready. Before leaving the house I noticed it was not keeping time properly and swapped out with a different watch and intended to get back to the shop so they could look at it. Summer got in the way and it spent 6 weeks on the dresser as a reminder to get it fixed. Again the better half did me a favour and dropped it back off. Imagine my surprise when she received a call speaking to a damaged chronograph button and rust inside the watch. Well, I wanted to stop in to have a chat and was less than enthused with the reception I received. First I was told to have a seat because there was a fella that popped in a minute after me who needed a few batteries replaced. Why do I get the push to the side when I was there first, is it because you don't want him to leave when he hears my questions? Then immediately the blame was pushed to me suggesting that - "You must have worn the watch in the lake as your wife said I had worn a watch recently while swimming." Um no, I have a few watches and the one in question is one I wear for formal occasions and at times to the office. "Well then you must have worn it in the shower" Um no, I don't wear any watches in the shower and the watch in question is rated to 50 meters so that should not have been an issue. Then they opened the watch it indeed looked like it could be rust, but also it could be dust from the baseball diamond across the street if it was not sealed properly. Then the woman said "I certainly hope you are not implying that we damaged the watch because you wore it in the lake". Um, no, we already established that I had not worn it in the lake and that it had not been worn since it was picked up 6 weeks prior. Add to that the amount of "rust" should have been noted 6 weeks prior. They offered to clean and fix the broken button for $150.00. I elected to take it home and think about it. After dropping it off with a manufacturer certified watch shop in the Loop I received an estimate for a total overhaul for $270. No notes on if it was rust or dust but the watch had to be completely taken apart, cleaned and oiled. Oh yeah remember the broken button, well there was nothing wrong with it. Despite the fact that they gave me credit for the $10 on battery replacement, that was applied to the ladies watch, I will never go back to them again. A $10 battery replacement should not end up costing close to $300. read more

I walked in off the street and asked to have my watch battery replaced, and the watch checked to see if it had anything wrong with it. I bought it at Macy's and they did a terrible job repairing it. The proprietor was very friendly and efficient. The watch was ready in a few days, the price was reasonable, and I saw they had lots of watch bands on sale so I bought a new band for a different watch, and she put on the new band on the spot. I think this is one of the friendliest places I have ever been to. The owners are sweet as can be. My boyfriend and I both got each other watches for our anniversary, and both were naturally too big. We went to AD to just have a couple of links removed. My boyfriend went on a Saturday I was out of town, and was in and out in under 5 minutes for only $5. I tried to go the following Monday and the watch guy was sick, so the lady told me to come back Wednesday. I went back my next available day (Thursday) and she again apologized and said he only works Saturday. So maybe he only works two days a week? Call ahead of time! I finally went back that Saturday and was done in under 5 minutes! However, I was charged $15. I did remove 3 links, and my boyfriend only removed 1, so I'm assuming that's the price difference.... But for a service that was the same amount of time, I wish I didn't have to pay an extra $10. Overall, I'm assuming they would be great for large fixes, and they were absolutely kind as can be, but I might find a cheaper link removal place next time! read more

Think about this when you see a business that has 50 good reviews and one bad one. It's a watch place that replaces batteries, most of the reviews are going to be good. It's how you handle a problem when it arises that counts. I took in five watches, within a week two were already broken. I took them back and requested my money back. They said they would replace the battery on the one watch. My logic was if I had five surgeries by the same doctor and two instruments were left in me, I wouldn't want the same Dr. going back in to get them. They doubled down and the guy there decided to tell me they were cheap watches. -They weren't too cheap when you took my money. read more

You know the old adage, "You get what you pay for"? Well, for simple jobs--resizing a bracelet, changing a battery, etc.--don't hesitate to come here. The people are exceedingly nice and work efficiently, so you'll have your items back with a quick turnaround. For anything more significant, think twice. First, I had an Omega that needed a small adjustment inside of the case (no work on the movement), which was completed and fine. As soon as I got outside, I noticed the interior of the watch was completely fogged up, so the case wasn't pressure sealed. Fine, not a big deal--took care of it, good to go. The larger issue I have is that my Breitling needed servicing, and against my better judgment, I took it in to AD. I was quoted $385 for a complete overhaul. The work was done after a couple weeks, but after picking it up, I noticed it still wasn't keeping time correctly, and the movement sounded completely different than before. I took it back and, realizing this is a small shop, tried to explain that the work shouldn't have been performed if there wasn't complete confidence that it could be done correctly. Well, I didn't get a dime back, and my Breitling bill is $900 for what the Swiss are calling "an overhaul that is one or two years overdue." So, what did AD actually do? This is the definition of Mom and Pop shop. Pop fixes, Mom handles the books and customers. Expert watch repair work. I gave them a challenge the 2nd time I came in with my Great Uncles antique railroad watch circa 1918- it needed replacement gears and a new lens to protect the face. It took them over a month to find the parts, but they got the job done! This is once again a family heirloom. I come in at least once a year to fix my favorite watch- I like classic time pieces that need more than a new battery. Also- if you need a battery they garantee it for a year. Very friendly people, and completly dog friendly store. They keep a treat jar and know all the neighborhood dogs by name. The guy who does the repairs has the "he's been doing this forever" kind of air about him, which makes me feel like I'd trust him with any of my timepieces. I am so happy!!! These people were more helpful and more kind than the employees at the upscale designer brand where my watches were from in the first place! Brought 2 watches in for a battery change, and it literally took 5 minutes for him to fix them. Best part? Complimentary hershey kisses, butterfingers and crunch bars while I waited. Is AWESOME overused? NOT in this case! I had been told by a LOT of so-called watch repair businesses that my watches' broken crystal either wasn't possible or would cost $$$, substantially more than 2 of the watches anyway, much less having 3 in dire need of crystal replacements and batteries, who knows what else, THEY ARE WORKING & WEARABLE!!!! Not only are Mabel & Anibel Genuinely Super NICE PEOPLE,, A.D. is a " Miracle Watch-worker" in my book. I'm gushing because 2 of my repairs were 20+ year old Cartier Tank "replicas", from a Bangkok Night Market of surprising quality and longevity until I'd broken the crystals of each, after so many years of excellent timekeeping I was bummed & kicking myself for being such a klutz! Not only are all 3 " Good as New " , I'd have to pay A LOT MORE to replace or repair just one anywhere else I've priced! My Scots blood swooned when I learned the batteries are even guaranteed for a year! Plus, I had the 3 of them back in less than a week, slightly under $100.- ? Yup! Dog friendly? Yup to pups! WOW !!! Excellent, reasonably priced watch repairs, warm, kind proprietors and dog friendly, too! Charming Mabel answers phones and runs the desk as her husband, the illustrious certified watch maker Anibel Diaz (AD) does the dirty fingernails work. A lovely pair of people who, together, make this shop tick along smoothly. AD does great work at quite reasonable prices, and usually has my mainly vintage and antique watches properly prepared when promised. Often, he has done more than what was required as I have waited, occasionally chiming in as Mabel and I have chatted. They have gone the extra yard or two, and I have learned to very much appreciate them. Their being open late has many times been useful. In addition, they stock a good supply of watch straps and bands and will special order upon request I am very satisfied with AD, Mrs. AD and this shop and more than very happy to be regularly doing business with them. Don't even think twice about another watch repair referral. EVER. A few weeks ago, I took in my Tissot for a link removal and a nice 'spit and polish' after 12 years of literally doing EVERYTHING(and I mean EVERYTHING) with this watch. It was ready the NEXT day, never looked better and was stunned by the inexpensive fee, nearly half what I was quoted at other places. Of course, I returned this week with my battered 20 year old Mickey Mouse watch that needed a new band and battery. Perfect match for the band and keeping time just like 'Magic'! To say I'm satisfied would be an insult to the great customer service, attention, follow-up and professional demeanor. Who knew such a gem was at the south end of North Center! Both experiences were nothing but great, the owner is as nice as can be and very helpful. The first watch we took in was ready in 10 minutes!
