So after receiving a few quotes from a handful of businesses, I went with Potomac Moving due to the speed of their response, clarity in communication, pricing and overall warmth and professionalism. In our first phone call to walk though my needs, they were very assuring and accommodating, which is a such a relief in the midst of stress and coordination that comes with planning for a move. They were also always very responsive in the few times that I reached out between the time I paid the deposit and the actual move. A night or two before, I sent at email regarding wardrobe boxes, since I was debating whether or not I should buy and have a few delivered to me. The owner responded quickly, assuring me that wardrobe boxes were tried, true and if I wanted to buy any directly from them that I could. That ended up being a great call, because they were able to properly enforce the boxes so that even the boxes filled with my heaviest coats remained in tact. On the day of the move, the movers were communicative regarding their arrival time. They were also very nice and hard working. I had a few large furniture items that needed to be disassembled and they ended up being quite beasts to tackle. But they worked diligently to break them down. Once it came time to move things to my new place, that was a breeze. One gesture that I thought was just so classy, was the owner called in the middle of the move to check-in on how things were going - I really appreciated that. Overall, would definitely recommend PMC - they're easy to work with, fair and transparent about pricing and you're sure to be met with professionalism!

Scheduling this company and receiving a quote that was SPOT on, was amazing. The communication from Ana was perfect. She kept me in the loop about arrival time, send out a confirmation about my booking, and even helped me change my original date to something sooner. Originally, I was quoted a timeframe between 1-5pm, they showed up an hour EARLIER! To some this may have been the part where you panic, especially if you are running small items back and forth to your new place, to me?? This was PERFECT, because I was able to have a headstart for my long moving day. The truck was large enough, both movers came in and were polite, patient, and did not make me feel uncomfortable when handling my items. They wrapped all dressers, tv stands, coffee tables, and TVs and ensured everything was delivered carefully. No frills, no stalling for extra time (you do get charged hourly if you exceed your allowed time), and just straight to business. This was the most communicative moving service I've had-Dani and I discussed in depth the amount of belongings that needed to be moved and what factors would bump up the price. We discussed my budget and he adjusted the move's focus so that the final bill was right where I needed it to be. I have never had another mover be so flexible and conscientious about cost. They even went above and beyond in disposing of an old piece of furniture that we ran out of room to store. I have also had past moves with them that were very short notice and small. They were the most reasonably priced moving company for small moves by far. I would absolutely move with them again.

They were flexible with us as we had to reschedule due to weather, and had several complicated moves that were handled very well. As with any move, we took care ourselves to wrap things, communicate our needs and expectations, but I would do that with any mover. Ask questions, clarify and explain what you want. All furniture was wrapped carefully with moving blankets and secured and all breakables were treated with care. I've never seen a team of people work so hard!

It wasn't intentional, but the amount of damage we saw was much more than what I would have been okay with. But then after putting in our claim on damages with ample proof of damages, and also our honest review, my wife received a call from one of the movers asking us to take down the poor review because they would get in trouble with the owners. Now I'm wondering goes on behind the scenes because the good reviews seems much more shady now. How many other reviews got asked to be taken down? They got the move done and did it relatively quick given the difficulty. The price was rather high given the quality of work completed. And given how quick they were to request us to take a poor review down to me deserves an even poorer review. Honestly, if they had taken accountability right away to the damages I would have felt better about a simple 3 star review. I can't in good conscience recommend Zip Moving and Storage.

We had a dedicated elevator, yet workers often brought items down only one or two at a time. I also saw team members on their phones or standing around in rooms and hallways instead of actively moving things. These delays added up quickly. The crew also misplaced parts of our bed frame, and the pieces had to be found before it could be reassembled. That alone added nearly an hour to the move. Because the move took much longer than expected, the final cost was significantly higher than the estimate we received. We were also charged based on an arrival time that was recorded as ten minutes earlier than when the crew actually arrived. The team was courteous, but given the inefficiency, added time, and higher final price, we would not use Bookstore Movers again. This is unfortunate, because we had been happy with them in previous moves.

Could I have avoided the stressful outcome I endured by just asking them upfront if they would move all of my boxes? If they would stay on the job until it was finished? It may sound silly to ask this of a moving company, but read on. I'll start by saying that the three men who handled my move were mostly professional and careful for the eleven or so hours that they worked. Also, I significantly underestimated the number of boxes I had to move. Serena was very helpful when I initially contacted the company. I provided an inventory of my belongings and some photographs and she worked out a quote that was agreeable. On moving day, her team showed up on time. They were all personable and receptive to my requests. By early afternoon, the moving van was filled up ... but there were still about a hundred boxes in the old house. Suppose the new house didn't have enough room for everything? I asked if they could help me take the remaining items to a storage facility. They pointed out that by the time the van was unloaded, regular offices hours at those facilities would be over. The new house was about a 20 minute drive from the old house. I left in my car and the movers left in their van at around the same time. I arrived at the new house expecting them to be right behind me. For quite a while, they didn't show. I tried calling them but they didn't answer. After about 45 minutes, they arrived. They took a break for lunch. That's fine. Why didn't they just tell me? I labelled each of my boxes with the name of the room where I wanted it to go. For the most part the movers put the boxes in the correct rooms. However, the next morning I could not locate my toothbrush, razor, and a number of other items so I had to purchase replacements. They also dented a wall when moving the couch. They compensated for this by deducting a credit from my total bill. Sometime between 7:30 and 8:00 pm, the men had finished unloading the moving van. The boxes were distributed fairly evenly throughout the house and there was still free space remaining in each room. The team leader started preparing my bill, so I thought they were done for the day. I settled the bill and anxiously tried to figure out how I was going to get the rest of my boxes moved. Was I going to call another moving company? Rent a cargo van? Over the next week and a half, I made ten trips, usually after work, from my old house to the new one, squeezing as many boxes as I could into my little sedan. I finally got the last of the boxes moved. Not fun for an old guy with a bad back. The entire episode left me exhausted and wondering if somehow things could have been handled better. A few days after completing the second stage of my move (and nearly two weeks after the first stage) I received a voice mail message from Serena. She wanted to know how things went. She already knew there had been an issue with me having too many boxes for one trip because one of the movers had called the office on the day of the move to advise her. In her message Serena said that the office was currently closed for a holiday but that I could call her on her dedicated line. Unfortunately, she didn't realize that her line had been switched off for the holiday and was not accepting messages. A day or two later we did manage to connect. Serena was careful to ask me just a few general questions so as to avoid suggesting that anything had been handled improperly. At the same time, she wanted to know what had happened and what options, if any, I was given. I eventually told Serena that none of the movers offered to make a second trip to collect the rest of my boxes and I believed that was because they did not work after 8:00 or 9:00 pm. Serena assured me that sometimes they worked past midnight. They keep working until the job was done. Except in my case. She also agreed that the three men could have moved the last set of boxes within 90 to 120 minutes. Serena told me she would discuss the matter with the movers and get back to me. But I never heard back from her. I still don't know what to make of this entire affair. I work in customer service and I use all of my resources to ensure the all of my clients' needs are fulfilled. That's what they depend on my for. Of course, if I knew there was an option of making one more relatively short trip to complete the job, I would have gladly taken it. The company would have gotten more money, the movers would have received larger tips, and I wouldn't have faced the ordeal of moving a hundred boxes a dozen at a time by myself. Ouch!

FRAUDULENT SCAMMERS from Haiti and El Salvador. Joshua Joseph, owner of Vanity Van Lines (VVL) who sub-contracts Louis with Movers on the Way (MOTW). They employ illegal immigrant criminals. They've both, in fact, changed business names due to many previous negative reviews/complaints and claims. Their employee's could not communicate effectively due to language barrier, or perhaps it was a part of their scam to play dumb. They "forgot" to pack cabinets with inexpensive items and packed antiques that were clearly marked, "DO NOT PACK". They damaged high-end furniture, which was also marked "DO NOT PACK". They left scuff marks on my stair walls. They did not tag all items/boxes, nor did they present an itemized list of of my goods on the BOL; therefore, I am left to believe much of my goods will go "missing". Note: according to the international transfer company at the port, this is very common of said scammers. At the end, once my goods were packed and sealed in their truck/trailer (it was after midnight), they attempted to intimidate me, to include threats, because I'd refused to document my debit card information on their BOL, pay their high debit card fee (such fee was not disclosed prior to then) and I'd also refused to sign a second contract, waving my right to file a claim for my goods with MOTW, from my $1 million home. After further intimidation, I listed my debit card number, but not the CVV. They laughed at me while one man was loudly tapping on a glass vase and stomping his foot -- the another man was also laughing while repeatedly stating "you have to sign all [waivers], it is not an option". I immediately called the security officers gaurd house as they called their boss, Louis with MOTW. Louis was chuckling over the phone - he said, "why are you so scared? My men wouldn't hurt anyone". The officer arrived within 8 minutes, but the immigrants had left once they understood security was on their way. But, remember: they don't speak English. I then reported such to Joshua with VVL; however, he did not respond for 2 days. He then apologized profusely and agreed that I would no longer have to communicate with MOTW - he would be my only point of contact and he agreed that we should hold off on the 2nd pymt until he could resolve the matters with MOTW (I then transferred my balance to my savings so the said pymt wouldn't clear), and said he would be present at the port to receive, inspect and properly reconcile/inventory my goods. He also stated that he would no longer be contracting MOTW and would be removing them from the 256-ish moves scheduled on his board. He then later scolded me for relaying such information, in response to Louis's email with MOTW, as I wasn't suppose to "share" our conversation with Louis. I knew in that moment I was being scammed - he obviously wasn't trustworthy either - and they were working together. For approximately 2 weeks thereafter I questioned Josh about the whereabouts & delivery of my goods and wire transfer details for VVL. As instructed, on or around April 17 I wired said 2nd pymt. To date, they're still holding my goods in attempt to charge me an additional $2000+ for bogus storage and handling fees. This is fraud! After I reported Josh with Vanity Van Lines to the BBB he contacted me and asked me to remove the claim in exchange for dropping their bogus fee's. I refused his offer on principle. But more importantly, I believe I am due a partial refund for my time, inconveniences and attorney fee's. Today, I also filed a claim with the BBB on Louis with Movers on the Way. read more

Okay where do I start about this "Dream Team" Firstay, I researched 6 other moving companie, learning that I was speaking with a broker and not directly with the moving companies (so there's an additional broker fee - 3rd parties fee). "Movers On The Way & Storage Company" is a family owned business so I was more then delighted to support this effort. On the day of the move the "Dream Team - Lenny, Junio, & Rudy" called & arrived 15 minutes early. immediately started working, loading the truck, dismantled my old bedroom furniture set, removed & trashed all unwanted items on my balcony to the trash room. I tried to assist but was told to relax we are here to do the hard work. My Husband called & spoke with Lenny (foreman) & I assured him I was in good hands - these guys are Hard-Workers. I was so impressed after the "Dream Team" empty my one-bedroom Apt., as we were driving to my new residence an hour away, I decided to treat the "Dream Team" to a sit-down lunch @ a restaurant; reason, we had over 50 boxes (mostly books) and an apartment full of furniture - imagine how heavy those large boxes were and these guys are not robots but Humans. Once we arrived at my new residence; these guys place every box and other items (treadmills and other exercise equipment) in each desire room (most of the boxes was noted kitchen, main bedroom, living room, etc.,) any unmarked boxes I was asked where to sit each box. I was so impressed with their Professionalism, Services, and Kindness that my Husband informed me to tip them, and to invite them to stop by anytime they are in the area. We felt we have an addition to the family. I even called Lenny (foreman) the next day to thank him and I will highly recommend their services. Also, the owner called me the next day to follow-up on the services and all we could do is offer praise to the "Dream Team" for this Stress-Free & Delightful move transition. I highly recommend you select this Family Owned Company for yout local and long-distant moves. you will not be disappointed. I recently moved from Bethesda MD to New York City and could not have been more pleased. Because I was on a budget, I packed my own boxes and they labeled them accordingly. Nothing was lost, stolen, or otherwise damaged. My furniture and things that could not be boxed were wrapped in blankets and handled carefully. The movers showed up on time both to pick up my things and to drop them off. Because I was moving into an apartment building with specific service elevator hours and scheduling, Movers On The Way and especially Frank Silva was able to have an exact delivery date which was very important to me. While unpacking my crate on the street, none of my boxes were left unattended or out of eyesight. The movers Luis,David and Jose were professional and efficint. After reading the horror stories on the website I was extremely nervous about my experience, but I could not be more pleased. I don't see why anyone would go with any other company. These guys are GREAT. They moved me in-state 4 years ago, so I called them this time to move me out of state. I am in between cars - the owner offered to let me ride shotgun with the driver AND MY TWO CATS. He also offered me a month's free storage since I don't know my new address yet (got an out of state job offer so need to work out living arrangements). He was so calming, I'm losing my mind because there's so much up in the air that I don't know about this move and he was like "we'll figure it all out, don't worry". Three workers, one lady and two gentlemen arrived promptly at the appointed time. They worked efficiently for about three hours wrapping all the furniture with heavy paper AND saran wrap - one of the best preparations for moving I've seen, packed all glass and ceramic ware very carefully, again wrapped and padded with heavy paper. Then after traveling to the storage area all boxes and furniture were moved and placed carefully in the storage area. We could not have asked for better service! read more

They moved my entire 4BR home contents yesterday!!! Everything from the quoting process to the last box was done, professionally and efficiently. They were the best price out of 6 other moving companies. They told me they would arrive between 9 & 10 am and were at my house 9 am SHARP! The arrival window was between 8-9 and The Crew actually called me at 7:30 to confirm that they would be at my home by 8 (which never happens). In past moves, my (very expensive) Massage Chair and glass Dinning Room Table were mishandled or damaged and this Crew went above and beyond to protect them and even repaired one of the Table legs. They put a hole in my wall, pulled moldings off of the entryway and broke a very expensive corbel on the front of the house. I've been chasing them for about a month and the supervisor (Eugene) has been giving me the run-around. I would advise that you not even consider using this company. Eugene says that his crew denies doing any of the damage. If the supervisor can't trust his crew to be honest with him, how can you trust the company to be honest with you? If you use this company, make sure you watch them closely.

Day of the move, I received 2 texts letting me know how far/close they were to my home. Vlad and Alex arrived on time. Never in my life have I ever been so impressed with the work done for me, and the care that they gave all of my belongings. They were intelligent, motivated, efficient, careful, personable, respectful, and expert. And, although at first, I tried to help, I soon became aware that I was just getting in their way. All I could do is watch and learn. How to wrap and protect furniture (and walls). How to load a dozen or more packed moving moxes into a huge (refrigerator sized) box set on top of 2 dollies - to be rolled from my condo, down a maze of hallways, ouside into the moving truck. Gawd, I was SO relieved to see that my life's belongings were in very conscientious hands. Long story short, there was no doubt I called the right movers. Vlad and Alex were simply magnificent. I wished I was Jeff Bezos for a day, so I could hand each of them a million dollars :) I had been unnecessarily dreading moving day for weeks. Both moves were transfers within my apartment building. In response to my request to get the same team if possible, the new three-person team had the same foreman as the previous three-person team. They once again did an excellent job - called in advance, arrived early, and worked very quickly and efficiently. The foreman planned well which items should be moved between the two apartments in each trip to minimize the number of trips and the work time. The team members were both friendly and professional. As with my previous move, the cost of the job came in well under the estimate due to the team's speedy work. My two experiences with NewRay have been a refreshing contrast to my experiences with other movers over the years. I plan to continue to use them for any future moves.
