It's a random taco Tuesday and we're looking for a new MiAmI adventure! A quick yelping finds a highly rated local gem closeby. Located in a humble old strip mall is Mexican Heaven on plates! There's everything to love here! The place is FIRE!! It's smallish, but punches well over its weight in service, atmosphere, pricing specials, excitement and CUISINE! Our waiter is Gabriel (an angel) with his super fun personality full of spunky energy and a smile that lights up the room. His genuine enthusiasm for the restaurant and all its offerings and chef work shows in abundance. He shows us all the amazing Tuesday deals like $2 taco specials etc & drinks galore, giving us great advice. We opt for the three dips (corn elote, salsa, guac) and house chips to start. Comes out quick, ample portion to share and super fresh. Expert tip: pile all three in a chip, top with another chip and go crazy! The drinks also look terrific, but sadly we choose to have a dry night. Ah well, Next time! I opt for two recommended $2 tacos of carnitas and beef. Highly recommend!! Hubby gets three tacos off regular menu. Still delicious and well priced, chicken, pork & the steak is a real standout. We MUST have dessert! Gabriel recommends exactly what we also have our eye on--horchata soft serve ice cream, so we get one on a brownie! It's a perfect end to a very happy Taco Tuesday meal. Honestly, I don't even know where to start. I absolutely love this place. Taco Tuesday always seemed just too cliché for me, but I was craving a fish taco and found good reviews for A-Mari-Mix. So often we went not realizing the taco Tuesday in this restaurant is a neighbourhood favorite. There was a bit of a line to get in, and the place was packed. They were great tunes playing, and people were at the tables making all kinds of happy noises. We were seated pretty quickly. Our waiter Gabriel was a phenomenal, perhaps one of the best waiters I've ever had. He showed us the taco Tuesday specials, and we instantly forgot that we've come there for fish tacos. Four kinds were only two dollars each for this weekly special but even the specialty tacos or only a small surcharge. We started with the appetizer special that was three dips and tortilla chips. This included guacamole, street corn, and salsa. All three were delicious and it was a pretty large portion. I tried chicken, roast, pork, and steak tacos. The steak was my favorite as it was expertly, marinated and really delicious and tender but one of these tacos was better than any taco that I've had anywhere else. There is a lot of culinary artistry that goes into the recipes. The expertly marinated meats were incredibly tasty and the balance of flavors made for an unexpectedly wonderful dining experience. For dessert, we had a delicious warm, brownie top with Horchata and chocolate sauce. This is all made in the house and was really outstanding. There is nothing about this experience that was not perfect. The vibe of the place just added to the enjoyment of the mail. The food was as good as I've had ever at a Mexican restaurant, including in Mexico. The service was absolutely exceptional. Love this place and will be a regular there. Highly recommended. read more

Don't sleep on this spot! Cuban/mexican cuisine with amazing fun dishes and great service! I started with a tamarind margarita that was 10/10 (warning: must like sour drinks). Had some chips with three dip choices for appetizers that were great. The corn salsa was delicious. For my main, three hearty ropa vieja quesa tacos (shredded beef with cheese sauce). Crispy and crunchy outside with a rich saucy meat and cheese filling. For dessert, horchata ice cream topped fresh brownie. Service was also 10/10. Got crowded around 7pm on a Tuesday. read more

Good Mexican food by a Cuban family and thus, there are slight Cuban twists to some of the dishes, but they stay fairly true to the original cuisine. Restaurant was originally located in Westchester area (97th ave and Coral way) and moved here a few years back - this is a much nicer and bigger location. KEY NOTES: CLOSED on MONDAYS and have a WEEKEND BRUNCH until 3pm with a choice of $6 mimosas in 4 flavors - the guava is my preferred. Mimosas are OK, neither here neither there. All of their food is decent. The queso fundido is good - add the chorizo. The enchiladas are good too. However, I don't like their newest presentation in the skillet with the sides on a separate dish - it's hard to work the cutlery in the tight skillet. Originally this dish came in a larger oval platter. I ask for it to be presented in the original oval platter now whenever I have it. I've not had their tacos, but my guests have and they've found them to be very good in general. For their brunch, the Huevos Rancheros are good, but they apparently make the eggs fully OVERCOOKED even though I specifically asked for them over easy and was told no problem. When I saw them overcooked, I flagged another guy/server passing by who said that's how they make them and couldn't promise otherwise. What? The redo came did end up coming out more runny. My server was very nice - they all generally are nice except the guy I flagged (who I've seen there almost ever time before, but has never been my waiter). The girls are very nice as well; I believe they are the owner's daughters. For dessert, I've had the churros, which are better than in most places but are a too greasy and not sweet enough for my taste. I asked for additional caramel sauce to dip for sweetness, but it's too synthetic for myself to be enjoyable, which is unfortunate because the rest of the food seems to be made with decent quality ingredients. They offer a dessert with a soft serve in cherry flavor, which our very waiter very sweetly took the initiative to bring a sample of for tasting so we could decide on it, and while it tasted OK, it seemed made with the left over liquid in which you preserve maraschino cherries - like someone had the idea: let's not waste this syrup, we can use it to flavor a soft serve. The brunch French Toast is their take on a Mexican French Toast if there was one; made with Mexican tortillas in lieu of, well, French toasts. It was OK, taste was good, and most people will probably love it, but I prefer something that has French toast in it if you are going to call it that given that the toast is the key item of the dish. If you order the French Toast you also need to asks for forks to eat it. A restaurant trigger of mine is how few restaurants understand how to properly plate desserts with a dessert fork vs a dessert spoon - I don't know why everyone associates desserts with a spoon. And worse yet in this case, a soup spoon, not even a smaller dessert spoon. Only soft, creamy, liquid, delicate or layered desserts desserts (i.e. puddings, mousses, custards, ice cream, parfaits, etc.) are to be served with a 'dessert' spoon for easily scooping their soft textures. Firmer desserts with a solid texture, like cakes, pies, tarts, cobblers, etc. are to be served with a 'dessert' fork. Fork tines are the only part of the cutlery suited to cut through and lift these denser desserts without tearing the dessert apart. I know this is an overkill rant for a Mexican restaurant, but try eating a crunchy brittle tortilla (90% of the dessert) with a huge SOUP SPOON ‍ Anywho, to close, this place has good food, good service and good prices. You won't be disappointed :) read more

Overall, good experience. My husband and I went to this restaurant on Saturday around 4 pm, there was no wait. My husband got some sangria which he enjoyed. We got the chips and salsa to start... while they were good, the serving was very small. This is there new location! They used to be in Westchester near Coral Way and 97th Avenue. Same owner! Same great tasting tacos! This is my go-to taco shop. Very friendly staff and easy parking available. The beers are cold and the margaritas are spicy! They have local beers on tap such as Tripping Animals "No Mames" which is a Mexican lager. Get the Cubanito Tacos! These come with sweet plantains inside. The Baja Fish Tacos are also a must. Please make sure to leave some room for dessert. They have the best home-made soft served ice cream. The Horchata Soft Served Ice Cream is to die for. Restaurant is very clean. Plenty of tables and chairs to accommodate parties of all sizes. While visiting family in the area decided to give this place a try. This place really surprised us, we ordered chips and salsa to start while we perused the menu. We decided on Al Pastor and Baja Tacos which we both shared. We must say that we didn't expect it to be so flavorful and a hefty on the portions. The place was well kept and noise level was on the louder side but only because of the large party sitting next to us. Service was good and waitress was attentive. Came back once again for taco Tuesday! These are some of my fav tacos so I couldn't pass up their deal. This time around, I tried some more items off their menu like the ropa vieja tostones, pineapple sangria, and queso fundido. The tacos were great and flavorful as usual, I got the chicken and ropa vieja. I also really liked their tostones and thought they were well portioned. The ropa vieja was seasoned and cooked very well, it was soft not chewy. For a drink, I ordered the pineapple sangria which was yummy but I expected it to be a little sweeter. I wasn't a fan of how they squeezed a lime in, I felt it could do without. I also got to try their queso fundido and honestly wasn't a big fan, it had to be my least favorite. I wanted to try this restaurant after doing a google search for best restaurants in the Kendall area. It did impress. The restaurant has quite a following and expect a crowd especially during peak times. They are located in a small strip mall and there should be enough parking. They offer a weekday happy hour from 4-7 each day and they also do Taco Tuesday with tacos starting at $2 for 4 types, anything after that is slightly higher, still a great deal. My favourite were the mushroom tacos with plenty of the slightly spicy sauce. The refried bean taco, even though it's very tasty is a mess to eat so I recommend using a knife and fork on that one. About 3-4 tacos should do the trick for most people. The serive is spotty but above average and friendly. For some reason on the 2nd order they took all my silverware away and didn't bring it back, so if you go for round #2 I may recommend to guard it. Horchata is the flavour of the day, so if you like that, you will love the ice cream. This place is rather fun and serves up good to great Mexican food. read more
