It's very overfilled and needs a larger space or less inventory to really be more enjoyable shopping experience. THE OWNER IS FRIGHTENING. I was a little scared of her. Raising her voice and yelling at customers. A phone conversation of someone innocently calling to see if they were open almost had her come unglued. Not enough people working today , very unorganized , she was a bit unhinged and I was absolutely shocked at her behavior. I found EXACTLY what I was looking for. I needed a traditional Venetian costume for a "masquerade ball." It was for an art auction, so I wanted to go the extra mile and look as authentic as possible. When I called Masquerade, I happened to speak with the owner who had this specific dress in mind. It fit like a glove. This piece felt like a work of art and was structurally authentic. When I went in to try it on, I had my 19 month old son with me and the staff was extremely helpful. He was essentially running through the store like it was his personal playground and they were so sweet. I was happy to choose this store and support local businesses because stores like this are few and far between. They are so special. They let me rent it for a couple weeks through Halloween, which makes it so much easier as a mom who can't easily get out to Redmond. Ultimately the dress was rad and I felt like I had traveled back in time and received comments all night long. I ended up making the mask to match and I was so thrilled with the result. This is one of the few places left in this area to get special FX makeup supplies! Most of the time, I'm forced to order things online and wait for them to ship. But knowing that this place exists is super handy because then I don't need to wait if I'm running low on liquid latex or bald caps. Their focus is on costuming, but I really appreciate that they offer extras like these to really complete a look. Prices are good too, really fair for what you're getting! read more

Well, Halloween is long past but this place is a secret find and you could probably find some great accessories for Holiday and New Year's Eve Parties! I had no idea this place existed and I've been driving by it for years..... The staff was so helpful and they have such fun,cute costumes and accessories. Ended up getting a feather boa, little black top hat (so cute!), sating gloves and a fedora (for the other half). All together it was $53. If I ever need a cute costume or fun accessories for a party, this is the place! read more

After the conversation I had with the OWNER over the phone today I was compelled to write a review on here for all to know about. I rented a costume for a friend's 20s party in September and returned it with no problems. However, I had to rent my Halloween costume at the same time, with a fee for taking it early. Otherwise they couldn't guarantee that it would be there closer to the holiday. My first sign of doubt - they don't hold costumes for pick up later. I was fine with it because it allowed me to not have to drive to Bellevue from Renton yet another time, saving me gas, but I kept the costume in my house where the cats could get at it and things could happen to it for over a month. Fast Forward to my phone conversation today. I called to see how late they would be open as I need to turn in my costume by today. I was told 6:30pm and I then asked what would happen if I turned in my costume late. The person on the phone handed me off to someone else and she explained that the fee would be half of the price of rental for each day it is late. I then explained that I work until 5pm and was not sure if I could make the 6:30pm deadline for today. The woman on the phone then said something about having the costume for a week in order to get it in before the due date. I said that I rented the costume for Halloween and was told I could bring it back the next Friday. She then asked me if I needed it on Sunday and I asked if she meant last Sunday. She said yes and I told her I did not. Then she proceded to chide me and told me that I had time to turn it in then and that I should have done it. She then told me that I would know better for next time. At this point I was upset with how she was treating me and told her that there would be no next time, thanked her and hung up. It infuriated me that this person would assume I was trying to get something over on her and felt the need to scold me like a child. I never said I wasn't going to pay the fee if I brought it in the next day - she never gave me a chance to say either way. I ended up calling back to complain about the phone conversation and was told that I was speaking to the OWNER during my last phone call. She really will not gain any customers by talking to them in that manner. I understand that she has a business to run, but chiding people and scolding them for asking questions is not the way to gain customers. That's not to say that I don't understand what she was saying to me, but she could have told me in a much better way than making me feel like I was trying to get something over on her. The owner of this company just lost some pretty good business. I enjoyed the store a lot and could see myself renting costumes from them - until that phone conversation. I can find a costume shop that I will be willing to spend a little more money on that is more convenient to get to and more inviting to their customers. Some minor details that lead to this disconnection to the business: 1. Already stated, no holding of costumes, even if the event is over a month away. 2. Not being clear on what can be rented and what is for sale only. I tried on a skirt and was ready to rent it when they had to change it at the last minute because it was an only for sale item. 3. The store is very crowded with costumes and doesn't have much room for walking around and looking at possible costumes. I basically came in and someone had to help me find things because there was no way I could have easily found the parts for the costume I was looking for on my own. 4. The end price is subject to the person who rings you up. While there is a price guide, it hardly is clear to the customer and can be changed at a whim depending on who rings you up. The owner may not be aware of this, but I don't blame the employees for trying to keep the customers happy when they have an owner like that. I could probably come up with more, but I need to run and try to get my costume in before they close today. If I wasn't so stretched for cash right now I would not worry about it and take it in tomorrow, but the economy has hit me hard and I need to end this transaction and business connection as fast as possible. The salesperson said that they would eventiually find what happened to the sale, but she would put a note on the costume to note something. I told her I wouldn't be returning because of the owner and she said alright, and I left. read more

Look no further - this is the greatest costume shop in the Seattle area. I go to a lot of costume parties, and I also throw a lot of my own. Kyra and her staff has never failed to meet my needs. I've shopped here... 30 times? I've lost count of the number of times I've walked in with no idea what to wear and I just tell them the theme, and the staff either (a) digs up the perfect costume for me, or (b) get my creative juices flowing with their ideas so I can piece together my own outfit. You can rent stuff or buy it. I've rented costumes worth $500+ for only about $60 which got compliments all night. If you want to be the guy or girl that people are grabbing at the party to take pictures with you, shop here!! Are there problems with the place? Well, there's an overwhelming supply which might make you dizzy, but that's what the staff is there for. And because of how much stuff they have, I wish the store was larger and less cramped but that's only a problem if you're shopping last minute for big events like Halloween. (There used to be a Georgetown store too, but now everything is in Bellevue.) The only other problem is I wish I had more money to spend here! read more

For my specific needs (i.e. buying a masquerade mask), I would rate this store a 4. Our company had a masquerade ball, and we needed some masks. We stopped by the party stores, but the masks that they had were pretty cheaply made and flimsy, if you could even find a store that had them available. After researching online for stores that had them, I found A Masquerade Costume. They offer a huge selection of masks online, and their store has two walls full of masks: everything from paper mache to leather ones. We were able to find two masks in the 20-30 dollar range and had a good time at the party. One thing to note: there are no returns on the masks once you buy them. This store has a lot of costumes to buy and rent as well. I will have to stop by next time for Halloween. read more

Wonderful selection of costumes and props! This establishment is perfect if your interested in renting a costume for theater, special occasion, or a photoshoot! A lot of the clothes are vintage and some are from the 1800's. Beautiful attention to detail, prompt service and a friendly staff. The only reason why I give this place 3 stars, because they made a mistake with the paperwork and said I didn't return an item to the store, when I actually did, and they were going to charge my credit card for 500 dollars! I was attending the MadMonster show in Bellevue this weekend. At the last minute I called to see if I could get a costume. I was looking for a Columbia from Rocky Horror. I was told they did have one and to come on in. I dropped by an hour later and walked out with a fantastic costume. When I attended my event I was lucky enough to meet Lil Nell. She complimented me on how amazing I looked and several attendees said I was the best dressed they had seen all weekend. The staff was friendly and helpful. I visited their new-ish store in Georgetown. I just happened to drive past a few hours before I was going to the EMP Undead Prom party and popped in as I didn't have a costume. The staff is so helpful and the costumes are way better than what I have seen at other stores in Seattle. I'll definitely go back there next time I'm buying/renting a costume. A Masquerade Costume is the perfect store for a costume or an extra fancy outfit. I had an upcoming banquet where I wanted to go "all out" and A Masquerade Costume had the perfect outfit. I was able to find a sparkle bow-tie, fancy top hat, and extra fancy silver and black tailcoat. Kyra was incredibly helpful and provided options galore. She cares deeply about each person that walked through the door. I cannot recommend this place enough! I love this place!! I had a work event were everyone needed to dress up as a movie character and didn't know what I was going to do. I stopped in this last Friday and was greeted with a store packed with costumes and a staff full of ideas. They were extremely helpful and gave me several ideas. The store is a bit cramped but that's because they have so much to choose from. Themes include Victorian, Barbarian, Steam Punk, Harry Potter, Horror, Masquerade, South Pacific, Disco, Christmas, Rocky Horror and many others. They also have a wide selection of makeup supplies. I would highly recommend this store to anyone for year-round costume needs. read more

I finally got to check this place out, and ended up horrified by how the owner treated another customer. I left and do not plan on returning. I was looking through the (slightly ratty) costumes when I heard the owner go off on a customer who was asking about price differences on Amazon. The customer politely tried to leave, but the owner followed her out to continue the lecture. Then she came back in and kept up the lecture with the employees. I was impressed with the store until I heard the manager talking so incredibly rude to her employee! I think she may have been training this really nice guy. She talked to him like a toddler in a very very stern voice, belittling him, and extremely curt! I was there with friends, so I thought I'd just keep an eye on these two very sweet employees. I decided to pull out my phone because she DID IT AGAIN! To the manager- if you are reading this, you have created a very toxic work environment for young employees who don't know any better! You should be ashamed of yourself for your complete and utter lack of leadership! These two employees accepted your behavior! I wanted to tell them this IS NOT how managers treat their staff! I wanted to tell them they deserve far better than to work in a place where their manager doesn't value their worth!
