This place is a cute little family owned spot and it's SO cute! I feel like not enough people know about this place! Honestly, I didn't know it even existed until I passed it walking in downtown Ripon. The inside is so adorable and instagram worthy. We just got a couple of speciality mimosas, and some apps but the brunch menu sounded amazing. Also, there was a pretty decent wine/cocktail list as well (they're all wine based). I've had lunch - great burger, a few brunches - great eggs benidict, and a few dinners here and I have never been disappointed. The chef (she's not just the cook - she creates) is highly involved in the restaurant. Pro Tip: they usually have specials, so I recommend finding out about them, trying one, and enjoy it with the Pinot Noir they serve by the glass. It seems to go with everything! read more

We found this place on Yelp as they have great reviews. We came in to give it a try on a whim. We stopped in during brunch. It's a lovely restaurant with classy interior decor and a bar with mostly two top tables with chairs and a long padded bench. It's located in historic downtown Ripon. Our server Taylor was very accommodating and polite and had great menu recommendations. We tried a couple mimosas and some chorizo eggs Benny, chorizo hash and the regular eggs Benedict. We also tried the smoked salmon crostini with capers. Everything was very good. The chorizo hash was spectacular and the hollandaise on both versions of Eggs Benedict we sampled was delicious. Great food! We started off dinner with the deconstructed bruschetta and then had the steak and cod for our main courses. Both were specials and were delicious. The wine pairing suggestions were fantastic as well. We were fortunate and somehow managed to have the place almost all to ourselves which was a great way to spend a Friday night after a really long week. We finished off dinner with their special cheesecake. Exceptional!!! I almost want to keep this gem to myself. We enjoyed dinner so much we returned on Sunday for Mother's Day brunch. Wow! Sunday, 8/07/2022 - Went to "A Matter of Taste" restaurant to celebrate a beautiful friend's achievement . Address is 115 E Main St, Ripon, CA 95366. This restaurant is located in the small town of Ripon in their downtown area. It was such a cute restaurant. There was plenty of parking. Upon arrival: Pros: 1) such a cute little restaurant in a cute little downtown area. 2) there's a bar. 3) we had reservations so they set up our table for us. 4) restaurant was clean. Plates, utensils, cups, table, chairs were all clean. No stickiness. 5) water tasted good. No metal or funky taste. 6) our server was very nice and professional. He checked in on us several times and refill our waters without us having to ask. 7) all of the foods we got were very good. 8) bathroom was clean. It's one room for men or women. 9) our server was so sweet. He took our group photo for us. And even after we ate, we just sat and chat and they never kicked us out. Cons: 1) none! Conclusion: I really liked this little restaurant. It was so cute. Love the ambiance, the good, the great customer service, and the foods. I recommend this restaurant. Yes, the previous reviews are good, but after seeing the menu on the website, it was the options that drove me to suggest this place to my Wife. We parked right in front, and the Friday Night Special board was right there, and the steak option was a quick decision. I did have to look up what Chimichuri sauce was, but that is do to my ignorance. Service was great, app was awesome (bruschetta), and my steak was cooked how I requested, and tasted wonderful. My wife and I were both very happy with the entire meal. This place deserves your business, so give it a try. read more

A number of great things about this establishment: 1) the ambiance is very nice, and is always inside. 2) the food is always made fresh, never lacks in flavor, and is typically different in a delicious way. They pair flavors very well with each other, and with the wine. 3) the service is ALWAYS on point. Elijah is typically my server and he is kind, honest, and positive. He knows the menu quite well, and gives great recommendations for food and wine mixes. Service was ok, but the food was lacking.  I have never had an Eggs Benedict with an untoasted english muffin.  If that's the was it is normally served, it was a mushy mess (Crab Benedict).  I did have an issue that I didn't bring up at the time since we were there for a party and didnt want to dampen the mood.  I am a huge believer that my change is mine to do what I want with.  I can give it back to the server as an additional tip, on top of the 20% that was already added to our tab, or keep it.  It's my money.  It really irks me when the server never brought my roughly $3 change after the 20% tip.  I never said keep the change.  I had planned on giving it to him, but the fact he just kept it irked me.  It's not the amount of money...it's the principle that he assumed it was his. Update to owners response, yes Id love a copy of the reciept because I gave more cash than the total on the tab. If I was given an incorrect tab, ie without tax, how is that my fault as we should have been given the total we owed and I made sure to add plenty to cover 20% tip and change. The ONLY reason I'm not giving five stars is because I think the price is VERY steep for Ripon. I was visiting from the East Bay and a bread/cheese/fruit board is only $6.50 and one receives cheese, artisanal bread, candied nuts and jam! For $18.99, you get two pieces of white cheese (from a deli,) cut in four small, thin squares, another cheese, cubed, a thin bread, which wasn't too bad AND ... green olives with pimentos! Oh, one kiwi cut in half and two slices of dragonfruit More like a plate than a board, though! Other than that, we had two salads and two sandwiches. The $14 salad was the size of a small dinner salad, not worth it. The sandwiches were very tasty, on an amazing ciabatta bun, which was accompanied with eight pieces of miscellaneous greens ... which I assume they consider a salad. I came to this business to try the food due to one of my coworkers telling me about it. Walked in the wrong door since I believe one side is the bakery. The employee was welcoming and told me the restaurant was actually the next door over but to go take a seat anywhere on the patio and she will bring me a menu. I went and sat in the back corner of the patio and didn't think anything of it. The employee I spoke to when I entered the wrong door brought me a menu and water. Then a few minutes later the waiter came out and told me I needed to move because I was sitting at the table that was open for a larger party. Then he proceeded to grab my water out of my hands to move me to another table. I was a little shocked by his demeanor and approach that I actually left the business and went next door. I brought my family here to celebrate new baby on the way. I saw yelp reviews and thought it was a safe choice with great rewards to come. Arrived at 1pm, and waited over 30 minutes for coffee and water. There was a large group before us, but waiting for beverages was unsettling. Our family member was over 8 months pregnant and I wasn't leaving after she got comfortable. Our food slowly arrived around 1:45pm... not all at the sale time at all. One of us got food and the others waited another 10-15 minutes. Vegetarian received meat in omelet. My side of potatoes came cold and before my omelet, so I ate those not knowing when the rest come. Only 2 of 4 guests got utensils. We were given whole decanter of coffee at table, which was odd. I guess so they didn't have to check in at table? Black widow on wall behind one of us as my mom flagged waiter and begged him to come deal with it.., he never did. Never again will we eat here. No apologies and no manager came to explain the wait. Very unhappy and upset we paid for cold food, poor service and at moments no service. read more

So like a lot of others, it pains me to give a poor review to a local establishment, but man, this just is not a great spot if you're coming to eat dinner! As the name of the place says, it IS a matter of taste, and unfortunately their food just didn't have it. We paid $35 per entree for extremely small portions. Two people had the crab linguini which was missing crab and was basically some noodles in a non existent sauce. The other two had the short ribs over the Mac and cheese. I mean, it was OK? But I would never ever pay what I did knowing I could get a steak at the Roadhouse two doors down for the same price. Finally, we ordered the loaded tater tots as an appetizer and after 10 minutes the server says that they don't have any tots but can make the appetizer with baby potatoes instead. We didn't complain, but when the appetizer came out, the baby potatoes were extremely undercooked--seriously, they were snapping as we bit them. Pretty bad. The 2 stars are for the server who was attentive and nice. Too bad his food recommendations were so wrong. At lease the ice cream emporium was right across the street since we left Matter of Taste with still a large appetite. 5 stars to the ice cream emporium for finishing the job! They are cheep skates! An extra thimble size container with salad dressing 2.99? After spending $16.00 for 2 sandwich's each with a small salad plus beers, you would think they would say sure no problem so we would come back? What if I didn't like their recommended dressing? If you live near Ripon, CA or just passing through the area, do yourself a favor and treat yourself to a well made affordable meal prepared by kind souls! After careful review of many area restaurants I came across A MATTER  OF TASTE. The owners helped me put together a catered meal for a dear family struggling with the loss of a wife and mother just before Christmas. I live out of state and have not had the privilege to meet them or patronize their restaurant.  I was hoping to find delicious food with quality ingredients and someone easy to work with since this arrangement was all sight unseen.  And that's exactly my experience - quick response and good communication.  The catered meal was prepared and delivered sooner than planned! Did I mention it looked amazing, check out the pics! These are wonderful kind-hearted people to work with.  Thank you for helping me give some comfort to a family at a most difficult time - the family enjoyed the food. Pleasantly surprised to stumble upon this gem. We wanted to sit outside, but was a very hot day so opted to go inside. Our server, Gladys, was friendly and helpful in choosing lunch. No....that is the best advice I can give. Try somewhere else. Wanted to enjoy an afternoon on the patio with a flight and light snacks. The waitress was less than pleasant. Tables were wobbly and in the sun. Received menus, but nothing was available. Every flight we wanted was gone. Every food option....gone. We could not get an understanding of what was available from the waitress. Ended up walking out and heading to Modesto. Not sure how they run a restaurant without food and beverages.
