Amazing place. Amazing location. Amazing staff. I brought my two daughters and niece (ages 5 to 11) and they had something for everyone. Saule was incredibly helpful and nice! When my 5 yo acted up, she was super calm and understanding. She even helped us perfect her piece. Saule also expedited all the pieces for us because we live out of the area and were leaving in a couple of days. If I lived in the area I'd want a membership or discount because I'd be back and there's an $8 painter's fee (which adds up!). HIGHLY recommend!!!! read more

Every Saturday when I was younger, I used to go to Ceramics Corner in Throggs Neck and paint a number of ceramic pieces. When they closed back in the late 90s, I pretty much put the hobby to bed. Recently my cousin wanted to start painting pottery and asked if I would join her - it sounded fun so I said yes. A Maze in Pottery is a ceramics studio located in a small strip mall right off Route 9A in Briarcliff Manor. The main area is kind of narrow - there are tables set up on one side of the studio with shelves of (fired) ceramic pieces along the other. The price is right - they only charge a flat rate of $8 to sit and paint your piece, and if you need to return to the studio another day to finish they charge a return fee of $4; the prices of the pieces vary. The selection of ceramics is huge - they have a number of pieces ranging from simple to exquisitely detailed, and decorative pieces to practical ones like mugs, plates, and trays. When we arrived there were a few tables occupied but it wasn't too busy. We chose our pieces, paint colors, and went at it. There are a number of techniques with painting, firing, and glazing ceramics; the way Amaze in Pottery does it is they keep your piece after you're done painting and re-fire/glaze it to give it a shiny-smooth finish. Because of this technique, you'll have to apply a number of coats to your piece (I did at least three), and you'll have to return to the studio about a week later to pick up your piece. I can imagine this place gets pretty packed on the weekends and around the holidays, but we went on a weeknight in late September so it wasn't bad at all. The staff is super friendly and eager to help you with anything - they also have theme events and an email newsletter they send out. Overall I had a lot of fun, it brought back great memories from my childhood =) Definitely a great place to go with friends if you want to do something different and crafty. read more

I recently came here with a friend. We had a really fun time painting the ceramics - I painted a mug and she a salt+pepper shaker. There were a huge array of options to choose from, including leaf plates, Disney princess figurines, and animals. We loved the ambience and the workers were extremely helpful and friendly. Brought my wife and my 3 year old daughter here in my wife's birthday. I didn't really know what to expect, but thought it would be something different that we could do together as a family and create a unique and meaningful gift for my wife together. I figured we would each make something and be in and out in about a half hour. We ended up making a coffee mug all together between the three of us. We were there for two and a half hours. Everyone working there was very welcoming, accommodating, friendly, and helpful the whole time without being intrusive or too on top of you. We all really enjoyed the whole experience. I've been to may pottery painting studios and 'A Maze in Pottery' is by far the best. While it can get quite busy, a testament to what a great place it is, the staff does a great job of time and people management. It is a family run business which is very apparent and the entire staff was so accommodating, friendly and helpful! They have such a wide range of great pottery to choose from and what my family loves the most is the unique techniques of painting that they so willingly share with the customers. Nancy and Agatha were so helpful it really made our experience there great! It is such a great place to spend a quality day with friends or family. They also have adult paint nights which I will definitely be going back for, as well as a calendar of events for all ages! I've been here a few times over the past few years and it's always been a good experience. It's usually busy but the staff does a good job of helping out if you need more paint or clean water for washing brushes in. They have quite a large selection of things that can be painted. Every time I've gone in they always have had new pieces too. I just went yesterday with my son who is in kindergarten and he really enjoyed it. Came here with my cousins,grandma and aunts on a Friday night for happy hour from 6-8. BYOF &BYOB. Tons of pottery pieces to choose from and also a great assortment of paints and glazes. Helpful staff. Only thing I would suggest is a 30 minute warning before they want to wrap up to close. Around 7:50 the employee announced they were closing in 10 minutes so the end was a bit rushed. My family and I love a maze in pottery. All the workers are very polite and extremely helpful. They answer all of our questions thoroughly and take the time to explain how to make our pieces look amazing. I have made quite a few pieces there now and I will definitely be going back for more. The possibilities are endless and nothing says you care then to give something you made yourself and this is the perfect place to do that. And to top it off, you cannot beat the prices.
