I came here for the first time on Mother's Day. Overall, the staff were very helpful and accommodating. The selection is nice as well! However, there was a particular worker who was very rude and hostile to me. I am not sure if I was mistaken for someone else, as it was from when I first started interacting with her. It's a shame as I love the activity, but I will not be returning as her behavior made it an uncomfortable and disheartening experience for me. read more

Had a great time at this place recently. Came with my friends for adult night. Thought that you could bring your own wine. They don't have their license to have alcohol here. So that was a bummer for "adult night". They have not only ceramic painting. They also have candle making and such. They have different events for different days. Fun for people all ages. Came to paint ceramics and it takes a while to do. They have objects from candle holders, statues, mugs and even brushes. So different than any other ceramic place I've seen. Good vibes in this place. Seems like lots of regulars come here. They have different paint for different objects as well. There is street parking. This is not your run of the mill pottery and paint spot, while it may appear to be, it's more well run than many others I've frequented. Their client service makes the whole experience that much better. Not to mention the ceramic and pottery options you get to paint. The space is super clean and very Zen. Soft music, warm lighting, and super helpful/friendly staff. This is my favorite spot to come every Mother's Day with my children so we can chill and they can paint me a masterpiece we can use at home. Am making a small collection. The best part is also how reasonably priced they are. You can spend hours in here (I do), and it doesn't feel like you have. I particularly love their creative ideas the staff offers should you need it or just look around at their projects for inspiration. My favorite thing was learning to use the silk screen stencil on a tray I was painting. Fascinating technique and beautiful outcome when it was ready for pick up a week later. This place is great! I'm all about arts and crafts and coming here is was great. They have a large selection to choose from of all different things. Mugs, plates, serving trays, piggy banks, decorative things and more. Some of it is a tad pricey and some are reasonably priced. I came here today after not having enough time last night. The first time I went, I was there for about an hour and was shocked when we walked in today and everyone remembered us and was super nice and super friendly. The staff here is great. They were interacting with the kids that were there and the adults as well. The only drawback to this place is that they do charge a sitting fee unlike the other places I've been to. A lovely little place to paint some ceramic plates, cups, bowls, and a variety of other options as well!! My fiancé and I have been several times and enjoy the experience every time. The staff are cordial and patient, especially when working with small children and families for shorter visits and when hosting children's birthday parties in the basement level. The options for different ceramic items to paint is expansive, but they run out of the desirable ones fairly quick sometimes. (My fiancé and I are always on the look out for the notorious large size popcorn bowl to paint together. But it's one of their top items and after more than four visits, we've yet to get to paint one.) Overall: a great place to spend an hour or two and paint something for your home or office. Completely in love with this place. I came here in search of Mother's Day presents, and made some things that I'm so excited to give my mom. First, the service is amazing. The people who work here are so passionate about what they do, so sweet, and so accommodating. I wish there was a way I could've made their day the way they made mine. Second, they have a relatively big collection of pieces for you to choose from, from picture frames to vases to mugs to animals to piggy banks to bowls to pots and so on and so forth. I love how there are pieces done by the staff on display; not only are they beautifully done, but they also give you ideas for your own pieces. Also, there's a candle-making station, and I'd love to try that next time. Third, it's a great place for either a birthday party, a friends gathering, a date, or just an outing to make your day. Because it rains a lot in New York, which explains why everything is so lush and gorgeous, when I recently visited my daughter, we made "in case of rain" plans with the specific goal in mind of doing something fun and different, which brings me to my review of MUDDWORKS....... where we truly did something fun and different. Ironically, it never rained, but we were so enamored with trying this that we went ahead and stuck with the plan of going to Muddworks. Muddworks is a wonderful resource for getting one's creativity on by way of painting already made pottery pieces. They provide the pottery, the paint, all the supplies you could think of.... and then some. You pick what piece(s) you want to paint, pick the paint colors, any added stencils or decorating tools. The pottery itself is wonderful. They have so many kitchen-y pieces. They have decorative containers, picture frames, religious pieces. They have cute kid-themed pieces, things for adults. If you can't find anything you like to paint, then it's on you because there are many shelves of things to choose from, and it's all wonderful...... truly, something for everyone, young and old. They provide places to sit, brushes, even smocks, and away you go painting your heart out with upbeat music playing in the background. WOWWWWWW. It was soooooooooooooooo much fun. While there were loads of kids shuffling in and out with one birthday party after another, here we were....... a 31 and 60 year old sitting there and painting to our heart's content.... and we certainly weren't the only adults painting, either !! They charge a price for each piece of pottery that gets painted, plus they charge a very reasonable amount ($8.00) for each hour spent painting. We got there at 11 and didn't leave until nearly 2:00. After we were done, they take the painted pieces, and after 1 week to 10 days, you have a beautifully glazed piece of pottery that (hopefully) looks like you had intended. The paint colors (pre-glazing) are much lighter than once they are fired. However, they offer "swatches" of what the colors look like once glazed, so you can get a sense before you select the paint colors. Since I wasn't going to be around when the pieces were done, I elected to make something for my daughter...... a spoon rest for her kitchen. She made a decorative container. I cannot tell you how much fun we had; I just wish I lived closed....... I'd be in this place A LOT !! I couldn't believe how little time I typically give the creative side of my brain. I think that happens to a lot of us. It's not even that I'm a good painter. Nor did I get caught up in that judgmental nonsense because it was just pure, unfiltered FUN. I honestly think I had more fun than the children did. My daughter, too !! Well, all's I can say is THANKS, Muddworks....... you TOTALLY rock !! When it comes to artistic expression i'm a bit of a caveman. I think I have some dexterity issues so i'm really horrible at drawing and painting and stuff like that. And so when my daughter said she wanted to paint pottery for her birthday outing. I was not exactly excited. So when we arrived i was surprised to see so much activity... people were painting, or picking paint, or choosing pottery pieces and everyone seemed to be really enjoying themselves. And yes my children, both my son and my daughter really had a lot of fun. The thing is my wife was helping my daughter who is pretty good at painting... and i was helping my son who is artistically challenged... (what can i say he takes after me). so there were many points throughout the time we were there when i felt tempted to just snatch away the paint brush from him and do it for him. LADIES NIGHT- My sister and I stopped decided to come here on a thursday night because of ladies night. It's a one time $8 studio fee for three hours. We had such a great time painting. They have cups, dishes, bowls, piggy banks, letters, jewelry holders, frames, etc. The entire place is filled with color and sample decorations to inspire you with ideas. When we found the place the street was closed off for outside dining, live music, and tables to paint outside. I think it's a summer festival and they play every thursdays, which is perfect for ladies night. It is also BYOB so you are more than welcome to bring food/wine/snacks to keep you company. We had such a great time bonding and channeling our inner artists. The ladies working were extremely helpful and kind. I asked them for ideas, color recommendations, and they also helped out with drawing if you needed assistance. This was my first time going to a pottery painting studio, and I had such an amazing experience at MuddWorks! Me and my boyfriend came in on a Saturday afternoon, and the place was empty. The environment was so relaxing, and I love the number of pottery options that are available to paint on - there are definitely some more options in store that aren't mentioned in the online catalog which was a nice surprise. The staff is so friendly, and there are absolutely no complaints about the service. You can tell that they care, and that they want to help; one of the staff members even helped me write on my mug! Overall, I loved coming here and I am definitely going back again. It's also such a treat to see the final product; it took about a week and a half for my mug to be finished and the colors are so vibrant! Overall a 10/10 experience :) read more

A great place to paint your own pottery! When you first walk in, the environment is very calm and relaxing with a huge selection of pottery bisques (over 300!) to chose from. The painting area is set up in the front of the store and there they also hold events/parties downstairs for little kiddies and grownups alike. I didn't get to paint anything but then next time I go I'd like to channel my inner artist and create a work of genius (in my eye, anyway). Pricing: Studio fee - $8 first hour, $4 second hour, and free afterwards. Bisque piece is individually priced and from what I quickly browsed it was pretty affordable. After you finish painting, they glaze and fire the piece and you can pick it up about a week later. There was a piece of art in the bathroom and I was wowed. You can see that the owners of the place took great attention to detail throughout the whole store and their creative minds are firing things up. Planned a bridal shower here and it's a very cute place. We booked the private room which accommodates 30 people. There was 3 workers there to explain, help and show us what we needed to do. They were very helpful and sweet. There were a ton of different pieces that you can choose from and with so many options I couldn't decide. I would have given this place 5 stars except some of the pieces that I really wanted they were sold out. Wish there had more stock of everything. I can't wait to go back another time..... read more

Awesome establishment! Took my entire family there for my mom's birthday. Ages ranged from 3 years old to folks in their 60's. Believe it or not, the adults were way more into it than the kids! (You really get to witness some people's OCD kick in haha). The staff was pleasant and patient with our many questions. You go in and pick out the piece/item you want to paint. So many to choose from... Practical pieces such as mugs, toothbrush holders, coin banks, flower pots and much more. The staff will take about 5 minutes to teach you about the various types of paint available. Then you're off! You can also make candles! It was superrrrr easy to make, you just choose the shape of the mold and then pick the colors of the cubes. When you're done they fill the rest in with scented wax (you choose the scent). It takes about 30 minutes for it to set so if you can wait 30minutes you can bring your candle home the same day. They painted clay however takes a week before you can pick it up because they have to cook it in the fire. There are two bathrooms, one has a changing table. They offer coat rack and aprons if you don't want your clothes to get dirty. You're allowed to bring in your own food, beverages and snacks to munch on as you paint. Advice: my kids wanted to do multiple pieces (ages 3 and 5). I think the next time I go I'll let them choose 2-3 small pieces rather than one regular item. I came here on a friend's recommendation and I was pretty impressed. Being a paint it yourself shop, I was expecting to find a messy, paint filled store but my entire perception of the place was completely shattered the second I walked in. The place is immaculately clean. There was no signs of residual paint left by any previous customers. The tables were clean, the paint materials were stored away nearly at the back of the store. It was a pleasant surprise. Being that it's a family owned store, you get that personalized service every time. I've heard that it does get busy at times with all the big parties coming in but I didn't experience any of that. They have a pretty large selection of paintable items to choose from. I expected the place to be quieter and less crowded, but since it was the time of the holidays when the kids are out of school, the place was crowded with moms and their children everywhere. Word of advice, if you want to go during a quieter time, go on Thursdays during their "Ladies Night" or when there have not been holidays recently. Other than that, the workers there are very helpful, especially if you are a first timer. You do not have to be a professional pottery painter to have a good time. They have a decent selection of pretty paint colors and stencils for you to work with. Also, there's a good selection of ceramics to choose from (mugs, plates, clay dragon/car/etc figurines, etc). If you do have a larger party, definitely RSVP before you go. I got lucky to get a table for 2 when I went. What stinks is that you cannot get your pottery the day you go. You have to pick it up when it's been fire glazed after about 6-10 days. Again, during the holidays, the workers have more to deal with, so the pick-up waiting time can increase. So, if you're visiting, this is not a place to go to (unless you're in town for 10+ days). Also, bring a good $30. Usually, staying 2+ hours costs a flat rate of $12 and with the cost of my mug ($15), I ended up spending around $30. It is a bit costly, but since it's a place I would only go to once in a while, it was worth it. Other than that, I had a great time there, and somehow 3-4 hours flew by quickly because I was so focused on painting and having fun. I've been here 3 times, and have enjoyed each visit. The staff are incredibly welcoming, helpful, and accommodating. I found the space to be very clean and neat. There's also pretty good music playing softly in the background. Even though there were children giggling and people talking, I was still able to feel calm and relaxed. There's a joyful atmosphere in this place. There is usually a pretty good selection of pottery to choose from. Unfortunately, I believe some pieces were sold out due to parties that were held right before my last visit. Stencils and books for inspiration are available for those who need them. If you're afraid of them not having what you're looking for, you can always research, before visiting, and bring in your print out. In my case, I asked the staff for help. I wanted to paint a Domo character on a dip cup (genius for controlling cookie portions), but didn't know how. Yes, it's just a few sharp triangles for teeth, and two dots for eyes.. but... I felt good, knowing that I wasn't judged on my lack of skills to make basic lines and circles. I actually learned a cool trick in how to make a "perfect" circle". It's definitely a therapeutic experience. Thankful for the business and committed staff at Mudd Works. OH, almost forgot... they have candle making options, now... for those who would rather not paint. They are really fragrant, and quite large. If you are really sensitive to scents, I'd advise you not to sit near the area where they're shaping the candle. Although they smell great, they can be overpowering. read more

I took my 2 year old here and his best friend who is also 2 and they had a great time painting pottery, they were very child friendly: they accommodated them with huge stamper paint brushes and tot-sized aprons. After the two had painted to their hearts content the girl there helped us to put their handprints on their masterpieces and---- this is the best part--- did all the writing for us so it looked totally professional! His friend made her daddy a pot and the girl turned her finger prints into bugs and flowers and wrote some cute little garden phrase on it. This place is pretty awesome! The process is very easy and fun. Upon entering the store the atmosphere was cheery and very organized. Came with my bf around 3 pm on a Thursday and we were the only ones there. The person that helped us went through all the steps and gave us very clear instructions. My bf painted a cookie monster cup and i painted a honey pot mug. There was a variety of choices of pieces to paint but also limited that day because they were expecting a new shipment the next day. We ended up spending 54$ there because we each got a piece costing around $16 and $14, we stayed there about hours if not more. Will definitely come here again and probably bring friends read more

I love this place! I came here after reading reviews on Yelp, and have since come back at least 6 times in the past couple months. Marilyn is SUPER nice, helpful, kind, and patient. She gives you plenty of ideas and has amazing artistic skills. She's helped me salvage many mistakes and has even helped me outline with a thin black brush because I'm a clutz with fine motor skills. If you want to re-create any image you see online, she'll print it out and you can trace it onto your piece. They have a huge selection of pottery pieces, all for a reasonable price. The sitting fees are also great: $8 for the 1st hr, $4 for the 2nd hr, no fee for the 3rd hr on. Unbelieveable! Other places charge $9 per hour and even charge you if you go over by 1 minute-- this happened at another pottery painting place. Weds they have 2 for 1 studio fee. Thurs they have Ladies Night 6-9pm (age 16 yrs +) $8 flat studio fee + price of pottery. She even lets you bring your own drinks and food! When the pottery pieces are ready for pick up, her assistant calls (about 7-10 days later). They'll even have you double park outside and bring it to your car so that you don't have to find parking-- talk about AMAZING customer service!!! Everyone that I've brought so far LOVED it and are bringing other people. The studio is clean, neat, and warm, with soft music playing in the background-- even the bathroom is clean & well decorated. Marilyn always comes around and asks if you need help. The sitting area is very spacious. You don't feel like your neighbor is ontop of you. They provide smocks for everyone. They also have candle making, but I haven't tried that yet. Parking 1/2 block away: Bond St & Grace Ave (entrance on Bond St). $0.25 for 1 hr-- I thought that was a mistake, but it really is that cheap! Parking is free after 6pm. I visited Mudd Works for the first time today. Pros-- Staff is very friendly and helpful, and the options for colors and supplies seemed plentiful! It is also therapeutic to paint, like other reviewers have said, except if you're a perfectionist like me (I got stressed every time I thought I smudged the paint, but it turned out fine :). Nice bright studio, and the teen-aged girls I brought seemed to enjoy themselves! Cons-- It IS a bit pricey, but I expected that for the service and the product you get. We went on the 2 for 1 sitting-fee-deal (which is $8 for the first hour, total of $12 afterwards, not counting the piece you paint), but it still came out to a significant bill. I think it was worth it though! Another con which unfortunately can't really be controlled, is that sometimes the studio fills up with rowdy kids that may run around the store. And finally, there is metered parking spots, but depending on the day, you may have a hard time finding a spot to park. All in all, worth checking out! It's a nice place. The workers are friendly but I didn't find them to be as interactive as other places. They have a nice variety but it's sort of limited especially compared to fun time pottery in Franklin square. It was more expensive too but I'm assuming cause of it's location. I liked how they brought the pottery out to your car when you needed to collect it too. read more

We hosted a bridal shower here and had so much fun! The staff were so accomodating (helped with setting up, pouring wine, etc) and helpful throughout the painting process. We rented out the space upstairs and it was perfect for a party of 19! The entire process was seamless and stress-free.
