The visit to A.O.K Tires on Main street today has left me with renewed faith in the human race! Long story short we found ourselves in Apopka in our 1989 Itasca Suncruiser "Gertie". Gertie is older and her tire size 8R 19.5 is very very hard to come by. If you can find them, they are expensive, and have to be ordered/shipped, etc. We spent days calling around to different tire shops in search of a front steer tire for Gertie. The lowest price we received was $220 + $40 installation/tire with brand new tires being the only choice as used tires in that size are unheard of at this point in time. After days of calling and searching on Facebook we found what we thought was a "good deal". *R 19.5 tires never mounted (sitting in a barn). We purchased 4 tires for $250 cash and were very excited to get them installed today. We were recommended this shop by another tire store (as it was closer, and Gertie had wires protruding from her R Front tire), so we limped her down the road to A.O.K tire. After arriving a gentleman came out and assessed our Gertie, and the tires we purchased. We explained we wanted 2 mounted on the front, one for the spare , leaving one extra. The assessor stated that "he had to go ask his manager as the tires are dry rotted and the sidewalls were showing thin striations/cracks that were invisible until enough pressure was applied". WE explained that we had purchased them on FB marketplace and did not have ANY money to purchase more tires, much less brand new ones. We are living in this RV with our animals and though it isn't much, she IS ALL WE HAVE at the moment. He left, and we felt defeated. WE did not have any other options as we had spent $250 on these tires that we were being told that we couldn't use. He returned in a bit and explained that "they were unable to mount the tires we purchased as it was a liability and not safe to do so". He surprised us both with what he said next..... "I know you guys do not have the budget for new tires, so we are going to DONATE 2 used tires (225/70/R 19.5) to you all". We were in shock! Utter and total disbelief that people we did not know (much less a small business) would be kind enough to not only DONATE the tires we desperately needed, but also the INSTALLATION cost. In a few short hours we were on our way with 2 used steer tires (and a third mounted on the spare tire rim), with nothing owed but a friendly handshake and "Goodluck"! Needless to say, we are very grateful for the crew at A-okay tires in Apopka. We are so very thankful that there are still good people out here among us all! The residents here are lucky to have good folks and buisness' here who recognize and offer a helping hand in times of need. You know how you occassionally wonder, "when karma will come round?" I can't speak for everyone at the shop but I can speak for my experience with the service writer bill. This guy either doesn't understand what he's talking about or tries to give you the run around. I was told alignments are $129, but since I have a lifted truck with adjustable control arms that need to be removed to be adjusted it would be $150. I asked if while the control arms are removed if new grease fitting nipples and camber bolts could be installed that I had. I was told sure it'll be about $179 to get that done since it's more time and more labor hours on the vehicle. When I show up things change. He looks at it and explains how they're gonna align it and how the machine uses lasers etc and tells me its probably gonna a couple hundred dollars and will probably be $250 or more and he'll call me if it goes higher than that before they keep billing. Being I have been a mechanic myself I asked how we got from $129 to $150 to a couple hundred dollars. He claims oh if they get it up on the lift they might have to fight the axle to adjust the control arms( I didn't have the fight the axle at all to install them on the ground of my driveway and I wish I could have a lift because I would have made the job even easier) and that this was the reason the labor could go a couple hundred dollars. This is bait and switch just to get me there obviously. Once I brought up how i had spoken with him specifically on the phone and was very specific about what I had going on, to the point that he googled my lift kit for my truck and said he understood exactly how it worked He said to me that he has hundreds of vehicles come through and speaks to a lot of people so he forgot, but of course back peddled into saying he couldn't have given a quote without seeing it first. He did, plenty of other shops do as well it's not something out of the ordinary to get done but regardless the labor itself is not what he's making it out to be. It's not rocket science, its not some crazy technology and he claimed they've done them all the time before suddenly "not knowing how long it might take" but I digress. He then he said well let's just put it on the lift for $60 to see how much it's going to cost and I'll call you back tomorrow. I can't imagine why this man would think I'm going to let him touch my vehicle after the mental rollercoaster we just went through. I have never in my life been told an alignment wouldn't really have any ballpark figure other than "couple hundred bucks, could be two three hundred I can't really say". Atleast he offered to do half of my front end alignment for more only $30 more than the original quote for the alignment. Based on my experience I wouldn't trust these guys with a toy truck let alone my personal vehicle. Just seems like someone is trying to take advantage of people he thinks don't know what they're talking about. I called this company because a friend recommended them being that he had bought some tires here and because I simply didn't feel like aligning the front end myself. Instead I got jerked around. Pick a different advisor or just spend your money anywhere else. read more

They and Bill checked everything out the next day and I went happily on my way. Super service and they treat their customers (even strangers like me) like family. I came here for a nail in my tire. I always try to use local businesses versus big name companies so I ventured here. I did not have a good experience, the gentlemen I handed my car off to was rude and made no eye contact, the clerk up front tried to get me to buy 4 new tires and they charged me $35 to patch the hole when it's absolutely FREE EVERYWHERE ELSE BUT HERE!! I understand they want sales & profit, but poor service and overcharging is not the way to get returning customers, and I certainly won't be returning. Go to discount tire down the street, they are warm, inviting & always talk you through your options and don't overcharge. If you get a nail in your tire, go somewhere that is both free & friendly! read more

I came by today in desperation, after Walmart claimed they couldn't repair my punctured tire. Usually my husband takes care of anything automotive, but he was gone all day on a field trip. I needed it taken care right away, because of a trip we're taking as soon as my husband gets back. Anyway, to make a long story short, (too late) they were able to repair my tire, put it back on for me, and they didn't even charge me anything! I will definitely come back again when the need arises! read more

My back tire needed looked at. You know it's a good shop when you walk in and you see a bunch of big trucks in the parking lot and a lot of working, service men dropping their trucks off. (People that rely on their vehicles for their jobs and that put a lot of time and money into their cars don't mess around with getting their cars up and running again.) It looked pretty busy, but the very friendly office manager said that he could get me in about an hour, so I went to the gym and returned. After handing my keys over, and waiting in the ACed waiting room, in a flash they had it done. As with other mechanics, I waited to hear all the other problems they found, but with only a smile, the mechanic handed over my keys, and I was on my way- no sales pitch needed. I WILL be back with a cooler of cold gatorades for the guys working in this heat and I'll be sure to tell my husband that we found our new place in Apopka! read more

Don't put your trust in a company that treats customers (especially stranded ones!) so dismissively. RV tire blown on Interstate 4....2 hours later with multiple calls and assurances that we would receive a call from the On Call Technician we still waited for some response. Yay or Nay would have sufficed....you can do it or you can't....our insurance coordinator got the same responses. read more

I've been to this shop many times over the years and have never had the greatest experience, but always just assumed that they were busy and being mechanics, customer service wasnt necessarily going to be their strong point. Anyway, went to inquire about getting the a/c in my car fixed. 1st, I had to wait while the man in front of me and the guy behind the counter talked about the "old days". Meanwhile, the woman sitting at a desk behind him sat there literally doing nothing. Eventually, she gets up to walk out of the lobby, only to advise me that "someone would be right with me". Not her, not the 2 or 3 other people walking around behind the counter (maybe they were busy), but the one guy discussing the history of Apopka. When I finally do get recognized, I tell the man, I've been given a quote before, but didn't remember what the amount was because it was a while ago, but I was looking to get my a/c fixed. The man just walks away, picks up the phone and calls for "Chris". He then comes back and says, "Chris is the shop manager, he'll be able to answer my questions". Now, mind you, I am a very patient person (sometimes too patient), so I waited...and waited. People coming and going. Both customer and employees. After waiting for about another 10 mins and another call to "Chris", finally, Chris comes out with a paper in hand, walks to the front counter, lays the paper down and begins to walk out of the room. At no point did he ask anyone why he was called to the front or even ask me (1 of 2 people in the lobby) if I needed help. I mean, I understand, not everyone is a people person, but there has to be some kind of attention paid to customers or potential customers that walk in to your establishment. They've obviously come to you for a reason. I've spent a lot of money here over the years, but I guarantee, nobody in this place knows my name. Is that a deal breaker? No, but being a small business like this, you should have some sense of making people feel welcomed. Making them feel like they're appreciated for bringing their business to you. You're a mechanic, in Apopka. There are mechanics in Apopka every 1/2 mile. I don't understand how you can afford to be so careless about customers. read more
