I ordered children's tables for our event. They are closed weekends so pick up is Fridays & returns are Monday morning. Was able to take the tables to the venue for set up and what do you know... regular size table. There is no emergency contact so there's no one that would be able to assist with correcting this issue. I tried to call & email but of course that was just me hoping for the best. They had what we wanted and they delivered it on time. The chairs were a little worn but not wobbly -- just the finish was a little rough. The pads on the chairs were clean (impressive being that they were "white.") They took our order with no deposit and we just called back on the Monday before our party and confirmed the order. Being new to throwing parties, this made me a little nervous thinking they would "give away" what we wanted to a bigger party--but true to their word--it all worked out fine. Super easy to work with. We ordered 30 chairs and 4 wine barrels with 30 inch round tops. We had a tiki party so the barrels were not meant to be covered as they were part of the decor. But the tops were not all the same and it looked a bit odd but not bad. My biggest nit was the timing of the delivery and pickup. With no warning, they had their box truck in my driveway. I DIDN'T HAVE TO LIFT A FINGER -- but it was disruptive not knowing when I was going to have to let them on to my property. I would absolutely use them again. read more

Had a lovely experience with Bill from A Party Place. Rented a large amount of tables and linens for an event, he was lovely to work with and very responsive. Even better? For an extra $1 per table you rent, the delivery staff will even set up the tables if you provide a map/layout. Totally worth the cost! Prices were quite reasonable. Having worked in event planning for several years now, you'd be surprised how much it costs to rent things as simple as tables, linens, chairs, glassware, etc. Yes, it really does cost $10-15 for a 6' table. Linens cost just about the same... That's just industry standard, folks. Bill was extremely personable, easy to work with and obviously knows his stuff. He'll respond to your email within the hour and is very open to picking up the phone and making a quick call to get the job done. Planned a friend's wedding of 150 people. Met the owner, Steve at a bridal expo in South San Jose while looking for item's for my own wedding. He was nice and very informative. Wasn't surprised when my friend's who went to the same expo chose him. Went to the warehouse with the couple to pick out plates, napkins, flutes, pillars, coffee urns, chairs, tablecloths, tables, chafing dishes, utensils, and an arch. Steve was super nice and accommodating with what we already had at the establishment so that we wouldn't have duplicates. The couple changed their mind several times before the wedding and their changes were well received. The ladies there even showed them how to fold napkins so they could display them in their champagne flutes on the table. The day of the wedding, the delivery boys arrived promptly delivering the goods exactly where I wanted them, and were very friendly. Confirmed the time they would be back later that night (after hours pick up of 9:30p). The boys arrived promptly, stacked the chairs quickly, picked up their inventory promptly, were very courteous to the newly wedded couple, and were out of there in 20 mins. This place is an absolute joke. I called on a Monday to make a reservation for a Saturday event. Nothing big, just a small intimate event. Called Monday no answer, called again later to leave a voicemail and never heard back. I then follow up with a call on a Thursday in the morning for them to say "we've been busy" and that my order isn't guaranteed and they would need to check stock because orders needed to be placed 3 days in advance at least. Which would have worked if they called me back on Monday. THEN they say they're going to check their inventory and give me call before lunch, AND NOTHING. So I call AGAIN to follow up in the afternoon and they casually are like "yeah we have what you need" and then they give me this ridiculous total that doesn't even align with their online prices. The only reason they are not getting 5 stars is the horrible woman who you have to deal with on the phone. I have been dealing with "A Party Place" for the last 20 years since I have currently own my Los Gatos Business. I have rented many items, like chairs, tables, tents, linen, etc, and have spent a LOT of $ with them. I also have sent over a LOT of new clients and referred a LOT of new people to them. I have received not even a Thank You for ALL the business I sent to them. The owner "Steve Zanardi" is very hands on. I would be giving them a 5 star, but "decided" as of today to give them a 1 star with the BAD service I received today which was 150% unprofessional. I call today (11:00am) to get some pricing, I'm having a event in October of this year. I spoke to a new female employee (I don't remember her name) who is not even trained and had no idea what to do or say. It was very frustrating. The things I didn't like: 1. Waiting on hold for 8 minutes. 2. The female employee giving me two different prices, one wrong price at ($360), one correct at ($475). 3. Wrong info/specs on items. 4. Steve raising his voice, being rude & disrespectful. 5. Hanging up on me. NOTE: When Bill messed up my April 2012 event order and job, I didn't once complain! I didn't even get credit or comped! Is this how a person like me should be treated after being 20 years loyal, and all the business I referred, and all the $ I spent with his company. NO! 'Alerted the company by email of a dangerous truck driver and no response! The driver of their business truck pushed it's way into my lane and I had to hit the brakes with kids in the car. We used A Party Place for our wedding. Bill was fantastic. He was extremely responsive and delivered everything I asked for. He'll typically answer your emails or call you within an hour. It's pretty impressive for a party rental company. They don't have the most amazing selection of party rentals, but their prices are extremely fair for the bay area, and we were able to get what we needed from them. Ordering was simple and you receive your invoice right away. They also don't require a deposit and will charge your card the day of the delivery. They don't mentioned this anywhere on their website or brochure, but they do lights. They did indoor lights for our wedding, and I received so many complements on them. They also charge a reasonable price for set up and rental of the lights. However I have two gripes with them. 1. was this one woman who always answered the phone. I called around 3-4 times and every time she was rude - basically she sounded angry every time, like I was being scolded. 2. they are in need of a better website. She is patient and extremely knowledgeable. She had a few key tips that helped make my event elegant and fluid. Not to mention, they have competitive pricing. Pros: Called on Tuesday for a Saturday event and had no problem getting 5 tables and tablecloths lined up. They were also really accommodating with pick-up times, telling me I could pick up the tables the day before my event for no extra charge if it made things easier. I realized on the Saturday that I needed the tables picked up from the party location, since I didn't have a way to return them, and it was no problem to add a "Monday" pick-up. Cons: I said "Monday" because despite paying $50 - clearly this is where they make their money! - and being told they would swing by to get things on Monday, they didn't. I called that afternoon, and the woman said "oh right, you're probably on the list for tomorrow." Which is fine, but when I'm paying you $50 to drive 10 minutes, you need to be clear on the day. Being in the catering business, our best friend in this industry has to be a great rental company. We have been working with APP since 2000. We had been using another company for many years prior to that. But during the boom, they got to big for their britches. So that's when I was driving by APP, and decided to stop in. I hit it off right away with Steve Z., the owner. Since then, they have been adding more and more products to their vast rental list. The equipment is ALWAYS in good, newer condition, if not brand new. I don't understand why other Yelpers are dissing the service. Steve, Yvonne, Bill, and Jo Ann are always friendly and helpful. I'll often send my catering customers to APP's showroom to get ideas for their party. My clients always comment how helpful and professional the staff is. The delivery staff is always prompt, careful, courteous and makes sure the order is all there. A Party Place has a loyal customer for life. read more

I rented 6 cocktail table and 65 chairs from them. All the cocktail tables were very wobbly. I called them several times before the party. No response from them. Calls to complain about it went unanswered. Needless to say that those tables could not be used in our party. At the last minute we had to scramble to get tables from somewhere else. When their delivery person came to pick them up the day after party, I asked him to please have someone call me from the office first. Finally a lady called back and told me that the owner will get in touch with me. Few hours later a lady called Jessica called back. She notified me that they checked all the tables. As all of them have extenders to make regular tables taller, they are not very sturdy but rentable. Therefore it is not their problem. . Just RUDE! I don't like taking time out of my day to complain about bad Customer Service but I thought this was necessary after my experience with A Party Place. I recently had a home party and use this company for rentals of chairs, plates, glasses, and outdoor heater, etc. I felt my initial contact was a bit unfriendly but I excused it since it was the end of the day... Everything was delivered as promised the day of the party. In the evening we tried to turn on the outdoor heater and it did not work. Luckily, we have one outdoor heater of our own. I didn't think twice about this. When they came to pick up their equipment and supplies I notified them that the outdoor heater was not working. I didn't ask for a discount I didn't ask for my money back I just wanted them to know so somebody else would not get a broken heater. A couple days ago I received a call that we were missing a few forks and a whole tray of glasses which was left by their company. I said I would gladly return them and I notified her that the heater was not working the night of the party. Again, I did not ask for my money back. She replied that the heater is working properly. I said no the heater was not working and we had three different people try to turn it on. She said we turned it on and it is working. I notified her it was not working the night of our event. She said it works! I used a party place because it's a local business and I like supporting local businesses. But I would expect at the very least...Oh sorry! Also, during the time of Covid, they were quite cognizant that plans change very fast. They created the estimate and order, but didn't charge us anything at all until a week before the event in case something changed. They were also flexible with the delivery time. Probably wouldn't use them again. They kept referencing the wrong delivery date on my invoice but were quick to correct their mistake. My rentals were supposed to be delivered on a Friday, but I never heard from them, so I called for a drop off time and they told me I never paid my invoice and they'd been calling me all week. I paid my invoice earlier in the week and had no missed calls or voicemails from them so that was weird. After seeing I actually had paid the invoice they said my drop off window was 1-4. My rentals weren't dropped off until after 6p and I had to call to check in several time bc there was zero communication about a delay from their end. They also dropped off 3 of the wrong tables so that was unfortunate. Tables and chairs were fine, but a little banged up. If I hadn't called them, I would've never received the rentals I paid for; they definitely need to have their staff be more thorough and work on communication with customers. read more

The linens and things they provide are what we ordered. The reason for for the 3 stars is strictly the customer service. All 3 ladies are rude and I felt rushed the entire time I was trying to figure out what I needed. I decided to go in to their showroom so I could see how the colors look and get their advice. Also, had to make special arrangements to do so as their hours are tough (9am-4pm) for anyone who works normal business hours. We ordered 3 outdoor heaters for a party. A driver and helper arrived and drop the un-assembled heaters on our backyard and 'disappeared' , I run after the truck and asked them to try them, they assembled them, but then manged to put only ONE on and then 'run' away again. I tried to make them work and managed to make another one work. (but heard some gas leaking???). I called the office of A Party Place, and they apologized and send the "A Team" back to pick up the third one and refund the price for one unit, still I missed the number of unites that I wanted, and still paid the full shipment. Later I used only one, as I was worried about the leak. All the heaters looked OLD, really not something you want to have in your party, and probably dangerous to use. read more

If I could give negative stars I would for this "business". I just read some of the other reviews and I must say I agree with everyone that said the customer service is AWFUL! Honestly I do not know how they are still in business being so unprofessional and rude to customers. Long story short I have rented for my father in laws 70th, for my brothers engagement for which we had 150 guests, Then for my own wedding and bridal shower and this very last time for my baby shower which just was this past weekend. So needless to say I have spent some bucks at this place. Why you may ask? I like the fact that they are close to where I live and I can just walk in and pick things in person instead of ordering online. That is the only reason. In all my encounters there in the past I have received fair treatment (though never friendly) and received the rentals on time and had prompt pick up. This time however it was an ABSOLUTE nightmare and I will never ever go back here again. I picked up all the rentals myself They charged my card and I told them and paid for them to pick up on Monday which was today. I told the lady Michelle who helped with the order that the rentals would be left at the VENUE. This morning when the venue called and asked when they would pick up I called a party place and asked when and they said after 1 pm.... I called the venue back and the lady said they close at 1, so either they would leave the stuff outside or they could come pick up before they close. When I call back to tell them that the venue closes at 1 and they need to pick up before or have the rentals outside the lady "MICHELLE" rudely stated that that is not her problem and that she should've known there was a time frame. Mind you I have had every single party I mentioned above (except my wedding) at this same place and they have delivered and picked up from this same location at least 4 times before. She went on to blame me for not telling her and yelling at me and my husband and telling us that we are liable for any lost, stolen or damaged equipment if left outside. Ok? I am at fault when you who are doing this for a living don't even ask me if there is a time frame to pick things up by. She lied and stated she didnt know it was a venue and thought it was a house. They were the negligent one and they flip it back on me. I thought that since they have delivered 4 times to the same place They would either remember to ask me or know their hours. So how is this my fault and why are we being treated so poorly when I spent so much money there? My husband calls back and talks to Bill or Bob who yells at my husband and goes off and says "I have been in this business for 34 years and you are wrong cause all we have is an address!" Well my question to you sir is that if you have done this for 34 years shouldn't you know to ask the customer if there is a time frame since the customer probably doesn't think of this? Well no talking logic to these people and he hung up on my husband too. I called back and lucky me got Michelle on the line again. I calmly told her I wanted a solution and she progressed once again to talk over me and not help at all. So I got my pregnant butt in the car and drove there with my husband so I can deal with these people face to face since everyone there had been so rude and not helpful at all over the phone. When I got there a nice lady named Joann helped me and cause she saw how upset i was at the treatment I was receiving and she remembered me from previous orders. Meanwhile Michelle was sitting at her desk giving me Dirty looks. So PROFESSIONAL. Thank god for Joann. She made it happen.,Michelle on the other hand was rude and stated as I was walking out that it is not her business and got into a screaming match with us. I would be mortified if one of my staff at my office or my husbands' employees ever treated any customer in the manner that she did. I even spoke to the owner to let him know of his employee's behavior and rudeness and even he was unapologetic? Am I crazy or is customer service completely out the window??? He kept saying well your rentals are being picked up now so its over and taken care of??? A week later I noticed another charge on my account of an additional $100. So my sister got married a few weeks ago and we used a party place for their linen rental. you rent by the day so we picked them up the day before and thus they needed to be what was ordered ( you just have to trust I guess) so we measured out the chair and table dimensions and ordered accordingly. Unfortunately out of the 300 chair covers there were about 20 that were very I'll fitting ( seams were sown strange..poor quality) and one came so dirty we questioned if they were washed from the precious event. We made b it happen for the event but some ( see the pictures) were still pretty poor looking. We were glad we had ordered a few extra but it sucks that we had to do that and use them with how expensive a wedding is already. Some of the table cloths weren't what we ordered either so that was hard. Again, we ordered extra and made it happen but it was stressful with such a time sensitive thing.
