She just knows what a dog treat store smells like from down the block even if the door is closed. For such a small place, I was surprised by the wide selection! The shop owner was very friendly and helpful, pointing me in the right direction to find everything I needed. I bought some doggie aspirin and the owner recommended a medicinal mushroom chew with ingredients like turkey tail, reishi, and lion's mane. Maybe it was a play on the spot, but in actuality one paw 'below' is more accurate, located on the lower level of the cluster of shops sharing the building. Open baskets of treats, treats, treats! The pup's olfactory system was in overload with his nostrils quivering in a joyful rage. Despite its name, A Paw Above is found below, in the "basement" floor of the 9th & Front Shopping Platz building. It's a claustrophobic experience, especially when there are more than a half dozen customers, due to how much stuff is crammed in here! Toys, leashes, jackets, backpacks, kibble, wet food, treats, home goods, and so much more, it's honestly a bit overwhelming! 99% of the inventory seems to be geared towards dogs and cats; if there are exceptions to this rule, I wasn't looking hard enough to spot them. A must stop for us upon every visit to Leavenworth, especially because we usually have one or two dogs, and occasionally a dog, in tow on a leash, or worn in a backpack! read more

We stopped by right before closing, the "Employee of the Month" (Natalie) cheerfully came around the cash register, that she could barely see over, and happily showed us various products. Don't let her blond hair and bright eyes fool you! This pint sized purveyor of pet products really knows her stuff! From aggressive chewer kong products, boss dog harnesses and leashes, (with a lifetime warrenty) to chicken and carrot flavored cow cheeks and game day pet jerseys she confidently relayed information and answered any silly questions I could come up with! Her knowledgeable and friendly demeanor will definitely bring us back when we are in the area. read more

Quality treats and unique items. I saw bandanas, neck garters, and sweaters for bug and pest repellant. We have tick medicine and we've tried other pest repellant but this is a fashionable option and they felt very soft. In the back fridge they have a nice selection of toppers and mixers. I've tried the elixirs before to top my dogs kibble and they gobbled it up. They had Primal brand Goat milk as well and this is another addition dogs really like. One of my dogs has a rain coat that was handed down to her after two other pups and it has lasted a very long time and withstood so many adventures. I noticed this was the main jacket peeking out and they had a big selection of sizes. I highly recommend picking one up for your dog for the rain or snow! It's reflective too. If you're visiting with your dog just make sure they can handle small spaces with dogs and people and if they're prone to grab treats on their own be ready to spend a pretty penny because they will love everything and want it all! Bella our mini poodle was lunging at everything, she loved the treat selection and I ended up buying a few because she really started eating it quickly. read more

Rude very very rude. We walked in on a busy Saturday- as soon as we get in the blonde behind the counter snaps at us to close the door- which was open when we walked in. She's standing at the counter talking to another woman. She tells us she can't take cash and that's is fine we say. Then she proceeds to complain to the other woman " this is why I wanted the door closed now I have to deal with them," and on and on about basically not wanting us in the store or wanting us to buy anything. At this point I call out to my partner and let him know we are leaving because clearly she does not want us there- to which she replies good. And we leave. I suggest you find another place with better prices, better customer service and less b*tchy employees. Who don't need to "shut down" over such a mini technicality such as not being able to take cash transactions- if she had just kindly asked us to leave and let us know she needed to close we would have been fine but to complain and make rude snarky comments about us to what I can only assume was another customer, who she was apparently ringing up- all around bad form! Don't give your money to one so rude! So many other small businesses would love to sell you their products and there is nothing here you can't find elsewhere. read more

I've been to this store twice and have always enjoyed perusing through their selections of dog toys. They even carry the full line of West Paw toys which is a little tough to find in my area. We ended up purchasing a birthday cake mix and a West Paw Tux Treat Toy. The prices were very reasonable and service was top notch. I recommend checking out their pet gear section. They have an extensive collection of harnesses, leashes, collars, and sports team jerseys. They also carry an array of dog cookies, dental bones, and other variety of treats. Other items such as dog tags, magnets, pet beds and bully sticks are also available. There's a feline section by the dry food area. The store is really really crowded and would be difficult for anyone with mobility concerns to navigate but I'm sure the staff would assist as able. Prices felt high but the whole town is. What an awesome store! Sure, they have everything you might have seen for your pet elsewhere, but I found more, unique items: Bavarian pet clothing (who'd have thunk it?), smaller scale "Lampchop" toys for my Westie, Westie car magnets and signs that I'd never seen before, and more. The owner is so friendly, once she heard I had a Westie, she took out all her Westie items for me to ooh and aah over. She also asked for a photo of my pooch, to put on her wall (look up. There are hundreds of photos of the dogs of her customers. I love that!). When my kids and I stumbled in this store, it was closing time, but the owner lady totally didn't mind and seemed happy we came and was pleased to show us around. She also showed me pics of her two dogs, and said her mother owns cabins that accept dogs, so next time we visit Leavenworth, we might consider bringing my dog. I'm so happy, as I missed our pooch terribly. read more

I didn't buy anything from this store but I took my time looking at their selection of goods. They have EVERYTHING! At the time they had a great amount of Seahawks gear for dogs! They also had a wide range of treats and other accessories for your best four-legged friend :) The man working there at the time was really nice and knew where everything in the store was, although the one thing we were looking for (doggie hiking boots) wasn't there. The prices were competitive with other boutiques I've been to. The only down-side I saw with this place was that it was small and crowded so if there were too many people in the store, you had to awkwardly squeeze pass others. read more

This place is a hidden gem, right in next to Uncle Uli's! Very friendly and knowledgeable staff, lots of good quality products, and fair prices. I go at least once each time I'm in town, and love it! They've got an assortment of toys, treats, clothes (football jerseys are awesome! They get custom-made german-style dog clothes as well!), and really high quality food. They have a wall of photos of visiting dog families, which is always nice to see! If you have a pet (they have cat stuff too!), definitely check this place out - you'll be pleasantly surprised! read more

Who knew there was a pet store in Leavenworth?? I didn't!! Till yesterday... They have a nice selection of Ruffwear for dogs that you can't find anywhere else in a 30 mile radius, not even at Petco! They sell dog treats, toys, dog food, collars, etc.., oh and Cat stuff too! I ended up purchasing a Knot a Coupler for my girls... I was quite ecstatic about my find! A little on the pricier side, but I wouldn't have expected any less from a tourist town shop! read more

Stopped by here on our trip to Leavenworth. We took our little dogs with us so they were happy to able to go inside a store for once. We got them some treats and couple of novelty dog stickers.
