I had my first born drive with A-Plaza more than 10 years ago. My son and I felt they prepared him. Here we are today and since we had a great experience with them before we thought we'd schedule APlaza for my other child. Something has definitely changed over the past 10 years. My child was not as prepared. My husband and I had to do most of the training. We were expecting A-Plaza to teach/guide my child in the following skills: parallel parking, reversing, etc. Basics- we were hoping they would reinforce what we were also teaching. My child stated they did not help with those skills. My child was to drive wherever the instructor suggested- straight driving. Another note- instructors would be late as well. You get what you pay for. While the driving lessons are the lowest in the area price wise, after paying for 6 hr of behind the wheel training for my daughter, she was never taken on the freeway nor was she taught basics about how a vehicle works: turning lights, high beams, hazards, etc. read more

After trying to avoid getting my license for 15 years, I've decided enough is enough! I decided to use this driving service after running my friend's car up the curb and into some plants. He yelled, cursed, and screamed. I'm glad no one was around because they would have called the cops on him. I have never seen my friend lose it until I nearly destroyed his car. Marco picked me up at my house and we drove around San Leandro from 4pm to 6 pm. It costs $95 for two hours. He would rather you pay in cash than check or credit card. Anyway, Marco is pretty patient and gave me some good tips. There were times we could have died, but he took control of my steering wheel and used the emergency brake many times. The only thing I didn't like is using the hand-over-hand technique. It got way too technical for me. I also wished he had a sign on the side and the back of his car that says "Student Driver." Many people honked at me and cut me off. It made me incredibly nervous how I was ticking off the entire city of San Leandro. This is one of the cheapest places I've found on Yelp. Most places go for $150 for two hours. read more

The most unreliable business, Be aware! This is not a review of the quality of their driving lessons because we did not get to that point. I made 2 appointments with Glen on Friday, for the upcoming Monday and Wednesday. On Sunday evening, he called me & let us know thatthe instructor would not be available on Monday, and offered a new slot with another instructor at 10am on Tuesday. We were understanding and told him that emergency happens. And then, at 9:39am on Tuesday (our appointment was at 10am), he called again and told us the "new" instructor cannot make it, and offered no other alternatives. I went to this driving school when I was 17. I forget the name of my instructor, but he he was from the Czech Republic, and he said he taught Spanish and Gym at a local high school. What a full life he must lead. He picked me up in this Geo, and we started driving around. He kept calling me his baby. "Turn left my little baby. Make a U-turn now baby." First we drove through Hayward, and I was turning left and right and being his little baby. Then he had me pull into a Jack in the Box and turn off the engine. He went inside and got some food and started eating it in the car, he didn't offer me food! Maybe he thought I should lose some weight. Haha I SHOULD. Then he had me drive some more left and right and straight ahead, little baby, and then we pulled into the Hayward Post Office. He grabbed some mail from the glove box and walked it inside! Dude. I was running his fucking errands. But that's actually genius! I want to work at a driving school! Then later he pointed for me to turn, and the band aid on his index finger flew off into my lap, then he grabbed it off my lap, which basically meant he half way grabbed my crotch to get it, and was all aplogetic. Gross dude. As I recall a couple weekends at this school didn't cost me much more than $50, although this was years ago. It's probably still hella cheap. Without my Czech man, I probably wouldn't be driving today. At least not quite in the manner that I do. Consider this place recommended. read more

I drove along in the backseat and I was impressed.....her previous teacher let her drive while talking on the cell phone the entire time....not A-1, they actually taught!!!! Both of my children received lessons from A Plaza driving school. The instructors were very nice and showed up on time to pick my kids up. The pricing is extremely fair and they do not try to milk you for extra lessons. They will tell you how many lessons they feel your child needs after the initial lesson and evaluation. They treat everyone on an individual basis so there's no quota that they are trying to make. They are very honest which I really appreciate. My kids said that the instructors were helpful and very calm and nice. My daughter took her lesson during the pandemic and said they took a lot of precautions to ensure the car was clean and sanitized. Both of my kids felt more confident in their driving and felt the instructors were very fair in the grading and made good recommendations. My son passed his driving test on the very first time And said he felt that his instructor properly prepared him. Due to the pandemic my daughter has yet to take her driving test but feels very confident from the instruction she received. I would absolutely recommend this driving school. read more

Stay away from this place horrible service I literally got stopped by the police while learning because the car was not up to date and the car is in really bad condition there's not even a handle on the inside of the driver's door so you have to open it from the outside additionally the instructor got there an hour late almost every time read more

Course times are conveniently scheduled so that you can do the six hours all on one day (several different days are offered through the month) or three hours on two different days. Glen Babel, who runs the school, is the epitome of efficiency and courtesy. He is very flexible in making arrangements that will fit the student's schedule. All paper work is promptly filled out and is now submitted electronically to the respective courts. The Traffic School course is down-to-earth and practical. There is ample class participation. I was never bored, but got a thorough review of traffic laws, particularly new laws pertaining to child seats, bicycle lanes, and violations that can cost up to $1,000. The course would be quite useful as well to anyone preparing to take the written license examination. One pleasant characteristic of Glen Babel's presentations is that he views himself as a driver just like the students in the class rather than as an agent of the police. He points out the pitfalls that can catch up even well-motivated drivers in an increasingly-complex and overwhelming code of vehicle laws. Some people prefer online courses now, but I find this in-person Traffic School superior and more informative. In addition, you get the course completed in a day instead of having to come back over and over again over many days to complete a computer course. read more
