What a true blessing Bay Hill Driving School was for me. I had a small window to work with to take…read moremy test before I moved. My main instructor was booked out and also went on vacation, so I thought I would miss the chance to take my test. I found Bay Hill on Yelp and decided to book them for two things: 1. A two hour crash course in preparation of my test. 2. Vehicle rental for the test + 30 minute prep before. The two hour crash course was perfect. My instructor was calm, gave great instructions and made it so easy to feel comfortable behind the wheel. He was able to frame things that I needed work on in a way that I was able to process and internalize. By the end, he had me Feeling confident going into my big day. The day of my test, I met with JP at the DMV 45 minutes before my appointment. He walked me through the car I rented and what to expect for pre-test check (which was exactly how it went down, so I was well prepared for it.). Then we did some practice runs of the test route while JP very detailedly pointed out things I need to do and what examiners will look for during the test. Then he lined up with me until it was my turn. The entire time, he patiently answered any questions I had and it's clear from my time with him that he loves what he does and genuinely does his best to make you feel as confident and prepared as you can be for your test. Long story long, I passed my test and JP and the Bay Hill Driving School team deserve credit even though I only took two lessons with them. As an adult going for their license, you deal with way more self-doubt and anxiety than your younger counterparts, but these guys were able to quell a lot of that in the brief time I worked with them. She would smack gum, eat food, and generally had an attitude of not caring. Only until my last class did she run me through a couple of rules but I never really learnt anything under her teaching. It was high pressure and everything I learned was like being tested without knowing there was a test or what the material was on. The only saving grace here is that the people at the office are great, they kindly signed my second permit and gave me another learning certificate for $25 when I lost my first one. I would shop around for a better driving school before settling on this one.

I'm a driver from the UK but haven't driven in over 3 years since coming to CA. I passed first time…read moreafter four or five refresher lessons with Alex to get used to driving on the other side of the road, and practice the rules of the road that are different in CA (e.g. turning right on a red light). He was always punctual for my lessons, with good availability and flexibility around my schedule. He knows the local DMV routes well, and prepared me well for exactly the things that came up in the test. I used two cars in the lessons: a Prius which was really great to drive (which I used for the test), and an older white car which wasn't in as good condition. Still, I guess it's good to get experience in different cars. Only downsides were poor transparency around pricing (cash prices he quoted were different to what was quoted on the website), and he asked "if you pass will I get a tip?" 10 mins before I took my test (after I had just paid him $245 for the lesson and test). Then he said "only this?" when I gave him a $20 tip, which is all I had. It was awkward. The lessons are already expensive and I am a stay at home mom with two young kids to feed. I feel to pressurize people for more money (rather than let them offer it as a genuine tip for good service) is in poor taste. Covid: Alex did require masks to be worn which was good, but I never once saw him wipe down the steering wheel and other high- touch areas in between students. As soon as one student finished, the next one jumps straight in. Overall still a good service, but a few improvements could be made to make it a 5 star experience.

I wish I got my instructors name but he visibly made me…read morenervous, i was afraid of making any mistake which led me to make more mistakes because if I made a mistake, he would get very passive aggressive talk to me like I was a child. I'm not a fast learner but I was constantly shaky and nervous, but I didn't feel that way when doing lessons with my parents and that says a lot. He would also try to insist me to do more lessons with him and I just wasn't comfortable Any mistake I made, he'd tell me aggressively "why did u do it wrong" or "did you not see that?" Instead, he could've talked it out with me calmly and not tell me things that would make me feel so dumb, so I wouldn't have to feel afraid, maybe I would've done it better the next time. But no I just felt more and more afraid of not being perfect which only set me to do it wrong all over again because being too nervous/anxious can mess you up and having an instructor that isn't so nice doesn't help. I would come home crying and mentally beating myself up for not being perfect. It was the tone and the body language as well, as an instructor, it's one thing to teach someone and explain, but it's the way you deliver it that matters. I shouldn't have to feel dumb, nor on the verge of crying. I'm sharing this review for my HONEST experience, thank you.

They set up the days and times which worked perfect for his winter break which was that week. I called on a Friday after Christmas then got a lesson for the following Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. It was at 3pm which was good for my son to deal with afternoon traffic driving. Instructor: very communicative via text and phone call. Sometimes he was early, which worked great for us. First lesson: went over rules of road and allowed son to drive with much guidance. Second lesson: more driving for my son and learning to merge or lane change. Third lesson: went to dmv to practice route and what will be tested. Hand on papers were provided to the parent on what to practice.
