Ever since we bought our house we hated the old garage door, it was old and heavy and the door shot out when it closed/opened so we could never park our car right up to it BUT we thought replacing a garage door would be expensive so we never looked into it plus it was still working okay. 6 years later it finally happened! something went wrong and we could no longer open or close! Manny saved my butt big time. I pressed one wrong button on my Chamberlain garage keypad and the whole system went kaput. Called Chamberlain and they said I was out of luck. Friday afternoon and after 14 (or more) years, the torsion spring on my garage door finally decided it was fed up, had enough, didn't want to work any longer and forfeited its life (broke). How rude! You would think "Eh, no problem" right? Wrong! There is NO way the opener could manage the heavy wooden door now and I can't open or close the door without breaking my back or the door.... so it MUST be fixed! Like a good Yelper I search here for local garage door repair companies. Honestly I was surprised how many showed "Serving your local area" instead of listing a specific city. "I'm definitely going to avoid those!" I see one in Huntington Beach, call and set up an appointment for Saturday morning. I continue searching and calling, then call A Plus Garage Doors and speak to Jesse. He is very personable and asks a lot of "the right questions" as opposed to just scheduling an appointment. He also came by just over an hour later (at no charge) to confirm which exact spring is needed for the repair. He then tells me "My brother Manny will be here between 8 & 9 am tomorrow". What is this?? Only a ONE hour window?? Wow! It turns out A Plus is a two man operation most of the time, only brothers Jesse & Manny. I called the Huntington Beach place and cancelled. Even though their quote was $50 less, I just didn't have a good vibe about them and had a feeling they would've tried to "nickel & dime me" for the repair. Now Saturday morning and Manny arrives at 9:05 am. OMG he's 5 minutes late!! Don't they know I have a LIFE and don't have TIME to wait around ALL day for................ Oh.... wait.... (it was ONLY a 1 hour window and he was ONLY 5 minutes late....) Well.... (clears throat)... in the voice of Gilda Radners character, Emily Litella........ "Never mind." Manny comes in and gets to work. Less than 2 hours later he's packing up his tools and my garage door is operational again. Apparently the door and tracks have been slightly misaligned for a very long time and he adjusted them too! All for the same price as first quoted, $195! SCHWEET! Manny stopped by a day later at a time that was convenient for me. He was at my house for about 15-20 minutes. He looked at my old garage door and did a quick assessment, brought out some samples and a brochure, and answered all of my questions. The price of everything installed and my old one hauled away was very reasonable and comparable to what I found online and over the phone at other places.
