It took a while for her to adjust to moving from her home to an apartment and I'm happy to say that she's really enjoying the amenities, activities and all the friends she's made there. The food selections are top quality and varied and delicious. The staff are very helpful, caring and kind; the majority of the staff are long timers and are very dedicated. Recently she invited us to their Primavera Dinner celebration. I'm sharing some pictures of the event. The food served at this event was excellent.

If you've ever looked in to retirement homes you know they're all pretty expensive, however, CV is very reasonable compared to other retirement homes we looked at especially for what's included. The ground here are well maintained and very modern and beautiful. My mom had a studio which was a nice size with two closets for ample storage. Enough space to maneuver her wheelchair around. The bathroom was a nice size as well. The door was wide enough to get a wheelchair through it and the shower was a walk in with now step so it was easy for her to access. I never ate here but my mom thought the food was really good. So did my dad. He would come visit my mom at dinner time aI can't say enough great things about the staff here! Aurora was so amazing. She went above and beyond to help us get into CV in a crunch for time. She was accommodating and she has a big heart for those in need. Illeen was the head nurse. She was so caring for every resident there. She knew everything about each residence needs and made sure they had it. She was so attentive and so was her staff. They were all on top of it all the time and showed each resident kindness, respect and compassion. Unfortunately, while my mom was a resident there, she had another stroke and went under hospice care. I didn't think CV would take her and I was going to have to put her in a skilled nursing facility. I was wrong. I messaged Illeen to give her a status on my mom and told her she needed hospice care and Eileen immediately responded that they would take her back and she could hospice at CV. They even arrange the hospice care for me. They in tandem with hospice, cared for my mom until her last breath and I couldn't be more grateful. If you or a loved one needs an excellent retirement home this is the place.

What a gorgeous place to retire in! My friend's apartment is really stunning - very modern, spacious, and with high ceilings and a patio. The landscaping is beautiful; people can easily walk to the dining room or to one of the many activities they have; and if you become less mobile, they have golf carts that will pick you up. The also send meals to people's apartments if they are unable to walk. The chaplain was super cool; they have lectures and film screenings; and the food was pretty decent! The patio was lovely, and inside lots of people were dining with friends. They have a daily special and then a regular menu. We got the soup of the day first (potato leek) which was yummy, and then I had a decent mushroom swiss omelette. They didn't have Dijon mustard, but servers were very nice, and they unfold your napkins like you're in fine dining. My friend also loves the dog park, and the beautiful old trees on the property, and the views of the ocean and PB are stunning. And we saw friends of his along the way too, and he told me about some of the other very accomplished and interesting residents. Looks like a great place to retire if you can afford it! (though it is way up on a hill, so if you're driving yourself, be prepared for the way up to be winding).

My mother was on a wait list for a place but she wasn't ready to go when an opening came up and unfortunately there was not an opening now that she was ready. I called Senior Care Authority and Harp answered my call. She was an angel. She quickly gathered a list of potential care-homes for me to look at in the price range I could afford and I was able to do some phone interviews and I toured three of the houses. Harp toured the house I was most interested in with me. It was a new care-home opening up. I was able to pick the room I wanted for my mother and she was able to get a private room. There are only 6 residents so I know my mother isn't lost in a large facility. The house is beautiful and they keep it spotless. Visiting hours are very reasonable. They keep a good schedule for the residents and they have hospice available. The food they serve is very good. Harp came to the post Acute Care facility my mother was in after the hospital released her from their care. She helped me with all of my paperwork and coordinating the release date from Post Acute Care. She came to the house and checked on us the day I moved my mother in which was really sweet. This was a situation I wouldn't wish on anyone. It's scary and emotional and so stressful. Once Medicare says "no more care" you have to take your family member out of the facility or pay out of pocket. You want to do the right thing. If you can't take care of your parents for whatever reason in your own home or their home, you want to find the right situation for them and be able to afford it. There's so many horror stories out there. I can't recommend Harp at Senior Care Authority highly enough for helping me make it through the whole event and getting me through to the other side. Getting help from someone that knows what she's doing was the best decision I made. Thank you Harp!!!!!

We were able to move mom's bedroom furniture into her private bedroom to give it a homey atmosphere as well as hang pictures and other family heirlooms on the walls. The entire staff is always attentive and respectful and the home is always clean and tidy. Sarah, Percy, Teru and Paul are the wonderful caregivers and Ester prepares all their meals, truly Angels on Earth. They were terrified to speak up while they were still a resident, so I am posting this now that they have finally been discharged. People need to be warned. Toxic Leadership & Chronic Understaffing The culture here starts at the top and it is completely broken. Throughout my friend's stay, the staff were constantly complaining about being dangerously understaffed. They explicitly blamed the Director, Megan, for the lack of help and the miserable working conditions. We noticed an alarmingly high turnover rate; it seems like all the "good" people--the ones who actually care--are fleeing this place as fast as they can. When the people responsible for care are this miserable and unsupported by management, the patients are the ones who suffer. Disgusting Conditions & Neglect The facility itself is a disaster: * Filthy Environment: The building is consistently filthy and feels like it's perpetually "under repair," yet nothing ever actually gets fixed. * Garbage Food: The food is absolutely inedible. Calling it "garbage" is an insult to garbage. * Safety Concerns: It appears the facility is being used to house a large population of homeless individuals and those with severe, unmanaged mental health issues. The staff is clearly not equipped or trained to handle this demographic safely alongside elderly patients. The Medical Staff: A Tale of Two Sides The nurses (RNs and LPNs) are a total nightmare. They are some of the most unprofessional people I have ever encountered. They are rude, condescending, and treat patients like an inconvenience. * Zero Communication: Ask a simple question about medication and you'll get a snarky comment or a heavy sigh. * Negligence: They spend the majority of their shifts gossiping at the nursing station while call lights go unanswered. Their lack of empathy is chilling. The only reason this place functions at all is because of the CNAs. They are hardworking and compassionate, but they are being run into the ground. They are doing all the heavy lifting with a smile while the nurses and management (Megan) fail them at every turn. Final Verdict Do not be fooled by any "care" they claim to provide. Between the toxic management, the revolving door of staff, the filth, and the dismissive nurses, Balboa is a dangerous place for anyone you care about. Go anywhere else.
