When my husband arrived at The Shores, he had been turned down by 3 skilled nursing facilities (SNF). Although they didn't say it out loud, we became aware that my husband was rejected because he required an extreme amount of time and resources to meet his needs.These SNFs were not willing to provide this level of care. Marionne, the head administrator at the Shores, gave us a chance. Even though we required more help than was available, Marionne made sure we had the resources we needed. I met Connie, the social worker, on the second day of my husband's stay. I had a very long list of things that my husband needed to survive his stay at any facility. As I expressed our needs, I expected Connie to lose interest and turn away. She did just the opposite. She took out a notebook and wrote down all that I needed. It was ALL accomplished the next day! Throughout our stay I would e-mail Connie concerns in the evening...things that my husband had confided to me. Almost always I would see the result the following day!!!!! Besides the administrative staff we encountered an OUTSTANDING nurse named Gigi. If we ever had a question or concern, we knew who to call!!! Last but not least, Elmer our CNA was a master at using the Hoyer lift!!! He would easily lift my husband and reposition him in half the time it took many others. Marionne once told me that they were not perfect . All I can say is if you have people like those mentioned who take pride in their work as these people do, you may not be perfect, but you are well on your way to getting there! read more

My mother has been here for over a year and I cannot tell you how happy I am that she is. The staff is so kind and treat her so well, that my mind is at ease knowing she is being taken care of. Her main nurse is amazing and always communicates with me. The food is not great, but most places do not have great food. Yes, the place is on the older side, but it is clean and they have been making improvements,. But honestly, I am more concerned about her care, which she is getting. She could be at a super fancy place and not have the loving care she is receiving. Having a parent with dementia is hard enough, but I have peace of mind knowing they are taking such good care of her. read more

The quality of care is terrible. You can ask for assistance and it's like never asking at all. I'm speaking on behalf of my sister who's been there for over a year. The service is very poor, I can call on the phone several times before the line is picked up once the line is picked up Then I can tell them what I want and they seem like they don't understand. They need to hire more people that are English speaking and understanding they say they offer physical therapy, but I don't understand why it is that my sister can never get to physical therapy let alone be taken out of her bed more than once a week. I will be calling other places to report the quality of care that is given to my sister. I cannot recommend this nursing home more. My grandmother was there for over 3 months and was able to come home thanks to the rehab group. They were attentive and supportive through all the difficulty. Grateful for them and all their hard work. read more

My 95yr old mom ended up here because the post acute facilities Kaiser usually uses were full. She was there for 5 days. They scheduled a FaceTime call for me and I was so horrified by my mom's appearance that I had my brother make arrangements to get her discharged ASAP. For the call, my mother was lying flat on her back so she couldn't see me. She did not have her dentures, yet they said she had just eaten breakfast. I insisted they sit her up a bit and get her dentures, which took several requests to accomplish. My mom's appearance was appalling, she could not speak to me even though we'd had phone conversations while she was hospitalized. Thankfully the case managers/doctors/staff worked quickly to get her discharged to an assisted living home with orders for home health visits. The Shores didn't send my mom's custom hearing aids with her, but found them and was told to pick them up from the reception desk. I arrived and the front door was open with lots of people entering and exiting, including staff and delivery people. I walked in wearing a face mask plus face shield. The unpleasant receptionist was sitting at the desk, no mask, eating a sandwich. I was shocked. No wonder they have a significant COVID-19 outbreak among patients and staff. So glad I got my mom out of there. Within a day she looked 100% better and is thriving with proper care. I realize times are tough and staff are overworked, but I truly believe my mom's life was in danger there. I am grateful to all who helped get her discharged so rapidly, the two stars are for you. read more

If I could give minus stars I would. This place is TERRIBLE. My husband was there over Thanksgiving 2022. He was dizzy and felt sick. I was on the phone hearing him as he called the nurses, then screamed for help. NOBODY came. I finally called 911 and had him taken to the hospital where he tested positive for influenza and had pneumonia. When I called to verify his room number for paramedics they refused to confirm his room number.He was put in diapers (which he never wore before) and neglected. Please do NOT allow your loved ones to go to this terrible facility. This is the kind of nightmare place you hear about in the news. read more

My grandpa seems to be happy so that is the important part. I have not been able to go inside due to covid. He came to the shores in the beginning of covid. However it is very alarming by how unprofessional the people are who answer the phone. They really need a lesson on customer service. They are constantly hanging up on you witch is the experience everyone in my family gets when calling. And are just plain out disrespectful. Never house your parents here. They simply do not care. Due to life's challenges my grandmother ended up here. She had shelter and meals but that is about it. Visitation was allowed only weekly due to Covid. The daytime receptionist was rude and well I had to bite my tongue and be civil many a day. There was a sprinkle of employees that were decent. Upon visiting my grandmother weekly I always found her with the same clothes from the week before. The clothes were filthy and she was filthy. Clearly she was not being bathed. She stunk and her head stunk. I started to bring a change of clothes week to week even though she had a full suitcase of clothes at the facility. She continued to have the same filthy clothes on. I communicated to the social worker and the nursing station but nothing changed. From the higher level to the lower level the facility is toxic. I took my grandmother out after 3 months due to the toxic environment because the nurses and aids degraded my grandmother in every way. They mimicked and bullied her. My grandmother is only about 115lbs and when I took her meals every week she was ravenous with hunger and she claimed she was not given meals. Once I brought her back home I shaved her head because her hair was like hard broom bristles and she had layers of hard scalp buildup on her scalp. It took about one month for that scalp buildup to go away. The Shores you should be ashamed of yourself. Director of Nursing you are a failure. Attorney General please investigate the conditions at this nursing home. They are failing our aging community. read more

Horrible place . The staff are a joke , very rude and condescending. Not all but most . The facility Prides themselves because it's the biggest in California but now that I've been to many other facilities this place doesn't do it's best when it comes to residents.the facility wasn't disgusting but not very clean either, saw a lot of mistreatment to residents just out of aggravation, stress, short staff, but overall I'm glad to say I'd never go back. There is one rule in life which is to follow "The Golden Rule" Treat others as you would have them do unto you! Following this principle I found the Lifehouse to be quite accomdating with the care of my husband. The administrative staff was extremely efficient in all aspects from beginning all the way up to my husbands release. Gigi is one of the best nurses I have ever met. Thoughtful, caring and a very hard worker. Came to this place to check on a person whom I was asked to see. I had no intention of getting involved to the extent that I did but due to this person visibly displaying the lack of will to thrive and seeing that it was in direct relation to the quality of care being received I had no other choice. The nursing staff that I dealt with were kind and professional. They are probably the main reason patients do survive there. The problem is the administrative staff particularly the case managers who were unprofessional and unaware of the needs of the patient. I had to repeatedly call them to follow-up on patient status and treatment. I also had to address remind them that they are required by law to provide a translator when English is not the 1st language of a patient when discussing treatment and care. The accommodations were disgusting in the way of upkeep and cleanliness. It comes to no surprise that after asking questions about this facility I learned that this place is a revolving door for quality employees and isn't viewed as one of the better facilities for hospice care. If you're ever in a position of needing to find a hospice care facility, PLEASE find somewhere else!!! You'll be glad that you did if not for yourself, for the one that needs this type of care. read more

honestly wish if could give zero stars. however, this morning my grandmother passed away here and the way they treated my mother during the whole ordeal is absolutely bullshit. some lady calls my mom telling her that my grandmother is "non-verbal and being give cpr by paramedics as we speak" no previous call informing her that paramedics were even called. after my mom asked her to clarify the lady said she had to hang up the phone to "attend to my grandmother" leaving my mom all alone in the dark about what is going on, my mom told her not to hang up & tell her what's going on & what what they mean by "non-verbal" the nurse just repeats what she previously said & decided to put my mom on hold. about 5 mins later she comes back to my mother and tells her she died. we then both decided to go down there to see her, i couldn't go in because i forgot my mask at home after being distraught to hear the news so abruptly so i waited in the car. a couple hours later my moms dealing with things to get her body taken from the building & the staff are calling and harassing her telling her she needs to move her mom out of the place when body removal was on the way & it'll take about two hours for them to get there. at 1:30 , around the time body removal was supposed to be arriving soon the called my mom & were demanding her to get someone to pick up the body after they told my mother they have a mortuary in the facility. absolutely fucking ridiculous for treating someone who just lost a family member. read more

1 RN for 30 patients. 1 CNA for 13 patients. RN Supervisor could not cognate symptoms of severe hydration, septic shock. Bed sores so catastrophic that Kaiser ER reported Life House to the authorities. Criminal investigation by Atty General for severe elder neglect/abuse. My brother was full of feces. Do not send your loved ones here. Call light string too short for him to reach. No one hand-fed him (paraplegic). They severely drugged him whereby he was talking incoherently + drowning in his secretions. Room never smelled clean. Poor ventilation. Cockroach in microwave room. Extremely dangerous staffing. Extremely unqualified dangerous staffing. Unconscionable. Call a Civil Atty to protect your loved one from ever going here. This place should absolutely be shut down until it's completely overhauled by people who have a conscience instead of this unconscionable ruthless, greedy corporation. read more

Way understaffed for the amount of patients they have. My father has had severe bouts of deliriosuness due to dehydration (the patients do not have access to any liquids except for meals), 80% of his clothing has gone missing in 6 months, I have found him and many other patients with feces or pee stained pants wandering around the facility. My family is very involved in his care and visits 5-6 times a week. I would not put you loved one in this facility if you are not constantly there checking up in them. read more

My husband had a severe stroke and Kaiser sent him to The Shores. I had not received any updates from a doctor for 8 days. I would call daily 3-5 times a day to try to get ahold of him, either the cordless phone was busy or they couldn't find it. I finally took a phone to my husband so he could contact me but he would never pick up the phone so I would call them to see if I could get ahold of them but they don't answer their phones. When I did get ahold of a charge nurse I was told that he was eating well and had a television in his room, but when I talked to my husband, he had told me that he was not eating and did not have a television in his room. With his short brief sentences I would get answers from him. I called the charge nurse again and she confessed that he did have a television but it wasn't working. My concern now is that he is not breathing well because when I talk to him on the phone, he sounds short of breath, but the charge nurse says otherwise. I do not trust a word these people say. It might sound unimportant that he doesn't have a television, but he has caught Covid-19 there, and now he's just going to stare at the wall for 14 days in isolation, and he already suffers from various mental health issues. Every time I talk to him, all he talks about is how miserable he is and how he feels neglected by the staff. Because of him suffering from a stroke, he doesn't talk in complete sentences and should be receiving speech therapy. They say he is getting speech therapy, my husband says he isn't. This treatment is entirely unacceptable. read more

At first it's a bit of a shock walking into a nursing home if you've never been to one, but once I saw how they care for the patients I was impressed with the ability and competency of the nurses to take care of my grandmother who has dementia so she is not the easiest patient to deal with. Medications are not administered in a timely manner as prescribed by Dr. More than once the patient was left sitting in a wheelchair well into the night. Questions arose regarding entries made in her medical record and it was discovered that the entries had been falseified. One more thing, Lifehouse seems to have a shortage of personnel but there's plenty of time for a group to stand around together and discuss the weekend. read more

I will begin with a portion of all that is wrong, broken beds, CNA's with bad backs... patients falling out of bed, went to visit my father, he waited 45 mins. after ringing his call bell. I was watching 5 CNA'S talking at the station while call lights were being ignored. medication not being given to him on time. Not bathing patients because they ran out of time. I cry myself to sleep nightly trying to find another place, hope it's soon. read more
