Have to say it was difficult. It was kind of sloppy and really didn't have like a starting point to work your way down the line. It was all over the place. Which isn't that much fun, might I add. It was very dark in there not much light. So many riddles to solve in such a small amount of time. It was a lot to take in at once. The host of our room might I add was very nice. We didn't ask for many clues, because we like to brainstorm and trying to figure it out without asking for too many clues. I would not likely return to do another room at this location. Pretty average escape room experience but located right in the middle of Deep Ellum. I don't see myself coming back here without another Groupon deal, but it certainly wasn't bad with the discount we had for a party of 8 on Groupon. The puzzles were quite creative and I really appreciated not having too many 'find the combo/key to this lock' puzzle, but some of the props/room seemed really worn and the workers at the escape room didn't seem all too stoked to help us out with clues or actively moderating the room. read more

I booked this for my daughters bday celebration with her friends. They loved it. The staff was attentive and patient with our group. It is in the middle of deep Ellum so parking can be tricky. My wife and I joined another couple to do the theatre escape room here. We did not know the other couple before but they were experienced at escape rooms (50+). We have done our share of rooms as well (probably 30+). While we usually escape rooms fairly easily we did not escape until about 45 seconds after time expired. Although that is always frustrating, my frustrations with some parts is not because of our lack of success. I'll try to give feedback without giving anything away. There were some really cool parts in the room and it was engaging and enjoyable. On the other hand there were a few parts that didn't seem very logical or to connect very well. Some of the parts are in need of replacement like a lock and some papers. Also there is a lock that is different from any of their sample locks... not necessarily bad if they want you to have the difficulty, but then why have sample locks outside the room? Also the game master has a walk-in talkie and sometimes at least isn't watching any video because they are operating the front. To ask what you are having difficulty with while checking someone out isn't a 5 star experience. All in all we have seen better and worse and will likely go to other rooms in Dallas that we feel have a better experience. read more

Caveat 1: I've done over 50 rooms across the country and more than 20 locally. Caveat 2: I'm not trying to be mean here, but rather be accurate. If you do a great room and it gets 5 stars, giving not-great rooms 5 stars is a broken system. Caveat 3: I did not succeed in getting out of the room we did. But I honestly didn't even care. I was bored out of my mind 15 minutes into the escape. After the 6th combination lock, I was done. If you're into combination locks and bottle-necking puzzles this place will be your jam. Otherwise, don't expect to work with your friends on this one. None of the puzzles require teamwork or really much communication. Just search for random locks and keys and eventually you may escape (there is slightly more to it than that, but not much). Production design is lazy and uninspired. It doesn't appear they've put any effort, modified, or updated their game "the ship" since they opened. Every prop was either nearly broken or broken. If you want a good room, the bar is set at Dallas Escape Games at Grapevine Mills and The Perfect Escape in Arlington. I do not work for these companies, I'm just an enthusiast who wants people to have a good time doing these games. If people don't have fun the industry will not thrive. I have been to a lot of Escape Rooms both in Texas and on other states. My husband and I participated in "The Ship." When we entered this place looked a little creepy. It was dark. A lot of the lobby furniture looked antique and old. The "desk" looks like something out of an "I Spy" book from the 90's. They have you sign a waiver and then head into the room. They give you a story briefing inside the room which was weird to me. He explained how the room worked, and that the storyline would be "revealed" to us. (I'm being vague because I do not want to spoil the room). He showed us that the final Clue would be unlocking a box to stop the timer. This was kind of a let down because there really wasn't a goal to accomplish. It was kind of "play the story and stop the timer" which was a bummer. There was no safety spiel or anything explaining the nature of the clues (linear or random, etc) he gave us a few extra hints at the beginning (clearly because other people in the past struggled with these items) then he was messing with a lock as we starting our game. It was weird starting our game with the door open and the game guide still in there but we didn't want to waste time. The clues were okay. Some were challenging. Some did not make sense and you almost had to use your guides help to get them. I prefer games where you can solve the whole thing without clues if you want to. In my opinion there were too many locks and puzzles but that could have been because there were only two of us and they said normally two people cannot do it by themselves so I recommend TWO PEOPLE SHOULD NOT DO THIS ROOM. It is rare that you book the room and get it yourself but I am not sure why they don't make the minimum booking 4 people. There was A LOT of tasks and clues that is difficult for 2 people to do alone. We were able to get through most of it (got to the last clue) because we are experienced but otherwise they said only one other group of two have successfully finished it. Other than that a lot of the clues relies on finding information in large books with little guidance. Which wasted time and was not entertaining from a customer standpoint. A lot of the decor felt dirty and having to handle it was a bit gross. Some of the locks you had to open brought you to stuff you did not use. One of the clues was not assembled correctly so we got a freebie on that one but it shows that there really is too much stuff even for the game guides to keep track of when resetting. Overall I did not feel I was in a ship. All the puzzles were lock based. I was not immersed in the story line. There were parts of the storyline that had a lot of potential but just fell flat on execution. I would not return here to do any of their other rooms. For the amount of money we paid I would rather do other Escape Rooms that have a goal to achieve at the end and are more immersive in their story line and puzzles. read more

The Treehouse: This is a fun location and there is a lot to do in the area - dinner before the room, music in the bars nearby. It also lead to a lot of walk-ins, which is a nice thing I hadn't seen at most escape rooms. The lobby is fun and the staff is friendly. And the room was a good time - even with the difficult puzzles we enjoyed the experience. Theme:This was so nicely done - you really feel like a kid would love this type of tree house. Even I would like to spend time in a room like this. Quality:Nicely done - everything worked and was well designed. Our difficulties (especially with on of the puzzles) were our own skill levels. Difficulty:A couple of the puzzles were quite challenging - nothing was easy in this room. But it was all doable and played to the skills of everyone in the room. Fun:This room is just fun - the theme sets that up from the start. We had a good time and enjoyed the theme, the puzzles, and the couple that joined us in the challenge. read more

We have a group of about 6 of us that LOVE to do escape rooms around DFW. We did the treehouse. We were so close to escaping, but failed. This escape room was very detailed, but lacked in flow of puzzles. We repeatedly had to ask for clues to help push us in the right direction. We do like to use our minds to escape, but its frustrating that some puzzles we didn't understand even after he gave us the answer. I just played their newest room, the Treehouse! This is a MUST play! I've done about 5 escape rooms now, both in Michigan and in Dallas and this was by far the most challenging room I've ever played. It was so much fun and so difficult. The theme of this room takes you back to your childhood. The puzzles were well thought out, constructed beautifully and A BLAST to play. If you only have time to play one of their rooms I would definitely recommend the Treehouse!! read more

Went here on 11/26 to celebrate my husband's birthday. I was looking for something fun and unique that would suit a small group. I was glad to find an escape room in the Dallas city limits, many are out of the city, so this location was convenient! We did the Theatre room and it was so much fun! The clues and puzzles were not too difficult for us and we had such a great time going from one clue to the next. We have already talked about going back and trying another room! There were no creepy zombies trying to attack or anything so there was no added distraction. The room was very well planned out and I would recommend this place highly! read more

I definitely recommend not drinking before so you'll be clear headed and also making sure that other people will join the group (look online at ticket sales) as you'll definitely need more than just 2 people to solve the room! Very friendly staff, Tyler was a great host. There were only my wife and I in the room, so we weren't able to finish in time. He said it was difficult for only 2 people to finish. It was a great change from our normal dates. This was our first experience at an "escape room" or mystery room. I think we would have finished if there were more people. We did the tree house room. I can't say enough how much fun this was! Olivia is amazing - super nice and very helpful. She explained how the rooms work, how there are clues but also red herrings. The sample boxes at the front help get your mind in the game. Our group started with the Doll House (which I felt was the hardest one), went to the Ship, then had so much fun we booked the Theater the next day. Prepare to have so much fun you want to book another one - seriously. What separates this escape company from others are the stories; you are immersed in a plot and you don't just 'escape the room' you are caught up in a different world. Personally my favorite was the Ship - it had so many different clues and such a range of things to do to complete the tasks it kept our team running around. read more

This was my very first escape room to ever do. It was for a company team building outing, otherwise I don't think I would have thought to participate in something like this. I have nothing else to compare this experience to. We were in the Ship Room. The staff was super friendly and entertaining. We definitely used up our allowed hints and at times they were generous enough to wrap up 2 hints in one. (Because we were THAT bad) I think we had maybe 2-3 clues left when our time had ran out. Even though we didn't escape, we had SO much fun and we worked well together. The puzzles are tricky to me but I feel like you need a certain sort of brain or way of thinking. Once the hints are given, then the clues make more sense obviously. I would definitely try another one. read more

I have done several escape rooms. And I would consider myself an above average room escapee. This one was by far my least favorite. The room didn't flow well. The people who worked there were excellent. Very friendly and helpful. But the room itself was blah. They made ridiculous length of combinations for locks. One lock was a 14 combination directional lock. A tad bit excessive. I will not be visiting this place again. Make the locks with simple combinations and a challenging puzzle to get it unlocked. Not the other way around. If they can fix that I would go back. But first time escape room people I do not recommend this place. There are many better escape rooms in Dallas. I suggest you visit one of those before this place. read more

With her suggestions taking into account what we liked we decided to do the treehouse room. I'm really sad to post this review bc we were so excited about this escape room... We decided to try a creepy vibe escape room for Friday the 13th - we chose A Room With a Clue for the Dollhouse Room. The employee working the front desk was pretty rude from the start when he didn't answer any questions about the merchandise for sale at the front of the location. We got into the room and honestly - we aren't escape room geniuses - but we aren't stupid either. The clues in this room didn't make sense. I don't want to give away answers for those that try and go but we needed more help than ever before. The locks used are worn out and not updated. There's a directional lock with shape stickers we were trying to use - and the stickers were half gone. When we radio'd about it we were told to use "common sense" and "obviously" the riddle means this... The final lock didn't work at all. Two employees had to come in and each tried multiple times (we verified the code was correct before they tried) and it took close to 4 minutes for them to get the lock open. The escape room price online is the same as other places until you pay all the fees - then it's almost $50/person. For $50/ person I don't think it's crazy to expect updated materials. Though we don't agree with how the clues were done, the lack of upkeep and attitude will keep us from returning. read more

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! We came to play on Friday May 18th and we chose The Dollhouse room. I had a group of 4 young teens and we were there as part of my daughter's birthday celebration. I reached out to the business early in the morning with a question and request. The owner Patrick tried to respond but something was wrong with my email and he personally called me back to ensure that we spoke in a timely manner before our booking time of 9pm. He was extremely professional, kind, thoughtful and considerate. As a mom chaperoning and as a mom of 4 who works 7 days a week I sure appreciated the prompt response and assistance as I had a lot to do already to ensure all arrangements and logistics for our evening went smoothly. When we got there and it was time for orientation he did a great job of communicating with the children and answering questions without giving away too much so as to keep the thrill of the unknown going and not take anything away from the experience. During the game he was available with prompt helpful guidance that helped us along and the children felt accomplished with each clue deciphered. A great time was had by all and they went on and on as we headed home about how much fun they had and what their favorite parts were. Thank you again Patrick! read more

I am giving this room a single star because the staff were beyond unprofessional not to mention rude. We reserved three of the four rooms for a corporate event. We were told we had to arrive at 1:45pm for orientation, so the games could begin at 2:00pm. We arrived a few minutes early, but no one was there to greet us, the staff arrived 2min before 2:00pm, not only did he not apologize for being so late he didn't even bother himself with saying hello to anyone (btw his name is Pat). He also refused to take the group through the orientation; rather, he said "everyone do the orientation it is written on the wall" and pointed in a vague direction. Did I tell you how rude Pat was?? He never spoke directly to anyone and made no eye contact with anyone in the group. He definitely made it VERY clear he could not have cared less that we were there and had paid for what we hoped would be a good experience. I have participated in several escape room events, and this was the first time have not enjoyed the experience. There is no real variety in the puzzles/challenges, just a bunch of combintation locks. I was quite unimpressed with the entire experience. If you want an enjoyable and properly challenging escape room this is NOT the place for you. If I could give only 1/2 a star I certainly would. read more

I was on vacation in Dallas with some time on my hands and decided to check out A Room With a Clue. I was teamed up with two adults and two young teenage boys. We were in The Dollhouse room which was a little creepy at first because it had a strange mystery tied to it...and it had lots of weird, old dolls. Some of the clues were hard, but once we got the hang of them, it got easier and even more fun. The young boys were able to help figure things out, too. There was also someone assisting us on the walkie talkie when we were stuck and needed extra help. It got very exciting as the clock counted down. I didn't want it to end! I had so much fun! My family and friends gathered for the holidays and decided to attempt an escape room. I was excited to find a place that is walking distance from rapid transit! We put together a group of nine and booked "The Ship". Most of us had experienced several different escape rooms, and I have to say this one was a disappointment. First off, this room was recommended for a group of up to ten people, but it was too small for our group of nine. The decor did not even resemble a ship. The clues were very serialized so most of us were standing around waiting for someone else to perform a task. At one point I noticed a friend sitting on the couch waiting for it to all be over. This challenge required a lot of reading and scanning through multiple books to extract the clues. To complicate matters the room was dimly lit, and some of the text was very hard to read. Personally, I prefer exploring and discovering physical clues, but these kind of clues were few and far between. When we got stuck and requested a clue, we found out the walkie talkie was dead. Once we wasted several minutes getting it to "work", we started hearing chatter between the staff and the other rooms, which caused additional confusion. Somewhere along the way we found a remnant from the previous group's experience that should have been removed before we started, which caused us to lose additional minutes and ultimately fail to escape. Don't get me wrong, I'm not bitter that we didn't escape. We were set up for failure. There was much effort to get us to buy in to "the story" and little effort to make it a fun experience. If this had been my first experience, I wouldn't have ever tried again. I cannot recommend this room. read more

I have a particularly affinity for independent escape room companies, as I love to be completely immersed in solving a story-- this company captured my affections. The puzzles in the room were logical and fit well into the theme. There were also a few unique immersive qualities to the room that made it extra special, and gave us a few surprises, which we are still laughing about. This is a large room with a lot of puzzles, so I do recommend completing the room with more than two people if you are determined to escape in time-- we did not escape, but still felt like we had a full and rich experience. I'd also like to recognize the awesome customer service we received, as we had a VERY expired Groupon that the company was no longer acknowledging because they had switched ownership. The company went above and beyond to make sure we had a positive experience and provide appropriate documentation for Groupon, which I appreciate. read more
