Autrefois definitely did not share the crowded, dusty feel most antique shops I've been to -- I can't profess expertise in the area, but the store seemed pared down without being austere. The pieces were all wonderful, and I know that at least some were artfully restored, so well, in fact, that I even asked the owner about the great condition of most of the things, and she was happy to show me exactly where certain pieces were restored (she seemed to indicate that they are sent off for professional restoration). It's worth noting that I didn't see a piece that was obviously restored, and everything had a great patina. As I told her, if I had the money, I would be a frequent patron!

Just sold the place over Labor Day, and the furnishings helped me close the deal. They're the perfect combination of not-too-fancy but add-warmth that I like. You rarely, if ever, see true antiques else where. You usually see older furniture. Furniture without unique quality. The furniture here has the deep rich looking quality that is the sign of a true antique. Prices are high. Yet the prices seem to match the quality and the age of the item. However, they are not totally overpriced as some of the shops we have visited. You know the kind of place that gives you the impression that somehow being dressed in jeans and sneakers does not qualify you as a real shopper. You know the kind of place that seems to have everything priced in the thousands. There are some real hidden treasures here.

I had sadly scratched one of my husband's favorite pieces…read more(oil on board) during our move to Boston and had little hope that it would be salvageable, but a week after dropping it off at Rosine Green, I got it back looking better than when we bought it. They had cleaned the work as well as repairing the damage beautifully -- it's almost impossible to tell where it was scratched. Their work is excellent quality, reasonably priced and the turnaround in my case was way faster than I could have hoped for. And very nice people, as an added plus. I don't know what the problem was with the person whose review on citysearch complains about dirt and mess was - the office is cluttered in the normal way of any antique business but clean and pleasant.

We believe in supporting small, locally owned businesses and it's truly sad that I have to warn others to avoid this business at all cost. Recently, I had to drop off something for a friend's store that is adjacent to this store. The item was heavy and I was asked to do so behind the shop. I parked in a spot that was designated for Frame Gallery Customers. Note it says for customers. I asked my friend to wait in the car with the keys in case he needed to use it. I was only away for 2 minutes when the co-owner (Kohar Allen) of the store blocked my car in on purpose. I get it, she likely has had to deal with people parking there and not coming to her store. But she had no idea if I was a customer or not so her behavior was insane. My friend tried to explain to her the situation and that we leaving right away. She refuses to move her car. I also went into the store and tried to explain and reminded her we had been a customer. She said "I don't care. This is your problem now so deal with it." I actually had to call the police. She lied and said I had threatened her. Luckily my friend was there to witness the entire thing. The police told me after that they have had to deal with her and that she was a difficult, strange person. They made her move the car and informed her that her actions were illegal. They asked if I wanted to press charges but I refrained. I just wanted to leave. I feel so sorry for this sad, hateful woman. She repeated often that she didn't care. She had no initial concern of whether I was a customer or not, which the officer pointed out to her. She is clearly a bitter person, who has no concern for customers or the community. I would highly recommend you take your business elsewhere. We have loved the Framers Workshop in Brookline Village.

We brought photos of the room, the rug, etc...and they were so helpful in choosing a fabric that brightened up the room! Our second recent project was an 1800's Victorian Corner Chair that was in the attic for years. I emailed Barry photos and he emailed right back with suggestions (to not refinish the wood as to keep the original patina) and a quote. We brought in the chair and Toni brought out various samples to choose from. The orignial silk was a teal/blue and she assisted us in finding a beautiful fabric. The chair was polished and looks just gorgeous. This family has the knowledge, the eye and the professionalism you need! And they are very responsive and super friendly. It took more than four weeks and it cost almost $300…read more One of the artworks had the wire on the back incorrectly installed and after five days of hanging on the wall, the frame fell down and was irreparably damaged. I sent an email to The Picture Store with images of what had happened and asked for a refund for the one artwork that was done incorrectly. I left a message a week later and now, after almost two weeks, I still have not heard back. Go someplace where the customers are treated respectfully after the work is finished.
