We have three gas fireplaces in our nine year-old home...gas fireplaces can be a pain in the butt to maintain. We've paid a ridiculous amount of money to other companies and were never pleased with the service. Last year, we finally found a Safe Home. The tech arrived on time and was very personable. He fixed and cleaned all of our fireplaces and we were very pleased. Did it cost a few dollars? Yes...but it was less than what we've paid in the past and the service was better! The past few weeks the logs (which we purchased online) in our outdoor fireplace were not lighting correctly. We had an appointment set at 10:30 a.m. and Jacob arrived EARLY! Fixed our problem quickly and charged us an agreeable fee. Let's face it, gas fireplaces are like hot tubs....they are somewhat of a luxury and we have to pay to keep them up. Based on a very positive friends review...I did use "A Safe Home Gas Fireplace Services."  Family owned...Family Ripped Off. Their service technician was on time, polite, professional and quick. My entire service including replacing the Control Module and installation of a new Remote Control unit and thorough cleaning took only 20 minutes from in the door to out. THAT is great service. What is NOT great service is the fact that their markup on parts is WAY out of line. The exact parts used...if I had known and purchased on Amazon would have been; Control Module - $60 (he charged me $215) Remote Control Unit - $109 (he charged me $375) I understand a 40% to 50% markup...even a 100% for smaller cost parts...but 300% ++ is just greed and maybe additional commission for the installer that said he was one of the owners or part of the owners family. Note: in his defense the remote was purchased because we couldn't move the furniture to give him access to a simple wall switch that he said would have cost me $15. (Which is included with the remote control package from Amazon) Conclusion: If you like all of the good things I have shared about this company...DO use them. IF you don't like the negative comments...and can diagnose the problem and buy the parts yourself...AND they will still install them for the service charge...THEN even I would use them again. With an "L" shaped screwdriver the switch could have been changed out....but he didn't have or produce one....nor did I and even if I could have moved everything it would have taken him MUCH more time. I've been a loyal customer for many years and been happy with the services received... until this year I had a fireplace routine an inspection and cleaning done. During this service, my Fireplace face was damaged ( unintentionally.., I'm sure) The owner did not, nor would not make good on the damage they caused. A refund would have been nice He was very rude, unprofessional and dismissive. So disappointed with the lack of customer care. Especially being a loyal paying customer for years I've recommended this company to others. Had I of known this is how they treat their customers, I would have never recommended them. Lessons learned In discussing the damage they caused with their insurance carrier, I learned, they do not carry the proper insurance coverage when they cause damage to others property. read more

Had them come out and clean and service our gas fireplace. We have lived in the house 7 years and when we moved in it smelled like it had a gas leak. We never used it so no big deal. (gas was turned off) Decided to use it this year. Called these guys to come check it and clean it and make sure it worked correctly. I asked him while he was here if there was a blower on it. He said no and that it didn't need one. (okay what do I know, NOTHING about fireplaces, that's why I called the "experts".) The tech came out and got cleaned & running. Didn't do a great job cleaning it but it worked. A few days later I noticed a very expensive candle that sits on the mantel had melted. I called, spoke to the owner and he told me it was normal for the entire wall from floor to ceiling to get extremely hot and it was not an issue ("Over time the wall may discolor and finish may crack, but no big deal") REALLY!! I asked about having a blower installed he said it would help and that I would need to confirm a plug was in the fireplace or have a electrician come out and install one before he sent a tech out. SO... I did made sure there was a plug & that it worked. Called him back, set an appointment, (I was not able to be there when the tech came out) I get a call... "Guy spent like two minutes, opened the door said there's no plug and left". I said "did you show him the plug? Response, I told him "there is one there" he said "No there isn't" and walked out. read more

When I called to make the appointment I was told that the trip charge + the cost to service the fireplace would be $150. This was already $30 more expensive than another quote I'd been given, but because they were able to come within the week and had family coming to town I was willing to pay that price. When Dylan arrived for the 7:00pm appointment he was clearly very tired and had been making calls since 5am. Within 5 minutes of looking at my fireplace he told me that I had a gas leak and to replace the valve would cost an additional $150. I was pretty appalled that I was already going to be paying $150 for him to drive to my house and dust off the gas logs for 5 minutes (more expensive than an electrician?!) , so called the company to ask about the prices. He said that the travel costs were $60, the work was $90, and the gas valve was another $150. I asked for the manufacturer of the part and when I looked online I found the same part for $90. I told him I had to think about it because this was double what I was expecting to pay for the visit. A few minutes later the man called me back and said he would be willing to knock $30 off the part (what they upcharged) so that Dylan could get on with his night. I begrudgingly agreed but definitely won't be calling this company again unless there is a problem with the valve. The labor seemed way overpriced, and the Dylan was too tired to attend to my questions and concerns. Our outdoor fireplace needed servicing (or so I thought). The company was agreeable to meet at 6:00 am on a Friday (which is why they received 2 stars). Long story short - I only needed a 9-volt battery. Cost? $135 for the house call...I had to supply the battery. I didn't even know a battery existed within the switch panel (I am an idiot). I sent them a check (they didn't take credit cards - I guess they felt they couldn't afford the 2% processing fee) along with a letter urging them to be good human beings and instruct clients to check the battery first (much like the Air Conditioner people generally tell you to check your air filter prior to coming out). My neighbor ironically had the same humiliating and costly experience with them a few months prior. I am willing to pay, and pay handsomely, for quality service. Many other vendors I worked with that same week (broken oven, locksmith) only charged me modestly for their time, but I was glad to pay when an actual service was performed. In neither case did the appliance guy or the locksmith charge more than $45 for the visit. As a result, they have earned a client for life. $135 to change a battery is tantamount to robbery. If they fix something, I will pay gladly, but they were completely unapologetic about their fee. Look elsewhere...I will never use this company again. read more

This was my second service with this company. This second time was NOTHING like the first time-which was awesome. The first time we had Jacob who was professional and friendly. Today I had Colt who was not friendly, not professional and was dismissive when I asked questions. He actually told me "it's just common sense" to a question. Well maybe if your job is fireplaces! Very rude. Also, since my last service the log was not placed in the correct spot so it caused the glass to be cover with black soot. I asked that he make sure it is in the right notch this time, and he said it was. I looked and it was not. He then repeatedly tried to get it in the right spot and then blamed in on the poor quality of the manufacturing. I have had this Fireplace for 6 years. I never had a service until last year and never had this problem before! At the end of the service I told Colt I was not happy with the service, mostly his unprofessional attitude, dismissing my questions and never introducing himself, etc. He just was defensive and told me he fixed the log, if it moves out of place, then I should fix it. When I went to sign the invoice it specifically says do not move logs or warrenty is invalid. I placed a call to Daryl the owner who was no help, suggested Colt was maybe having a bad day and "he doesn't know what happened". Upsetting experience and not worth my time or money. read more

When I called I was told I was never on there schedule by the very same guy I made it with. He then told me I had to wait another 2 months if I wanted to get back on the schedule and made it seem as if it was my fault. I had a great experience with these guys. They were on time an cleaned and repaired a gas fireplace that hasn't been touched since we installed it 13 years ago. The glass was super dirty and it took a long time to ignite. They cleaned it beautifully, installed a new switch, and even added embers which I guess it didn't have. He was done in around 40 mins. Flat fee was explained to me ahead of time and was $150 plus the new switch so total came to $160 and some change. Totally worth it to have a fireplace that works and looks like new. read more

But when the technician came, he let us know that if he serviced them and set the logs up probably for us, they would probably stop causing us problems. positives: friendly and punctual tech Negatives: no price negotiation. If you happen to have an aesthetic model that cannot truly be serviced, be prepared to come out on the short end of the stick. My unit does not have a blower and does not produce heat. Tech cleaned it and advised me to buy insulation to stop the draft of cold air. No problems here. But that's a real expensive 20 minute service call. Labor is $85 for 20 minutes or two hours with no in-between or hourly rate. So as I said, you might end up with the shaft. read more

The service charge is high at $165 per visit and I was charged $245 for a gas valve available on-line for under $80. That said, I understand that you have to pay for quality. We were told 2 years ago that it couldn't be fixed and would be cheaper to buy a new insert- at least $3000! Called Safe Home and they were very nice and professional on the phone. Were on time and friendly. Cleaned out everything and replaced the broken control panel--- it was A LOT cheaper and faster than getting a new insert. Put everything back together and checked for leaks. In and out in less than 20 minutes. Great price and great service. Daryl was very prompt with returning calls and answering questions about service. We set up a service call for 10am and he arrived right on time. Our fireplace gas log system was about 20-25 years old and was not working properly. Daryl inspected it and found out the valve was leaking gas and that the pilot light was broken. We paid A Safe Home $305 to service our fireplaces. Soon after they inspected them, we discovered one of the fireplaces was broken and leaking gas. It's disappointing to pay such a high fee and find that it failed to identify a serious problem that threatened my home and family. We called and asked them to send another technician. Daryl was argumentative and reluctant to send someone other than the original guy who failed to find a serious gas leak. However, Xcel was very helpful. They came out promptly and issued us the notorious red tag that identifies a hazard. Daryl came out afterwards and replaced a leaking control valve. Again we were paid another large bill ($161.58). I would not recommend this company. I hope that others don't experience the poor service that we received. read more

I have had Logan come out from A Safe Home two years running and he has done an excellent job servicing my interior Valor fireplace. He has often corrected little small things to keep the system operational and running smoothly through the winter. I used another company prior to this that really messed up my fireplace during a simple service call -- yanked the fire box out, took the finish off the coals, turned the unit black due to improper placement, etc. -- horrible service. The tech who came out put my family's life at risk. I called to have my gas fireplace unit inspected, since it was slow to light. The tech who came out cleaned the burner and got it started. However, he failed to properly close the glass on the bottom, which left a 1/4 inch opening. We had gas in our home until I discovered this unfortunately sometime later. Life risking! Excellent and efficient service, at a fair price. We had Jacob come out to look at two fireplaces, one of which hadn't been working at all and the other sporadically. He expeditiously identified what was not quite right with each and cleaned up several years' worth of gunk on them. He was respectful of our house, removing his shoes at the door and laying out towels in front of the fireplaces so as not to leave any mess behind. He was also polite and respectful and communicated well what he found and fixed. And he was good to our dog, who will be thrilled to have fully functioning fireplaces this winter. I had "a safe home" technician come to my house when I realize the blower on my home fireplace was not working. The service technician came to my home inspected my fireplace and advised me that the entire fireplace and bricks would need to be replaced to solve the problem (10k). We both agreed that just cleaning the fireplace and not replacing would be the best course of action. Recently I was looking at my fireplace and realized by closer inspection that there were screws holding the blower in the place. Within 30 minutes I had the blower out, I googled the part numbers I found on the blower and had the parts delivered to my house. Fireplace was leaking exhaust into my home...The guy had to come out 3 times and every time he was only here for about 5 minutes and it was something different and was a "quick fix"....After still smelling exhaust in my home I had called a different company that came out and red flagged the unit and said that type of unit should never be in a basement and was against code.....so why didn't A SAFE HOME notice this from the first time they came out..."a safe home" endangered my family and It could have been a trip to the hospital or the grave if I continued to use my fireplace...I'm glad I called (quality fireplace solutions) to get peace of mind. read more
