I've been coming to the salon every month for around 2 years now. My hair stylist's name is Vic, and he's always done a great job with my hair and clearly has a good command of what Styles look good on what head shape and so forth. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Over the course the last few years he has gotten increasingly difficult to book with because he is so popular and has so many clients at this point. However he always makes time for me and I really appreciate that.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]One thing that's important to note is that this is a primarily Mandarin speaking business and I have to speak Mandarin with the majority of the workers here, but they do have English speaking stylists as well.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They're also seems to be some other hairstyles who rent a chair here and only come here occasionally, but the full-time staff is all Mandarin speaking. Overall the salon itself is quite modern and chic, and there's always good music playing here. Highly recommend if you are Asian and looking for a Asian hair eccentric salon, which can be pretty hard to come by outside of the Southern California area. read more

I booked for a layered haircut (which at the time was $105). [[HIGHLIGHT]]He was overall very nice and the appointment was overall fine. He provided some tips and taught me how to style my hair which I appreciated.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The layered cut that I got was not a layered cut I'm used to. I won't deny there were layers but I'm used to having a V-shaped/U-shaped layered cut. After a few days I noticed the back was very ... blunt and "straight" . Additionally, my "sideburn" pieces were extremely uneven. All the stylists I've been to in the past have pulled the hair to the front to ensure evenness, Jay did not. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I had left a review on his Booksy page with a photo which he responded and suggested hair can shift at home but this has nothing to do with hair shifting.. he did offer to refine it but Irvine is quite a drive for me and I figured it just wasn't worth it.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Also.. the pricing is just WILD. He is now charging $155 for a layered cut with blowout. There are other stylists in the industry who charge WAY less for what you're getting (I know of at least one off the top of my head who has 20+ years of experience and only charges $95 for a haircut+blowout). read more

Originally for Jay but the time didn't work out and the person assured me they have other hairstylist that is also as capable.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I did not believe at first but needed a haircut so I said okay. I came to fix my hair for my birthday. I wanted a golden light brown ended up dark brown hair which was not what I asked for. I have been a client at A+ Salon since November 2024. I found Vic (one of their hair stylists) through Red Note. During my most recent visit, I received highlights, which took approximately 6-7 hours due to my dark hair. The results were stunning, and I was absolutely thrilled with my new hair color (please see the before and after photos). Vic is not only incredibly friendly but also highly knowledgeable. He has been working as a hairstylist for many years. I provided him with a photo of the hair color I desired, and he took the time to explain how my hair would look with various highlight styles. My wife started coming to A+ Salon to get her hair cut about a year or so ago, she said that they also have services here for men, after seeing her get her trim from A+ I figured what the hell they're close by why not give it a try. Normally I would drive all the way from Irvine to Garden Grove to go to my regular place, but that was a good part of my morning wasted going back and forth through traffic. I decided to schedule an appointment with A+ for a haircut for my son and I on the same day, they were able to fit us in on a weekend which was great as my work schedule has been extremely busy so I appreciated they were able to work us in at a convenient time that worked for me. Once there I described what kind of haircut I wanted to Vic, and also pulled a picture from a previous haircut, he was able to cut it the way I want for me and my boy. They were able to cut a nice fade which I truly liked, and make minor adjustments along the way until I was satisfied. The Salon itself is very spacious, brightly lit, and most importantly clean. There are also these really cool statue things around that gave it a nice vibe. Make sure to say hi to the owner if you drop in, my wife introduced him to me, saying that he's always around and he's an extremely friendly gentleman. read more

I have been going to this salon for a while. I originally found them through the Chinese app Xiao Hong Shu, and the salon owner used to do my color every month. However, he became very busy and often answered phone calls during my appointment. He would also switch people two or three times while doing my color, which I really didn't like. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I prefer to stay with one person who understands my hair and color history.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Because of this, I decided to switch to Will. The first time with Will was okay, the second time was fine, but the third visit was terrible. I went for a root touch-up, and he recommended a $120 scalp treatment. I agreed to try it if he could do it well, but it turned out to be a bad experience. He brought out a machine but didn't know how to use it--someone else had to help him start it. He only worked for a few minutes, mostly touching my hair instead of my scalp, so I asked him to stop. When I asked if he had done scalp treatments before, he said he didn't really have much experience with scalp treatments. That made me very uncomfortable, especially since he was charging extra for it. He also seemed more interested in selling expensive services than focusing on doing a good job. On top of that, the towel he used on my head smelled terrible. When I asked him why, he said they washed towels last night but maybe they didn't dry completely. That's not acceptable for a professional salon. I also saw another stylist finish with a customer and hang a used cape (coat) on a clean area. When I asked if they wash the cape after each client, he didn't answer clearly. Overall, it was a very disappointing experience. The hygiene and service quality made me feel uncomfortable, and I won't be returning. read more

I had my hair dyed six months ago. The stylist carefully applied the dye twice. The color was even and I loved it! 1000/10 request Jay all day every day. I hadn't changed my hair in 10+ years because I just didn't know what to do with it. I went to Jay not expecting anything and ended up with an immaculate transformation it's like when you go to get your hair done and all your life nothing ever looks great and you just settle. I came in for a perm and a haircut to which when I saw Jays instagram I thought very highly of their work which was well represented in their social media. Jay was very nice and very hospitable throughout the process. So here comes the not so great part, I had an appointment that started 15-20 minutes late with no apology or acknowledgment. By the time we got started, it already felt rushed--especially towards the end, when other clients were being helped during what was still supposed to be my appointment time. After the perm, Jay barely even cut my hair, which is very important after perming to make it look nice and takes a lot of time. However, I was still charged 50$ for a haircut that I felt i didn't even receive. I went to another barber for help and they even said that the stylist did not cut my hair at all and just trimmed my sides. They even noted that Jay curled my one section of my hair the wrong way and how he pretty much just permed my hair and charged me for a haircut. Unfortunately I made the mistake of not speaking up immediately because it was clear there wasn't time left to address anything properly and other clientele were showing up and being attended too. I also made the mistake of assuming that Jay had already cut my hair and this was just the process but ultimately I left feeling really ugly about myself and my cut. If I spend 230$ (150$ for perm, 50$ for a haircut, and 30$ for tip) I could just hope that the stylist will have me leaving feeling really great about myself. I sat in my car post treatment feeling really bad about myself and insecure to the point that I had to go to another person to help fix my hair since I have a very important event in my life this weekend. When I followed up afterward, I was told no refund would be given since I didn't raise concerns during the appointment--despite the obvious scheduling issues, being rushed and the lack of hair that was actually cut. I asked for a refund for only the haircut portion of the treatment since I felt that my hair was not even cut at all and just trimmed at the ear. Jay barely touched my bangs or any hair at the top of my head and didn't even try to blend any of it. There was hair sticking from the sides of my head which just looked really messy and felt incomplete because there was so much volume left on my head. I did ask that a video of the appointment not be posted, and while they did agree to delete it, the overall lack of accountability was disappointing and saddening. From the picture, you can see the post perm and "cut", the reference photo to which the hair is lying flat, If you are looking for a perm, please ensure that it is with a stylist who respects your time and communicates proactively, I'd consider looking elsewhere. ---------- In reply to the comment, the photo of my hair after the barber cut it was NOT what I wanted at all, I had to cut my hair off because of how bad the perm was done. The curls were going in the complete wrong direction as you can see in the pictures and do not look anything like the reference photo. I grew out my hair for 6 months and wanted a wolfcut type perm, and because it was so severely off from the photo I had to make the hard decision to cut my hair off because it did not look great. I know stylists work very hard as I am an artist myself. Because I am an artist and designer I know my work must always be 100% and something that I am confident in. The lack of accountability from the stylist and the pushing of all the blame on the customer is quite astounding to say the least. You can make the judgement yourself from the reference photo to my hair and see who was clearly in the wrong. Again I could not believe the stylist would shift the blame to the customer once again after seeing the comparison to my hair and the reference. Please ensure you're choosing the right person for your hair who is going to give you 100% and not cut you short and expect you to say nothing. read more
