I wasn't able to get a perm appt at the other nearby hair salons within a week, but the owners here sent me a nice text message offering availability. It has been a super easy experience to book, change and confirm appointments. Anna did a great job with the trim, perm and styling, working tirelessly and attentively for 3 hours. She also gave creative input and was collaborative about my suggestions. After I left, I was complimented by others for how natural it looked. I went back to her for the deep conditioning treatment and will again for the scalp treatment, a de-stressing treat that I'm looking forward to. The equipment they use are cutting-edge, and I've see great outcomes for coloring too - really liked rose gold on short straight hair. Anna and Mark are not only talented and skilled, but also dedicated and humble. They are great parents to two young children, which is very relatable for a new parent like me. Establishing a world-class practice that survived the pandemic was no small feat. Could be because I'm not a regular. Could even be culturally (But I have my personal reason why I was ignored). M&J 798 is a great hair salon. My friend highly recommended this place to me a few times. Finally I decided to give it a try. Once I walked in the studio, the clean and fashion decoration attracted me. The assistant was great. She gave me a scalp massage when shampooing my hair. M&J's owner, Mark, was much more friendly than I thought. I have to say Mark is a very talented hair stylist. I told him several ideas and details about what I wanted, and he did a very good job that met all my requirements. I was very satisfied. BTW, I drove 45 minutes to get to Irvine. I got a full head tint in MJ798 by Mark. I used to have highlights and lowlights but I didn't do touch up for a while which made my hair looks a bit "nasty". This is a hip, modern place and I got my hair cut by Mark, who is very artistic and technically knowledgeable in dealing with ladies hair. I hadn't gotten a haircut in over a year, and came to my appointment wanting more shape and layers for my medium length hair. What was fantastic was Mark was able to understand the look I was going for - based on how I told him how I care for my hair. This was a novelty for me because he was able to cut and style it to my active lifestyle- daily wash, no blowdry, minimal hair product. Essentially wash and done. After it was cut, he would eyeball the style and make detailed cuts. He then blow dried my hair - special occasion I do blowdry - and made it look classy. He then showed me a style if I wanted to wear my hair back - in a layered braid. Super cool. Mark took the time to show different ways to wear the hair and how to style it if you need to be out the door quickly. Most other times, I've left places liking my new cut and then the next day, it fell flat. Not with this place! Because I learned how to style it the way I wanted, and the way Mark cut it - the next several days I still loved the way it looked! Quality cuts and style here, definitely recommend! read more

I have had haircuts all over the world, from the best salons in Paris to South Korea, to right here in Beverly Hills. I would say Mark is the best combo of talented and kind. I would usually get very talented and very unkind or very kind and very talented. Mark is both. He took time to look at 85 photos of hairstyles I liked, recommended the ones that would look best for my face shape, and did such a meticulous job cutting, perming and styling my hair. He has given me great tips on how to take good care of my hair and to look as amazing as some of his A-List celebrities who fly out from all over the world to see him.
