I wanted a color correction done here but was met with attitude from the stylist for not scheduling a consultation first and being overcharged for an all over color. Honestly, that was on me. My fault for not scheduling that. I wanted to do an all over color and correct the 3 different colors I had on my hair. the stylist told me that was not possible in the time that we had so she decided to just do the all over color. what was not told to me during the service was that i'd be charged DOUBLE what I scheduled because of "the amount of hair" i had. I originally booked the service for $110 all over color and was charged $220.. the color was blotchy and only stayed vibrant for a few washes. you could still see the different colors i was trying to correct UNDER the dye. would not recommend this place. read more

My first haircut I had was with Mickey, who did a good job. I came back 6 months later and got Daniela. She cut my hair dry and did not wash or style it, which was surprising to me given the price of the service ($80). I decided to give her the benefit of the doubt and washed and styled my hair myself when I got home before making judgements. Then I was able to see clearly how bad the haircut looks. I have wavy/curly hair and asked for layers to add volume. The layers are choppy and uneven. I normally don't leave bad reviews but my hair is very important to me. Now I feel self-conscious wearing it natural because of how bad it looks from the back. Overall, I would not recommend booking an appointment with Daniela. I am sorry to say this because she was a nice woman but the haircut was bad. You may have better luck with other stylists, or maybe if you have straight hair. read more

Stephanie was awesome and helped me go from blah, damaged, one-length pandemic hair to adorable trendy curtain bangs with a 70s twist. She even got out the tiktok-famous Dyson Airwrap which gave me fabulous loose curls. Couldn't have asked for more or better! I also appreciated the focus on covid safety here. Almost everyone was wearing (K)N95s and if not that, those disposable medical masks. The stations are spaced well and I didn't feel crowded next to other folks, which I've definitely felt at other salons (and that's what's kept me from a proper haircut for almost 2 years). Will be back when my new bangs need a trim! Appointment-making online was a breeze and the cost (~$70 before tip) was pretty much what I expected for a kinda higher-end salon. read more

Ok so I ended up here because legit, Yvette is the most amazing person with cool blondes. I used to go to her at edit and she moved down here. After several fails of trying to get someone in my neighborhood to take her place, I succumbed to driving to Pilsen for my color. I absolutely HATE it...however, Yvette is the BEST. If you are wanting cool blonde, she's your girl. Trust me. We laugh every time I see her because I was very honest with her saying that I didn't want to commute to get my hair done...but she does such an amazing job. And once you are used to it being damn near perfect, it's hard to go back to just above average. This last time, I was in desperate need of a cut when Yvette was coloring my hair. Alas, Michelle stepped into my life. Michelle gave me the best haircut I've had in several years. No joke. I haven't loved anyone since Chase at Edit but when he moved to the north, I didn't follow him. I've been bouncing around trying to find someone that I liked... My cut is absolutely amazing. I have stringy, tangly, thin hair. Michelle cut it and now I have body, bounce, vibrancy. Seriously, hard to tell because it's been so long since I've had such an amazing cut but it might be my best cut ever. And so now I'm officially pissed off because this almost seals the deal that I'm going to have to commute to Pilsen to get my hair done...which I despise, HAHA! ;) And the salon is super cute and there's nothing wrong with it...I just hate to have to drive to get my hair done. I came here the other day because my regular hairdresser was packed till the end of the month, I wanted something quicker so I had booked an appointment with Yvette. I was under the impression that she knew what I wanted however that wasn't the case. When coming to the consultation I showed her a picture of exactly what I wanted and she said it would be under a "full balayage". I came in for my actual appointment and she was just coloring my roots and blended them to my already faded out blonde color. She didn't not dye my whole head a "full balayage" just partial (my roots) did not touch anything else. How is she going to scam me and charge me 230 for not even a fully completed work. I wish i stuck up for myself and refused to pay that amount for half ass work. Won't be coming here ever again! read more

Love the location, decor, vibe and stylists here. I had my first cut at a.salon with Julieanne in December '19 and she did a great job. She listened to what I wanted, what I hadn't liked at my previous salon and gave me a great bob! She also didn't try pushing any products on me, which was very much appreciated. I mentioned possibly wanting color in the near future, so she also grabbed Jade and introduced us. I came back in February for a partial balayage with Jade. Jade was also very cool, pleasant and easy to talk to. She looked at a few of my inspirational photos and got to work. I walked out with added dimension and my hair styled like I do it at home. An added bonus for this salon is that it's in my neighborhood -- I love supporting local and getting as many services as possible close to home! I'll definitely keep coming back. I visited for the first time maybe 7 months back because of the good reviews on yelp. The staff was very nice and welcoming. I had a good experience during the cut; however, when I left I realized my haircut was completely choppy and uneven. I had asked for layers but there was nothing nice about the "layers" I received. My right side was completely shorter than my left. Many friends noticed the uneven haircut and wondered why I tried a new salon. I thought a nice wash would maybe lessen how choppy and unfinished my haircut looked, but it did not. Overall, I am disappointed with my visit to a.salon and will not be visiting again. read more

I have always found it difficult to find someone who knows how to cut my type of hair, so this was just another disappointment. I have thick, curly, and frizzy hair and I can't tell you the times I've had people mess up my hair. After I saw that a. salon has curly cuts and good reviews, I was excited to try something new. The salon itself is beautiful and loved how it's designed. Michelle asked me what I was looking for and I told her I loved my curls but that sometimes it gets too puffy and annoying. She said she would help distribute that puffiness around by doing layers so it's not just in one area. At first, she just cut ALL of my layered hair evenly and asked me if that's what I was looking for (after we had discussed I DID NOT want too much volume). I said I wanted layers so she added just a few layers, which were barely noticeable so I said I wanted more. My hair ended up looking too bottom-heavy and boxed/squared, but I decided to just wait until I got home to shower and style it the way I usually do, but I ended up feeling pretty sad, regretting this haircut. I am not a hairstylist and I know it depends per person, but if you want less volume/puffiness and want to give curls some movement, you need to do more layers. I was disappointed that even though I said I wanted less volume/puffiness I ended up having more. I do not think that the haircut was worth the price, so I will not be going back. I wish I had the experience other customers had where they loved their haircut and would return back, but I will continue looking for that stylist who can handle my hair. For those with curly hair like mine who are looking to manage the volume/puffiness, I DO NOT RECOMMEND. read more

I made an appointment for my grandmother for color in April 2021, unfortunately Yvette wasn't available for that day so I scheduled it with Monica. I been coming here since June 2020 for color with Yvette. She does a good job and she is very kind. Every time I have gone I've gotten my hair done I've gotten great service from the whole staff. This time that I brought my grandmother she didn't received the same service unfortunately. Since I walked in I noticed they had a new receptionist girl, she was very rude. I told her my grandmother had an appointment and she said oh ok it's going to be this much and I told oh ok that's fine. But then she asked if I wanted to leave a tip and I said sure but once the service is completed and she said I had to pay first then get the service which I was confused because from all the times I have gone there I have never been charged right away and asked to leave a tip before the service. So I told her I will leave the tip once the service was completed and then she said ok well it's this much. I asked her if that was new policy to pay first and she said no that it's always been like that and again I have been here since June 2020 and they have never charged me first and demanded I leave a tip before service. I just payed for it and I was told to sit down and wait. While I was waiting I was watching the people that were coming in and they were not getting charged first so I was confused why the girl only charged me. Once they called in my grandmother I went to my car to wait for the my grandmother. My husband had an appointment like a few minutes after my grandmother, when he went to check in for his appointment they didn't make him pay first or asked to leave a tip before the service. I don't understand why she charged me right away. He texted me when my grandmother was ready so I can go inside to pick her up. When I walked in I left Monica her tip. I looked at my grandmother and I could tell she wasn't happy. So when we walked out I asked her if she liked her hair and she said no. She said she felt like Monica was just rushing her out, the water was just to cold for her, her blouse was wet, her hair color looked the same and she didn't style her hair. Monica only blow dried her hair, my grandmother wanted her to curl her hair. I told her why didn't she say anything and she said she just wanted to leave because she felt like she was just rushing her. And she said that she kept telling her you should call your daughter to come in and pay because I'm almost done and my grandmother told her she payed already. My grandmother said she felt like they thought I wasn't going to pay them so that's why they didn't give her a good service. I wanted my grandmother to come out feeling beautiful and happy but it was the complete opposite. I did call to talk to the owner but at the time she was with a client, I did talk to someone else and they told me to come back but my grandmother didn't want to because she didn't feel comfortable going back. read more

I can't recommend this salon enough! The staff is super welcoming, they use ammonia- and PPD-free products, recycle over 90% of their waste, and their equipment: Dyson dryers! a fancy processing heater that kinda looks like a space helmet! It's easy to book an appointment online and I even got a delicious complimentary churro while waiting for my color (a beautiful dusty pink) to process. I've been seeing Yvette Bentley since I moved to Chicago over 10 years ago. She's taken me through every color of the rainbow - purple, pink, blond, red, brunette and back again. Under her care, my hair has never once looked over-processed or felt fried and I've never regretted a color decision. Yvette always takes the time to understand what kind of color I'm going for, give me options or alternatives, and help me understand the process. Did you know pastels fade a lot faster than regular colors?! Like many other reviewers here, I followed her from another salon (two actually) and when I found out she was moving to a new salon six miles away in Pilsen (hey, that's far for the city!) I may have cried a little bit. Nonetheless I put on my big girl pants and followed her to 18th street. After my awesome first visit (and a fantastic hair wash and blow dry by Jade), I'm excited to come back and have a reason to eat my way through the neighborhood!
